E' anche possibile modificare o implementarne delle altre funzionalit con i Marcatori Tag template in grado di agire sulle funzioni native di WordPress. Dalla versione 2.3 si sono aggiunte quelle che gestiscono i Tag e una Photogallery propria interna al Blog. ============= I TAG CLOUD Prima nell'analizzare un semplice post abbiamo visto sotto i primi righi di anteprima dell'articolo una serie di parole chiavi associate, si tratta di tag. Con l'avvento del Web 2.0 e del Web sociale i tag, letteralmente "etichette", sono diventati via via sempre pi importanti per l'identificazione e l'organizzazione dei contenuti, anche se oggi blogger autorevoli come Taglierbe li considerano gi superati. http://www.blogolanda.it/2008/05/ Ad esempio del post titolato "Haarlem, la capitale della contea d Olanda" sono disponibili i tag "case tipiche", "chiese" e "haarlem" (quelle con le iniziali maiuscole corrispondono anche ai nomi delle Categorie) Nell'architettura dell'informazione, i tag rispetto alle categorie limitate da una classificazione monodimensionale consentono ai visitatori di rintracciare le informazioni in modo poliedrico secondo un sistema a faccetta e quindi da pi angolazioni. Ciascuno di noi cerca in modo diverso, in base a proprie esigenze, a seconda di cosa cerca, degli obiettivi e del contesto. E' per questo motivo che l'individuazione dell'informazione deve essere garantito da un accesso secondo pi sentieri. Ad esempio la Categoria "Amsterdam" riporta tutti gli articoli che hanno per argomento prevalente la citt Amsterdam, quindi eventi, curiosit , fatti accaduti e particolarit ma solo ed esclusivamente della capitale olandese. Se volessi individuare nella stessa categoria l'articolo dal titolo "Le Statue di Cera al Madame Tussaud di Amsterdam" non riuscirei a trovarlo perch ho ritenuto per questo post pi attinente la categoria "Attrazioni". "Amsterdam", questa volta inteso come tag, risolve brillantemente il problema perch comunque il click alla relativa etichetta consentir il reperimento di questa informazione. Se volessimo conoscere le "case tipiche" di Amsterdam possiamo cliccare sul relativo tag dal post titolato "Haarlem, la capitale della contea d Olanda". In questo modo potremmo conoscere le "case tipiche" di entrambe le citt e in futuro di altre olandesi. Stesso discorso per le "chiese" e altri tag che possiamo trovare nei tag cloud. Uno dei sistemi infatti per visualizzare in modo ordinato una lista di tag consiste nella "tag cloud", una distribuzione a "nuvola" in cui le dimensioni di ogni elemento variano a seconda della quantit di contenuti catalogati. Ad esempio il tag Amsterdam che il pi rilevante ne ha al momento tredici. Il nostro Blog dipender solo dal buon funzionamento del CMS che avremo scelto e dal mantenimento dello spazio virtuale che avremo affittato presso un hosting di fiducia. Come primo effetto questo si traduce subito in una url, ossia un indirizzo internet del nostro blog, tutto nostro. e quindi del tipo http://www.nomeblog.it e non http://nomeblog.provider.it ossia in concreto come ho fatto io: http://www.blogolanda.it/ e non http://blogolanda.wordpress.com/ WordPress infatti fornisce entrambi le soluzioni. wordpress.com quella preconfezionata, wordpress.org quella indipendente - saremo quindi liberi di pubblicare i contenuti che vogliamo e i diritti degli stessi saranno solo nostri - in caso di problemi di hosting averemo il diritto di rompere le scatole a chi ci fornisce lo spazio virtuale e ricevere un'adeguata assistenza - in caso di malfunzionamento tecnico non dobbiamo aspettare i comodi del provider e potremo mettere direttamente mano al sistema per risolvere il problema - possiamo scegliere e avere maggiori strumenti dal lato amministrativo che ci consentiranno di avere una maggiore personalizzazione della veste grafica del nostro blog e di offrire ai nostri lettori maggiori funzionalit e quindi una maggiore fruibilit , accessibilit e interattivit ai nostri contenuti Ma tutte queste libert hanno un rovescio della medaglia. Il Blog non avr la stessa visibilit non potendo usufruire della popolarit del provider e della comunity che fruisce dei suoi servizi ma anche vero che un dominio proprio ha pi chance di essere indicizzato e quello che far la differenza saranno la quantit e qualit dei contenuti che saranno pubblicati nel tempo L'hosting non gratuito e lo spazio dove memorizzare testi, immagini e video perch possano essere fruibili nel web non teoricamente infinito. Idem per la banda di connessione il cui valore stabilito inizialmente per contratto potrebbe esaurirsi nel caso di una massiccia affluenza di visitatori. Per carit , tutto si pu fare ma occorre pagare e in misura sempre maggiore rispetto a quelle che sono e saranno le esigenze del nostro blog. Inoltre occorre saper installare, aggiornare e personalizzare il software del CMS prescelto e questo non facilissimo per chi non ha adeguate conoscenze. Io non sono un Geek, tanto meno un professionista del settore ma ho voluto affrontare questa sfida per essere completamente indipendente dal mio provider e provare la soddisfazione di esserci finalmente riuscito. Dopo 2 anni e mezzo di repentini malfunzionamenti, impossibilit di intervenire anche con scomparsa permanente di articoli e immagini, dovevo avere a tutti i costi