Beenie Man Biography Set For July Release | The News is NowPublic.com Beenie Man Biography Set For July Release by reggaewire | June 10, 2008 at 09:17 pm The sensational new book on the life of dancehall king Beenie Man has finally been scheduled for worldwide release this summer. The forthcoming biography, Who Am I? The Untold Story of Beenie Man, will treat fans of dancehall music to more than four hundred pages of intrigue, eye-opening revelations and never-before-seen colour photographs depicting the young superstar s life. Who Am I? The Untold Story of Beenie Man is the world s first-ever dancehall biography, and is being published by Jamaican publishers Great House OmniMedia in time for Reggae Sumfest. Written by noted Jamaican journalist Milton Wray, the story tracks the twists and turns of Beenie Man s dramatic life, following in great detail the reggae superstar s rise from childhood to the Grammy Award, numerous other honours and musical firsts, including an unequalled string of chart-topping hits. The author worked on the project for more than eleven years, documenting Beenie Man s tabloid-rich life and career as they unfolded. After first contacting the artiste in 1994, Wray eventually took a sabbatical from Jamaican journalism to live and do research in New York City for more than a year. While in the United States, he conducted interviews and collected vast amounts of information on Beenie Man and his international impact on the music business. While writing the book in Jamaica, Wray did in-depth research by interviewing a host of persons including relatives, friends, associates, music business personnel, rivals and, of course, the girlfriends of the reggae/dancehall icon. Readers who might be concerned about not getting the full story of Beenie Man have no reason to worry, says the author, who promises an unvarnished view of The Doctor. Who Am I? is a journalistic work, Wray insists, and the primary objective is to be accurate. While Beenie Man did cooperate by supplying information and photographs for the publication of the book, he did not have approval of the manuscript, and never saw a page of it before it was completed. The intention was not to put out a public relations piece for the artiste. The facts are presented as they occurred, whether or not Beenie Man likes those facts. He has led a very controversial life, and he acknowledges that; he recently told me as much. I believe he is prepared for whatever revelations may come from this book. It s going to be very exciting once it hits the streets, Wray continued, commenting on the completion of the work. Who Am I? is something that readers will not be able to put down, because Beenie Man has had such an amazing life from his childhood in Waterhouse to the present day that it s going to be mind-blowing. The book is as engrossing as any novel only everything in it is factual. Set to be launched in Kingston in early July, the book will be distributed in North America, the European Union, the CARICOM region and Japan before the end of the year. For its Asian release, Who Am I? will be translated into Japanese. According to Great House s Michael Grant, who began conducting preliminary promotions and answering reader s queries at the recent Calabash Literary Festival, Interest in the Beenie Man Biography is already high for something that has not yet been advertised or offered for sale. Readers are going to be surprised by the touching humanity and detail of this true story about Beenie Man, both as a person and as an international phenomenon. In many ways, it s also a mini-history of dancehall, giving insight into the inner workings of the local music industry in much the same way the Jamaican hit movie, The Harder They Come, did in the 1970s. Commenting on the secrecy behind the production of the highly anticipated work, Grant said Because some of the details in the book have never been publicly revealed previously, it was important for the author to be able to work without giving advance interviews. After all, some of the events in the story were unfolding as he worked, and he managed to get the story behind many of the stories we often read in the press, especially about his private life. As one can imagine, the controversies surrounding Beenie Man have made almost every page of Who Am I? top-secret. His fans can t wait to get their hands on this very well-researched and well-written account the first of several volumes, probably of a spectacular life and career still in