A design company recently created an innovative lighting scheme to enhance the lines and stretch across the Sölvesborg Bridge. Most bridges are rather plain looking and serve a functional purpose. Sölvesborg Bridge in Sweden is different. The pedestrian crossing, said to be one of the longest in Europe spans 2480 feet, and is considered a major landmark in the local area. With high, thick arches, cables and streamlined rails, it recently got a little makeover thanks to a design firm. The company created an innovative lighting scheme to enhance the lines and stretch across the bridge. LED fixtures were utilized to enhance the suspension cables and arches. The lights then reflect off the underlying water’s surface. The LEDs are programmable in several different colors for various seasons throughout the year. The surrounding plants and beauty served as the inspiration for the lighting installation. The LED display was made to fit right in with the nearby properties while enhancing the flora and fauna in a very subtle way. The design firm used glare shields on the lights to ensure the glow wasn’t too strong or vibrant against the natural surrounding landscape. What do you think of the bridge’s LED upgrade?
