The B J P (Bharatiya Janata Party) had organised a dharna at Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday against the Union government’s decision to allow 51 % FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in multi brand retail, if the F D I is approved by the central government it would allow big chains such as WalMart and Tesco to enter into our Indian market, which will surely affect the Indian retailers.

One of the senior BJP leader Mr. O. Rajagopal was inaugurating the dharna in front of General Post Office at thiruvananthapuram, said that giving green signal for the MNC’s in the country would put the livelihood of about 4 million small traders and the retailers in a bad spot and interrupt the economy of our country.

Mr. O. Rajagopal said that small retailers, like the farmers in our country, would have no other choice except to commit suicide if the government allowed FDI in the retail sector.

Mr. Rajagopal said that, “The government should make it clear why it is permitting FDI even when the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce has opposed the move twice. Even UPA allies such as the Trinamool Congress and the DMK are against allowing FDI in retail,”.