progress. Reviewer s copies of the book have been sent to a select number of entertainment press in markets where the book will be available. Local distribution will be handled mainly by Novelty Trading Company, while the bulk of North American and European markets will be serviced by A Copyright 2008 BadGalsRadio - RootsRock since 99'. The Boston Massicka - The Riddim Juggler Tosses it to Mama ASID From our first faithful meeting on the TCOOO Blog ; Massicka has been Forthright, Honest and a genuine delight to share an exchange with. This week we go to the Youth Man Posse to tell us how they feel about This Generation and Reggae Music . Several pods ago we ran two episodes with Bob Andy. When DJ Mass heard the interviews he wrote me and immediately requested equal time for a rebuttal. This is that Rebuttal, also in two parts. this is part one; with part deux coming during January 2008. Dj Mass says that Confusion about the youth and young musicians; has led to the splintering of the dancehall. Mass Reveals how Bob Andy turned down royalties for use of his sample in the Massicker Hit Ackee in my Salt Fish . This tune will be released in spring 2008; on a Going Home Riddim compilation - by MusicalAmbassador Label (MAMG). Mass tells us what he s working on; and what he predicts will buss the scene, fresh in 08 . When asked his opinion on the Beenie Man; Movado Star Complex he really shows us his strength and breaks it down. Massicka sites examples of bad character being adopted and why the minds of reggae lovers globally are being negatively reprogrammed - causing dances like the Drop Dead to become phenomena amongst the youth. When asked about this negative dancehall tradition of violence from the stage and the crowd; DJ Mass said this - Dancehall don t beat people down, people hold people down Massicka is a Real Warrior for The Roots and Culture; and when he puts out the battle cry, all will listen. The harmonies we enjoy bring us back to a place we remember as Foundation Sound . DJ Massicka is a part of the Vibrant Viral Soundsystem ; based in Boston. being a student - he is often seen spinning in and around Boston. Mass. We suggest You check him out in action on Myspace; because The Brotha Has Something To Say. as Well We invite you to check out TCOOO s Blog on MySpace - technorati calls TCOOO THE Black Blog on Myspace and In Blackspace ; and Blogtress The Fabulously Gorgeous Ms. Gigi James author of I Didn t Sign Up for This ; all a big part of the Massicka Foundation. Duty forecaster at the Meteorological Services, Evon Thompson, said yesterday: "The system is on a track towards Jamaica and does not appear to be shifting. All interests in Jamaica need to be at the highest level of preparedness, as it is actually heading in our general direction." #39;Dean#39;, the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, was at 4 p.m. yesterday, moving west at 17 miles an hour, and a general movement toward the west and north west was expected over the next 24 hours, according to the Miami-based centre. Jamaica, a country of 4,411 square miles, is 146 miles long and 51 miles wide and with the country in the path of Dean, a directhit is highly possible. Yesterday, the Meteorological Services of Jamaica issued a hurricane warning for the country. Conditions associated with a hurricane watch include dangerously high waters, and or exceptionally high waves. Small-craft operators have been encouraged to remain in safe harbour until all warning messages have been lifted and sea and wind conditions have returned to normal. Dean hit the Eastern Caribbean islands of St. Lucia and Martinique earlier Friday. In Dominica, a woman and her seven-year-old son were killed when a rain-soaked hill gave way and destroyed their house. In St. Lucia, a 62-year-old man was the storm#39;s first casualty, drowning in a swollen river as he tried to retrieve his cow. As the country braces for the hurricane, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has urged all Jamaicans to unite in the face of this adver

What’s summer in NYC without sitting in LIE traffic during prime beach hours, wondering why the hell you didn’t get an earlier start? After a day collecting jokes from rich people we couldn’t get a room anywhere and ended up driving back to Manhattan in the middle of the night, crashing at Mocha’s apartment, our dreams of waking up to a Long Island Sound sunrise smothered by a crappy aerobed.

Internet radio compromise on the way?Internet radio compromise on the way?

