Matthew McConaughey will be honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. The Dallas Buyers Club star will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award, which is given to an actor and actress each year, during the 25th annual event, which is slated to run from Jan. 3-14. McConaughey will accept his accolade at the Jan. 4 awards gala, hosted by Mary Hart. Sundance Selects has acquired North American rights to Run & Jump , an unconventional Irish love story that is the feature debut of Oscar-nominated short film director Steph Green. Will Forte stars in the film as a buttoned-up American researcher who travels to Ireland to study a man who has suffered a stroke which has transformed his personality. Thor: The Dark World is off and spinning-and headed for a big box-office weekend. The Chris Hemsworth-led sequel, featuring Natalie Portman, grossed an estimated $7.1 million in Thursday-night previews and Friday-midnight screenings, its studio reported. Overseas, where it opened last week, it upped its international haul to $158.2 million. Domestically, the movie is outpacing its franchise-starter, 2011's Thor, which got off to a $3.2 million midnight start, and its Marvel bullpen partner, Captain America: The First Avenger, also from 2011, which kicked off with $4 million in the preview frame. James Cameron will be the recipient of the Motion Picture Sound Editors' Filmmaker award at the 61st Golden Reel Festival. MPSE president Frank Morrone said "James has always pushed technology forward to new heights to fulfill his creative vision,"
