Shoes Reveal Our Personalities - as part of the news series by GeoBeats. How much attention do you pay to someone's shoes?Psychologists at the University of Kansas conducted a study that had students look at pictures of shoes and evaluate the owner of the shoe’s age, gender, and social status including political affiliation and emotional stability among other personality traits. Participants took pictures of the shoes they wear most often and filled out a personality questionnaire. The evaluations were surprisingly accurate, with about 90 percent of the student’s answers reflecting the results of the questionnaires. Most of the findings were not surprising, with more expensive shoes belonging to high earners, and extroverted personalities owning brightly colored shoes. But some evaluations were off, including the plain and boring shoes belonging to people who claimed to have trouble forming lasting relationships. The study report says, “Shoes convey a thin but useful slice of information about their wearers.” So next time you pick out which pair of shoes to wear, remember that they might actually be telling other people a lot more about you than you might think. What shoes do you have on right now?
