Hunting for the shadows of distant solar system bodies
from YouTube :: Videos by newscientistvideo October 03, 2008
Read more: http://space.newscientist.com/article/dn14858?DCMP=youtube Some objects in the distant ring of icy bodies called the Kuiper Belt are too small to observe by the sunlight they reflect. So astronomers are looking for their shadows. They monitor thousands of stars simultaneously in the hopes that one will be dimmed by the passing of an intervening small Kuiper Belt Object. The KBO transit event would last less than a second, and as this animation shows, any detection would be dependent on the star, KBO, and telescopes being perfectly aligned (Courtesy of National Central University, Taiwan) Author: newscientistvideo Keywords: kuiper belt space transit Added: October 3, 2008

from The Star-Ledger on TVJersey August 26, 2008
Thirty retired MTA subway cars were sunk off the coast of Cape May on Monday to help create the nation's most extensive artificial reef system.
