Nieuws en actualiteiten. -Benazir Bhutto bij aanslag gedood. De Pakistaanse ex-premier en huidig oppositieleidster Benazir Bhutto is vandaag om het leven gekomen. Dat hebben verscheidene Pakistaanse media gemeld. Ze bezweek aan verwondingen na een zelfmoordaanslag, zo berichtte Geo-TV. Bronnen bij het ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken hebben haar dood bevestigd. Bhutto woonde een partijbijeenkomst bij toen de aanslag plaatsvond. Verscheidene woordvoerders hebben gemeld dat ze is overleden als gevolg van een of meer schotwonden in haar nek en gezicht. De dader zou eerst hebben geschoten en zichzelf daarna hebben opgeblazen. Bij de aanslag zouden zeker twintig mensen zijn gedood. De populaire politica was tegenstander van president Pervez Musharraf. Ze wilde meedoen aan de parlementsverkiezingen op 8 januari. Nieuws en actualiteiten. Vanavond: Steeds meer Ritalin-gebruikers, maar werkt het? Steeds meer Nederlandse kinderen gebruiken medicijnen terwijl ze niet ziek zijn. Ruim tien jaar geleden ging het nog om enkele tienduizenden kinderen, maar de stijging gaat zo snel dat nu al een half miljoen kinderen aan de pil is. Al deze kinderen slikken Ritalin of een vergelijkbaar medicijn. Het is geen onschuldig pilletje, het bevat amfetamine, en wordt gezien als een opiaat. Het wordt voorgeschreven aan kinderen met ADHD, dat wil zeggen kinderen die druk zijn en zich slecht kunnen concentreren. ADHD kan niet via lichamelijk onderzoek worden vastgesteld, Artsen stellen de diagnose als ouders en onderwijzers zeggen dat een kind extreem druk en ongeconcentreerd is. Nu al heeft 7 procent van de leerlingen van een basisschool het stempel ADHD. Is hier sprake van een hype? We spraken met kritische artsen en logeerden op een boerderij voor ADHD-kinderen.
