The Left parties aren’t having any objection to the West Bengal government’s proposal to change the name of the State, said the Left Front Committee chairman and Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary Mr. Biman Bose on yesterday. The new name of the state is yet to be decided.

He told the journalists after a meeting of the Left Front that “There is no question of opposing the decision of this government. The proposal was mooted and initiated by the Left Front,”.Discussions regarding the renaming had been taken up during the term of the 5th Left Front government and all the documents and preparations were been made, but expostulations were raised by some individuals, said Mr. Biman Bose. The issue was taken up by the 6th Left Front government.

Observing that the name of the West Bengal came up last in national level discussions, Mr. Bose said that since Bangladesh, formerly Purba Bangla, had been renamed and there wasn’t any need to retain the name as ‘West Bengal’.