Download ASID Says NO To WEBPayola PiratesInternet radio compromise on the way? Posted by Anne Broache It's looking ever less likely that Congress or the courts will act swiftly enough to save Webcasters from the doomsday that they argue will result from imminent new fees. But there are signs that Internet radio players and a group representing artists and record labels may be moving closer to a detente. A few weeks ago, we reported that the increased royalty rates set to kick in July 15 were poised to create a burden not only for small major Webcasters but for the largest ones as well. Because the fee hikes also include a $500 minimum payment per "channel," the three largest Webcasters alone--Yahoo, RealNetworks and Pandora--said they would owe more than $1 billion in the first year alone because of the thousands of unique "channels" their services offer. Now, with the deadline for the fees creeping ever closer and the outcry from Webcasters still at a fever pitch, relief may be on the way. SoundExchange, the nonprofit industry group that lobbied for the changes, told CNET News.com on Thursday--and finalized in a press release (PDF) on Friday--that it has offered the Digital Media Association (DiMA), which counts the major Webcasters among its membership, a $2,500 cap on that annual requirement. "We certainly don't want anybody to get unduly hurt by the minimum fee, but there is a value to music and a cost to administering the digital royalty program, and we wanted to ensure that everyone was treated fairly--artists, webcasters and record labels," John Simson, the organization's executive director, said in a statement. According to DiMA executive director Jonathan Potter, however, there was a catch that wasn't mentioned in SoundExchange's press release. Namely, SoundExchange presented a written offer to apply that reprieve only through 2008, whereas the new U.S. Copyright Royalty Board rates extend through 2010. "Any offer that doesn't cover the full term is simply a stay of execution for Internet radio," Potter said in a statement released Friday afternoon. Indicating that SoundExchange's public statement caught him by surprise, he added that he would have preferred not to be issuing such a statement at all and to be continuing negotiations directly with the music industry group. SoundExchange has already attempted to extend an olive branch to smaller Webcasters that claim the new rules will wipe them off the map. In late May, it floated an offer to freeze through 2010 the "below-market" rates they have been paying since 1998. But SaveNetRadio, a group lobbying against the changes, has argued the approach could stunt the long-term growth of smaller firms if it is based on keeping revenue below certain government-imposed caps. Update at 6:45 a.m. PST: SaveNetRadio spokesman Jake Ward said Monday that the group was encouraged by SoundExchange's recognition that the per-channel payment could be crippling to many Webcasters. He said the ideal solution, however, would be to base the royalty rates on a Webcaster's revenues, as two congressional bills propose--and not, as the copyright officials decided, on the number of songs played and listeners.

What would provoke anyone to behave in this manner, in the dancehall ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? When Violent Music causes Violent Attacks on Selectors it's time to Stop Playing It. We separate the wheat from the chaff in this one on one with Alex Frass of HardRokk SoundSystem - from Portmore, New Kingston. it seems our attention is again drawn to the Kartel Camp. anytime a selector gets attacked it's bad news - but when a selector is attacked because he's not playing what the artist's entourage wants to hear - then it's gone too far. In the old days, Men knew that a Dance was a time for enjoyment; where people gathered to let their hair down and relax to the rhythms of their favorite soundsystem. These days going to a dance is like entering an armed encampment; complete with miniature diamond dusted 25's worn as medallions - and gals with razor laced extentions in their multi colored up-do's. no one seems to come to dance and enjoy the party. but to see what the latest controversy will be at the end of the "night or fight"; whichever comes first. so if you entertain the idea that going to a dance is for a goodtime, let us enlighten you with this report straight from the selector's stand. We've reached out to Kartel with our Love Letter earlier; in hopes of offering him some sage counsel and honest advice. as of yet he's not responded . Through Our Portmore sources - we do know however that Kartel has heard this show, and quite possibly our love letter. so in our estimation it's just a matter of time, before he comes forward to tell his side of the story; and enlighten us all as to why he's turned into a "cheerleader for murder". "Love is the only solution", as we've been told by Jah Cure; So we want to open the door to Kartel to reach a peaceful end to this terror tirade; before anymore blood is spilled in the dancehall. Selectors come to Select - DJ's come to Chat. lets leave it that way. and with that, we give you "Truth Nah Run..and Rights nah Fear". if you happen to be in Jamaica and hear the advertisement for HardRokk Sound; make sure you check them out. Alex Frass has decided to return to Foundation Sound - which means a goodtime will be had by all; in a shotta-less zone. Support Foundation Sound and Return to Peace and Rights Reggae Today.

