The new socket (and the new X79 chipset) will support 2nd Generation Core i7 processors, aka Sandy Bridge-E. These CPUs are based on the same 32nm manufacturing process as the popular 1155 socket Sandy Bridge CPUs, but feature additional cores, native PCI-E Gen. 3, and a big performance bump over Nehalem (socket 1366) and Sandy Bridge (socket 1155) procs.
