The motley crew of shutterbugs traded technical tips and showed off their gear, taking pictures all the while. Anuenue Playground from hawaii on Vimeo. The cool, green town of Waimea (a.k.a. Kamuela) is home to what could be Hawaii's best playground. Anuenue Playground, an incredible wooden wonderland, was built and is maintained by the entire community. It's a must-visit stop as we pass through on our way from Hilo to Kapa'au. Given the subject matter, there's a lot of shaky handheld camera work here (including an ill-advised trip down a slide), which doesn't necessarily mix with the HD widescreen format. Kohala Jodo Mission from hawaii on Vimeo. One of the key stops on our regular pilgrimages to the Big Island is a drive out to Kapa'au, ancestral home of my mother's side of the family, to visit the graves of my maternal grandparents at the Kohala Jodo Mission. Near the very northern tip of Hawaii, tucked away on a hill behind the original King Kamehameha statue, this small temple is the epitome of peace and serenity. Cast: hawaii

It's a gray, chilly day and the beach is mostly empty, but hardcore surfers are still out on the waves. I'm still getting used to the camera and the editing software (Final Cut Express 4), but I'm liking it. Cast: hawaii

Posted for Videoblogging Week 2006. Inspired by yesterday's vlog by Roxanne of Beach Walks with Rox, I head down to Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park. Magic Island is a popular park for locals and visitors alike, with wide open spaces, lots of shade, placid waters, and a great view of Waikiki and Diamond Head. This week, though, the park has been taken over for the Honolulu Centennial Celebration, rescheduled to this weekend after recent heavy rains and flooding postponed just about everything in Hawaii. As crews set up for the festivities, a few people enjoy the park, and several Japanese couples take their Hawaii wedding photos. Enjoy, but don't go in the water. Extra special thanks to Wilfred N and the Grown Men for providing the music for today's video.
