During the general audience this Wednesday Pope Benedict expressed his profound sadness at the episodes of violence that took place in Cairo last Sunday. He said "I share the suffering of the families of the victims and of all the Egyptian people, lacerated by attempts to undermine peaceful coexistence among their communities, a coexistence which it is vital to safeguard, especially in this moment of transition".
