A political agreement should be developed for having power projects that are eco-friendly as well, said Union Minister of State for Power Mr. K.C. Venugopal.

The Union Minister was interacting with the media on the sidelines of the national consultative workshop for the readiness of vision document and strategical plan of the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies at Kochi on Friday.

Mr. K.C. Venugopal, however, had refused to comment on the Union Minister Mr. Jairam Ramesh’s comment that the Athirapally hydel project was a closed chapter, adding that the State can only progress with the commissioning of ecologically-friendly power projects. He also rejected any move to privatise the power sector, saying that the Government of Kerala was only asked to proceed with the formalities to convert the KSEB (Kerala State Electricity Board) to a company as demanded by the Central Law.