One876Entertainment.com gained a copy of the CD, which contains snippets of the what appeared to be the voice of the deejay in a heated conversation with a female featuring samples of at least three dancehall songs including the intro to Kartels Nuh Badda Try on the Tremor rhythm and Lady Saws If The Man Lef. The CD begins with the Lady Saw song just before the voice of Peaches barks in anger: Dutty, stinking, suck p---y Bounty Killer, weh yuh a call me phone fah? Download Blood On The Sand..for oil in your tank - The Choppers Mix it Down to Reality Casablanca youth fight radicalism with rap By Mark TrevelyanMon Apr 30, 12:11 PM ET Six suicide blasts in Morocco's biggest city have sparked fears of more al Qaeda-linked bombings to come, but they provided an unlikely inspiration for a streetwise young rap musician. Sitting in the cramped back room of a Casablanca apartment, his friends beating out the rhythm on their hands and chests, Younes Samih launches into his latest song, "Today's War." Policemen search for suspects during a raid in Casablanca April 14, 2007 file photo. Six suicide blasts in Morocco's biggest city have sparked fears of more al Qaeda-linked bombings to come, "What do you want -- to make blood and tears flow? Have you found no other way out except to blow yourself up?" the 23-year-old pours out in a quickfire torrent of Arabic. "Come with us and think about it. Don't let yourself be poisoned. If you die by blowing yourself up, where will you leave your heart?" Since March 11, six bombers have died after detonating suicide belts in incidents that wounded more than 20 people in Casablanca but killed only one other person, a police officer. In the latest and most spectacular, two brothers blew themselves up on April 14 outside the U.S. consulate. Despite the low death toll, the events have rattled locals and revived memories of al Qaeda-linked attacks in the city in 2003 when a dozen suicide bombers struck simultaneously, killing 45 people including themselves. The government said last week it was pouring an extra 2,000 police into the city. "This isn't over. This is a new beginning," says Mohamed Darif, a Moroccan analyst on Islamist movements who sees the recent blasts as part of a wider al Qaeda resurgence in North Africa. CITY OF CONTRASTS Why has the violence here focused on Casablanca? "Casablanca is a little Morocco. All the contradictions of Moroccan society, you find in Casablanca -- political left and right, Islamists of all colors, poverty and wealth," Darif says of the city of 4-5 million, one of the largest in Africa. Driving out from the center of Morocco's economic capital, with its wide boulevards and squares shaded by palm trees, a visitor quickly starts to notice those contrasts. Large tower blocks loom at the side of the highway, then the first shantytowns come into view. At first sight, the vast slum of Sidi Moumen looks like an earthquake zone, a chaotic jumble of brick and corrugated iron, low-slung walls and roofs. Perhaps a third of a million people live, sometimes 10 to a room, in the now notorious neighborhoods where several of the latest suicide bombers, as well as those of 2003, had their homes. Incongruously, many of the shacks have satellite dishes. Curious to meet a visitor, children wave and local men crowd round. They are friendly but the prevailing mood is despair. "Miseria (misery)," one man says over and over in Spanish. "There are no jobs, there's no money," says a 22-year-old man named Youssef. "That's the bathroom," he adds, laughing, pointing to a communal tap in a dusty open space strewn with rubbish and frequented by the odd cow, sheep or hen. "No one works. They sleep till 11 o'clock or midday," says Hassan, an older man with gappy, decayed teeth. Do people here fear more violence? "You never know. You have to be ready for anything." YOUTH NETWORK Across town, on a sunny weekend afternoon, there is a brighter mood in the Sbata neighborhood where a youth network is holding a street meeting to encourage youngsters to register and vote in parliamentary elections later this year. Among members of the network, Reseau Maillage, there is a universal rejection of the suicide bombers and a fear they have tainted the country's image. "We're all practicing Muslims but we don't recognize that kind of Islam. We don't know where these people are coming from, disturbing our lives," s
