The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa had yesterday said that it’s imperative that enough measures that are necessary to allay the people’s fears over the Nuclear Power Project at Kundakulam are undertaken before any precipitous action is embarked upon.

In a letter to the Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Jayalalithaa had said she was amazed to see in the media that at a joint press conference with the Russian President he had announced that the KKNPP would be “operationalised in a couple of weeks.”

The Chief Minister had recalled that following the State cabinet’s resolution that any further work should be stopped until the fears of the local people were cleared and after the presentation of a memoranda to Dr. Manmohan Singh by a commission led by the Finance Minister, the Central Government had formed an expert committee to interact with the nominees represented by the local people to explain the position of safety aspects.

she said that, “The State Government is facilitating the interaction through local officials. The satisfaction of the people of the area is of paramount importance to my government and the State of Tamil Nadu,”.
