II Corinthians 7:1-10; Mark 1:29-35

CHICKS, HOES, SLUTS, AND ALL KINDS OF DISRESPECT "I love her to death...!" "I love him to death...!" REALLY NOW! How many bad relationships hold together by threads with the term "..but I love him / her.." as it's only solid thread? When that love gets sick and is marred by control and abuse by either side, the entire dynamic of love can become dangerous, indeed. In the USA , the law tends to err on the side of caution - statutes are written that any sign of physical abuse enable the police or sheriff to arrest the aggravating party - and like the relationships themselves, the law is abused and the system burdened by members in relationships who subsequently feel remorse after the fact, and fail to follow through - hoping on hope that it would be "the last time" and that "Johnny/Jenny learned his/her lesson..." But the cycle rarely ends - and sometimes it does end, tragically. I hope Clarence (Tree) Allen has found a way to deal with the demons he will spend the rest of his life with. No life should stand for nothing, and for 6 months prior to his shooting and killing his girlfriend, I had an opportunity to get to know him, and understand some of what made this 6'6 300lb giant tick. He had spent the better part of 20 yrs in prison, working most of his life on the wrong side of the law as an enforcer - protecting drug dealers, and living a violent life, all too glamorized by Hollywood, MTV and the Bling Bling generation - but violence is violence, and when it is intertwined in your character, it will affect all relationships, right down to the ones you love. Just add alcohol or drugs and the right circumstance, the wrong word, a provocative gesture - who knows; but the fuse to an explosion can have disastrous consequences, as no doubt, Clarence and Yolanda found out. The fallout are two children who will never know either parent as most children do, and seeds of resentment, anger, insecurity and a host of other self defeating emotions are born to the cycle all over again. The victims of violence are many. There is help available, though it rarely will come looking to seek you out. When caught in an abusive relationship, you must first get out of it as soon as possible. It rarely gets better by itself. Today's world has become such a maelstrom of misinformation, disinformation, confusion, mixed signals and anonymous sociability, people have a hard enough time making the good relationships work. Don't let the term "...love you to death" become reality.
