See more work and writing at www.laurenkalman.com BIO Lauren Kalman was born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Lauren completed her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Art, from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, with a focus in metalsmithing, from Massachusetts College of Arts in Boston. Her professional experience includes employment at the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. She has a strong interest in education, which has lead her to teach at several nonprofit centers including the Indian Church Village Artisan Center in Indian Church, Belize. Currently Lauren lives and works in Nashville, TN where she is visiting faculty at Watkins College of Art and Design in the Visual Arts Department. Lauren hopes to one day used her art to affect social thought. By creating objects of adornment that are unconventional in their application to the body she questions traditional values. In making her work she has become more aware of the values she ascribes to her own body and the objects used to adorn it. Through her work, she hopes to communicate alternative thinking about material worth, social custom, and the body.
