Cui Jian is known as the godfather of Chinese rock music whose song Nothing to My Name became the unofficial anthem of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. The 47-year-old rock singer says he is backing the Olympics but will remain true to the spirit of rock-and-roll. He tells Al Jazeera that making trouble is the job of a rock-and-roll star. Nine vibrant young people have formed the group, "Bella Vocè Africa" (Beautiful Voices of Africa). All members of the group originate from Shoshanguve and Hammanskraal and still resides there. This group has a unique style of singing. From the basis of classical training, they have put together different musical products. Description of musical style: New classical mix, such as Carmen mix, Neapolitan songs and own compositions. Beautiful classical tones, with mixed "house" beat, influences of Kwaito and traditional rhythms and harmony. A truly excellent African product. Well known tunes such as "O sole mio", "Funniculi" and "La Spagnola" are presented in a creative new arrangement. The group regularly performs with well known South African tenor, Kevin Leo. They have performed at several arts festivals, such as Cultivaria and Innibos. Bella Vocè Africa also performs with Top 10 Pop Idols Finalist, Rian Swanepoel. Sylvia Blangwe, one of Bella Vocè Africa's sopranos, performed at a private function with 1000 invited guests at Mr Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday Celebration held in Cape Town on 18 July 2008. Amongst the guests at the function were Oprah Winfrey, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Minister Tokyo Sexwale and other high profile delegates. Sylvia performed several solos during this performance. Bella Vocè Africa has also performed for the ANC President, Mr Jacob Zuma.
