In following Christ, we must learn to go against the fashions of the times. This was one of the major themes of Pope Benedict XVI's address to the bishops of Angola and Sao Tomé, who are here in Rome on their ad limina visits. Among the major areas of witness and commitment to the local Church, Benedict XVI cited the family and the indissolubility of marriage, fidelity to the Christian faith and baptism and the need to reject ancestral practices that are incompatible with the faith. Finally, referring to the upcoming trip to Benin, in November, the Pope stressed that the contribution which the Church can bring to the African people is the announcement of the full Gospel of Christ.
