Schmutzie - BlogHer 2008 Keynote Speakers
from Out On The Stoop July 24, 2008
This is Schmutzie from Schmutzie's Milk Money or Not, Here I Come. She had a journey to get to the keynote stage in San Francisco. You can read about it at her post on leaving a small town to come to to the convention. This is the Windows Video version. This is the traditional QuickTime version. This is an Audio mp3 recording. She did a great job. There are all kinds of journeys. Some voluntary and sometimes you have to be dragged kicking and screaming to go down certain roads. It really is how you handle the trip. Take a lesson from Schmutzie.

Xacti HD1000 Green MP4 Fix
from Ryanne's Video Blog July 23, 2008
Do you use a Sanyo Xacti HD1000 camera? Have you seen the green mp4 of death? Not sure why? Well, my friend Mary Matthews of Videopancakes.com also had this problem recently and she pointed me to this Apple discussion thread to help her decipher the solution. Seems that the QuickTime H264 component that came with your Xacti software worked great with your camera, but then again QuickTime gets updated by Apple every few months and that little bit of software that makes your HD files actually work gets replaced. Huge bummer if you want to, oh um, use your footage. I sat down with Mary and helped her reinstate this little component and I thought I'd make a screencast walking through it so others could fix their systems too. There are some other solutions on that Apple thread if this doesn't work, but I hope it does. Good Luck! p.s. if you right click and save this video... you can watch it at 640x480, a bit easier to see.

Doug French - BlogHer 2008 Community Keynote Speakers
from Out On The Stoop July 23, 2008
Doug's blog is Laid Off Dad and this is a slice of his life trying to inspire his son. Inspiration is a tricky thing and it might take a bit of time for his son to really understand. I sat in the audience with envy. I don't have that kind of "dad" parenting experience in my life. This is the Windows Video version. This is the traditional QuickTime version. This is an Audio mp3 version. I can sat back and wondered is that what a good father does each and every day? The good and the bad and the ability to see the humor in it all.

disobedience
from the miscellaneous mischievous misadventures of missbhavens July 09, 2008
Quicktime | iPod | Flash I ve been sitting on this footage long enough. When we were on vacation in Istanbul last Winter the majority of our evenings were spent in our cute little hotel room shooting the breeze and enjoying a light (second) dinner of cheese, wine and halvah. Me, my Mom and her BFF Sally together on a grand international adventure (a good deal of which was spent in our cute hotel room enjoying wine, cheese etc). I ve shot and posted family fun before, but sometime between then and now my Mom decided she didn t want to be featured on the blog any more. She never really explained why no matter how many times I asked. I guess it s just too strange to her too personal. For me, it s different. The more personal the better. We didn t take family movies when I was young, so to me capturing these moments is like a special gift. I get to keep them forever, living them again and again as I choose. Granted, I don t re-watch 85% of the videos that I post. But this one? This one falls into that remaining 15%. I ve watched it ten times in the last hour already. It s special to me, and it s mine. Sorry, Mom. I had to do it. I couldn t help it. I think it s just too dear to keep to myself.

SPJ Citizen Journalism Academy - Publishing Truth
from Out On The Stoop July 07, 2008
One of the SPJ-CJA sessions of the day concerned media law. I will be honest and say I am very interested in this topic; you got the Associated Press nonsense, you have Viacom lusting after user information and lord knows what will jump up next week. This is the Windows Media Video Version This is the QuickTime Video Version This is the iPod Video Version What of the content creators? What rights do we have? This is a brief video clip of Professor Gary C. Williams talking about our rights to print/published factual information. There is one exception. If the information involves matters of national security then no, that is not an automatic gimme. I will add more reference links but for now if you need more information about the law, bloggers and the nature of your rights please visit the Electronic Freedom Foundation's page Legal Guide for Bloggers Added July 6, 2008 The Knight Citizen News Network has a legal information module to help bloggers/vloggers understand legal risk. It is heating up folks, protect yourself.