un blog tutto mio e indipendente. Indipendente da qualsiasi provider per non rischiare di ritornare ad avere gli stessi problemi dopo tanto lavoro. Indipendenza anche per non sottostare ad alcuna regola imposta ed essere assieme ai miei lettori l'unico titolare dei contenuti di un nuovo Blog che di li a poco si sarebbe venuto a creare. L'unica alternativa valida era utilizzare un CMS indipendente tipo WordPress.org. Certo occorrevano conoscenze informatiche maggiori di quelle che ancora non ho ma questo non mi fatto perdere il gusto di provare questa sfida e ottenere dopo la soddisfazione di esserci finalmente riuscito. Il CMS WordPress, consente di esportare ed importare tutti i contenuti con un semplice click. La piattaforma di Dada, una sorta di CMS preconfenzionato con una serie di limiti anche dal lato amministrativo no. Ecco che ho dovuto raccogliere 450 post pubblicati in due anni e mezzo, escludendo dai totali 542 quelli fuori tempo e che non potevano pi essere riutilizzati o quelli che trattavano di come si era sviluppata e diffusa la vecchia versione del blog http://www.blogolanda.it/ Certo un lavoraccio ma tuttavia l'impegnativa opera di revisione e consultazione mi ha consentito di - individuare e organizzare tutte le foto raccolte negli anni - raccogliere i contatti di potenziali intessati al nuovo Blog - sulla base dell'esperienza pregressa impostare meglio i tag per evitare inutili duplicazioni dando maggiori rilevanza a quelli che (secondo me) sono pi conosciuti. Ad esempio il nuovo tag "Religione" raggruppa adesso i tag che nella vecchia versione per temi molto simili erano: "preghiera", "bibbia", "cristianit ", "campane", "sacerdoti"). Dopo una prima elaborazione li ho ordinati alfabeticamente per gruppo di etichette simili in termini pi generici e complessivi. Lo Scopo, come ho detto prima evitare ridondanze e pi termini per lo stesso significato ma ho dovuto mediare con alcuni cercando di equilibrare al meglio i termini pi importanti. Ecco come mi sono allora organizzato. Ho eseguito con una -- Prima cernita: l'eliminazione di tutti quei post che non potevano essere pi riutilizzati (Dicono di BlogOlanda) -- Seconda cernita: ho associato ai post rimanenti una Categoria e 6 temi raggruppando cos per tag articolo uguali o simili pubblicati in momenti e/o categorie differenti -- Terza cernita: per Data Eventi (ad esempio far capitare il 30 Aprile la pubblicazione di un articolo che parla del Giorno della Regina) http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVnrnuA http://www.google.com/calendar/render?cid=guidaolanda%40gmail.com Per ordinare e distribuire bene tutti i 450 interventi ho inserito in un calendario reso pubblico dal 1 Settembre 2008 al 28 Dicembre 2009 tutti i post per giorni dispari (Lunedi, Mercoledi e Venerdi) Da Met Febbraio, fino a Maggio, ho spammato gli interventi del vecchio blog in tutti i giorni dato che si tratta di un periodo con una presunta maggiore affluenza di visitatori. Almeno questo dicono le statistiche delle mie 3 risorse documentate in un anno. Quindi per differenza, nello spazio intermedio dei giorni pari Martedi e Giovedi (ed eventualmente anche di Sabato e Domenica) ho lasciato la possibilit di inserire altri argomenti per poter parlare delle novit ed eventi importanti del momento anche da parte di quei visitatori che intendono scrivere per BlogOlanda.it. Per Ultimo -- un ordinamento per data di pubblicazione. Sto infatti inserendo nel nuovo blog e programmando volta per volta, avanzando giorno dopo giorno, tutti gli interventi che verranno pubblicati in futuro. Al momento, dello spostamento degli articoli selezionati del vecchio BlogOlanda mi manca ancora il 30% e il 90% di foto da sistemare negli album esterni e interno. Del 70% spostato, ho rielaborato e programmato in pubblicazione solo il 10%. Per la Photogallery mi sono dovuto rivolgere a dei sistemi esterni di storage e sharing. Le foto sono troppe e al momento ho problemi di spazio sull'host. Certo chi trova le foto tramite i motori di ricerca arriva ai servizi esterni e non al blog. I m still reeling and processing all the exciting events associated with WordCamp 2008 in San Francisco. Saturday was packed with so many of the best speakers - the best of the best in blogging, SEO, WordPress, PHP, Theme and Plugin development - it was blogging and WordPress overload. Today s conferences and events are true definitions of information overload and blogs and social media play important roles in the over-abundance of input. They are also part of the new online social networking surge, allowing attendees to share their experience of the event with the world through various media and social networks. While attending the conference and afterward, there was so much information being shared on different services - it was difficult to keep up. Many were live blogging the WordCamp event on their blogs while others were using Twitter, Tumblr, and other microblog services to share the event. Many were also discussing the event on Twitter, Pounce, Plurk, and other social services. It used to be that event coordinators would put most of their energies into the event specifics, corrdinating speakers, attendees, social functions, and logistics. Today s events must also prepare and monitor the online world to