Started videoblogging in 2004
Why? I started videoblogging on January 1, 2004 because I wanted to figure out how to put video on a blog.

  • Steve Garfield's Video Blog

I never realized you actually started blogging on that first of January, I always assumed you'd done some before.. That was like the first vlog, no?

I was blogging since 1997, and blogging on blogger since 2000, 2004 I added video.

back when... if i googled stuff like videoblog i only got a few results and they were Adrian Miles.
but then yeah, as a little more time passed, i started seeing more results and Jay Dedman and Steve Garfield were in their. Innocent times. I kinda miss it :)

Yeah, there's nothing like those golden days of innocence. Back when everything is so new and there's so much potential. Now there's somewhere between 7000 and 10000 video blogs and video podcasts. Plus all that craziness on services like youtube. It's all tainted. I'm drowing in creative muck. :)

That's funny I remember Googling the terms "videoblog" and "vlog" back in early 2004 too because I had just taken a Final Cut Pro class and thought that a blog would be a good way to share some of the stuff that I made for the class. The only real result I got then was Steve Garfield. But I didn't really start vlogging myself untill about a year later.

I only got into videoblogging in like April 2004 or something, and Steve's was pretty much the only blog out there...

Anne turned me on to videoblogging, showing me ryanne and jay's, verdi's. I had been personal blogging for little more than a year before getting into videoblogging in the summer of 2005

    Ahh... reminicscinin in... :)

    I switched on my RSS 2.0 w/enclosure feed back on December 18, 2004. http://mmeiser.com/blog/2004/12/mmeiser-blog-is-now-podcasting.html

Still the very one. Sadly, or happily my feed nor blog design has been updated sense. I'm still a perpetual 29 in vloglandia. :)

    LOL.

It's hard to believe it hasn't even been two years.

I'd bet a beer that I'm one of the first 10 videobloggers to have an RSS 2.0 feed with w/enclosures.

Maybe even the first one. Ooooh...

Steve, I think you may have been one of the few to beat me, what day did you enable your RSS 2.0/feed, with enclosures?

    I want proof!

LOL. Yeap... I had to go there. :)

What is this Wikipedia lite with source requirements. Please no!!!

My first Video podcast post with RSS 2.0 feed was on 11/14/2004

    http://stevegarfield.blogs.com/videopodcast/2004/11/videopodcast_20.html

i set up a new TypePad blog to test it out and it's still there.

    http://stevegarfield.blogs.com/videopodcast/

I also wrote about it on my blog:

"Up until now, the downloads have all been audio enclosures from people like Adam Curry and Dawn and Drew.

But today, for the first time, I've downloaded a podcast specifically made to be viewed!

I had to make one, since no one that I know of is sending out video podcasts.

Everything seems to be coming together at this moment in time to enable us to easily share video.

The cool thing about this method, is that you don't have to sit there and wait for the video to download. iPodderX downloads the content when I'm not looking, and it's there for me consume whenever I want."

    Ahh... memories.

And you're user nr. 33 of mefeedia, which must mean you joined somewhere in December 2004 (which is when we started).

    mmeiserpod says: (2 years ago)

Ha! Wow... Steve, you had me on the RSS 2.0 feed by a whole month. That's impressive. So very few people had thought of sending video via RSS 2.0... I wonder who else was in on it that early.

What I love is seeing my sepeculation about what it "was". I didn't call it a "videoblog", but I did suggest that it might be considered a "video podcast" and several other names like "video cast" and "ip broadcasting". Keep in mind that even in December 2004 there weren't even any "video aggregators" yet. Fireant wouldn't be out until January. Don't know when Mefeedia got started. Though I think it says around here somewhere.

    Check out my stated goals.

1 create a richer and more enjoyable experience for those who read this blog

2 elevate and create a richer debate

3 inspire others to blog and/or podcast

4 encourage the development of more specialized software to progress podcasting

5 contribute in some small way shape or form to the democratizing of broadcast media which have been traditionally been accessible only by the few and the privileged. It's time broadcast media become a ubiquitous part of the mass communications ecosystem.

    Good stuff

As of January 1st I think there were still only 10 video blogs with subscribeable feeds. No sense in it with no aggregators yet.