help coordinate and track discussions, news, and feedback before, during, and after the event. Mark Jaquith has published the list which includes the US Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Goard, the Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of State, Department of Treasury, DEA, FBI, CIA, SNA, and more. Matt s point was that if they are using it, WordPress must be doing something write with security - especially with these security concious agencies helping the WordPress community. WordPress 2.6.1 Released: WordPress 2.6.1 has been released. They cleaned up the problems with the right-to-left languages and fixed over 60 things needing fixing. Ajay of Techtites has released a WordPress 2.6 to 2.6.1 Upgrade File to make the process of updating your blog easier. Ozh Offers the First WordPress Plugin API for the Admin Drop Down Menu WordPress Plugin: Planet Ozh updated the popular Admin Drop Down Menu WordPress Plugin with localization, fun icons, and an API that will allow others to hook into the Plugin with their Plugins. This is the first time a Plugin has had its own API that I know of. Think of the possibilities! Sticky Posts in the Future: Lester Chan reports that WordPress 2.7 will incorporate a simplified version of his popular WP-Sticky WordPress Plugin into the core of WordPress, allowing users to stick a post to the front page of their blog. We've always tried to keep a sense of humor about ourselves at Six Apart, and not take our work or ourselves too seriously. Last week, when we released the widely-acclaimed Movable Type Pro, we included a short video that explained some of the exciting ideas behind MT Pro. We weren't exactly trying to show the full list of the new features in the video, but we definitely set ourselves up on this one these things always tend to focus more on telling a story than on getting into technical details. We focus on the story for a simple reason: It's not about features, it's about the future. Honestly, we assume that that everyone else on the web will respond by copying great ideas, as they usually do. Hell, we want them to, so that more people can benefit from open communities on the web. Movable Type's had really great social networking features for more than a year, and MT Pro puts them in everyone's hands. So we're glad to see our friends at Automattic follow our lead by planning to provide some of these abilities for WordPress in a collection of plugins that you should be able to assemble around Christmastime or so. Until then, they've created a parody of our video. We think that's a pretty funny way to respond, too! So we thought we'd share their parody of our video: Of course, the joke in the video is that MT Pro's big feature is comments. LOL! So true, so true, we totally have comments! And lots more. You can view our original video, but one great thing the parody does is promote an MT Pro feature that we'd omitted you can definitely get full social networking features on your own site, without having your it look like another Facebook or MySpace clone. (We'll even help you design it.)Because maybe it's a little idealistic, but we think communities on the web can be freed from having to live within the constraints of someone else's social network where they have no control. It's just like how blogging freed people from having to use complicated publishing systems that they couldn't control. Or freed all of us from only consuming media that was produced by giant corporations, instead of by the friends, family or peers we know and respect. Blogs are good at breaking down barriers. We think it's time for blogging to evolve and assume that successful communities will consist of dozens or even thousands of blogs, forums, and individuals, all connecting together in an open way. And we don't just talk about it: We invent what needs to be created, release it to as many people as possible, and try to do the best job we can of telling people the story of how the web is going to look in the future. MT is great at all kinds of other unique abilities, of course, like managing an unlimited number of blogs and aggregating content across them. Or managing forums. Letting your members and commenters create their own profiles and follow each other. Rating and recommending content. Providing free and open source TypePad AntiSpam for blocking junk comments, instead of a proprietary centralized service from Automattic. Support for cutting-edge tech like OpenID 2.0 and OAuth. Exclusive new themes like Mid-Century. Our long-held reputation for publishing highly scalable, "Digg-proof" pages. And comments! Don't forget comments. [Note: To be fair, it is possible to remedy some of the missing features in WordPress if you have enough free time to find the appropriate plugins. However, prominent independent security researchers do warn, "[T]he abysmal security practices of WordPress plugin developers places the entire Internet at risk". That's on top of WordPress being one of top ten least secure applications around, and the Department of Homeland Security's data showing WordPress having twelve times as many reported security vulnerabilities as Movable Type. Quick, time for more parody videos!]But all of the features in Movable Type Pro are in service of something bigger.
