PHOTO via NY Times The NY Giants won against the Greenbay Packers. The score after heading into overtime was 23 to 20. The Giants showed some great skills and deserve credit for winning the game. But everyone in New York must give credit where it is due and remember to thank pop star Jessica Simpson. The New Year has just begun, but things aren't going too well for Jessica. She has already made history for her boxoffice dud Blonde Ambition which averaged only $50 dollars a day. The film opened theatrically on eight Texas screens which means only 6 people went to see it. She was named on Mr. Blackwell's 10 Worst Dressed List. And now the whole state of Texas thinks she's a jinx and blames her for causing boyfriend Tony Romo's Dallas Cowboys to lose their big playoff game. News spread about Tony Romo's vacation getaway he took with girlfriend Jessica Simpson before his big game against the NY Giants. And once pictures surfaced from their rendezvous Cowboy fans who believed in the curse were worried that they would lose their important playoff games. Gambling and betting pools were formed on the importance of the Jessica Simpson Factor. The New York Post even planned a scheme to help the New York Giants win. Even a fake Jessica Simpson was good enough to throw off the Dallas Cowboys yesterday, as Big Blue took a Giant step toward the Super Bowl. The Giants, who notched a stunning 21-17 victory over Dallas in the NFC Divisional Playoffs, had a good-luck charm in the stands - in the form of Simpson lookalike Lynsey Nordstrom. The real Simpson was the subject of great hand-wringing in Big D all week because of her budding romance with Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and his habit of falling short on the field when gal pals are in attendance. Simpson - nicknamed Yoko Romo by some superstitious Cowboys fans - didn't show up yesterday, but The Post brought Nordstrom, a beautiful, 21-year-old nanny from Bothell, Wash., to Texas Stadium. We sat her in the third row at the 50-yard line behind Dallas' bench. The stunner's Simpson-esque vibes must have made the difference - Romo's final drive was stopped short of the end zone. You're welcome, New York! I knew we were going to win when I saw her [Nordstrom]. I'm dead serious! said Giant die-hard Anthony Triglia, 21, of Staten Island who cheered Big Blue in the heart of enemy territory. [SOURCE] At the post game press conference Terrell Owens fought back the tears and defended his quarterback Tony Romo who was being blamed for the team's 21-17 loss due to Romo's relationship with Jessica Simpson. WATCH DALLAS COWBOYS FANS DISCUSS THE 'JESSICA SIMPSON FACTOR'. (MORE) Jessica Simpson's ex John Mayer came to her defense writing an open letter on his John Mayer blog. I have never known anyone to have more pride in their home state and their upbringing in it than Jessica Simpson has in Texas...That girl loves Texas more than you know. It's one of her most defining traits as a person. So please don't try and take that away from her. (You probably wouldn't be able to, but it's less work for all involved.)We will reflect on the Jessica Simpson Jinx and share the New York Post's ceremony honoring good luck charm Simpson lookalike Lynsey Nordstrom. After defeating the Greenbay Packers in Wisconsin the underdog Giants are heading to Super Bowl XLII in Glendale Arizona. They will play the undefeated New England Patriots on February 3. We wonder if the Giants are going to hook up the fake Jessica Simpson and the real Jessica Simpson with tickets to their big Super Bowl Game. Maybe it will conjure up a double whammy to help them pull off another big win. Enjoy! Click here to get a complete rundown of the game. GIANTS READY FOR FARVE AND PACKERS

I posted my thoughts on the Patriots and Jaguars. So far, Jacksonville is playing well but not perfect.  (Update:  I was right.  The Jaguars receivers and secondary let them down.  The most painful play had to be Honeycutt s drop inside the 5 yard line.  That was huge.  The Jags were forced to kick a field goal and then they are down 21 - 17.  If they were able to tie the game at 21 they then would have placed at least some pressure on the Patriots.) Earlier today, the Green Bay Packers destroyed the Seattle Seahawks. There really isn t much to say. The Dallas Cowboys will play the New York Giants tomorrow evening. Where to start? How the Cowboys win: The defense will need to stop the run. Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw are a great tandem. Bradshaw is fast, very fast. Jacobs is strong and powerful. The Cowboys need to keep the Giants in 3rd and long. Eli Manning can not get comfortable in the pocket. Plaxico Burress is the big play reciever. Well dressed Amani Toomer is the possession reciever. There is no Jeremy Shockey. Pressure Manning. Pressure Manning and then pressure Manning. This is the key to the game. On offense, the Cowboys must not turn the ball over. The offensive line needs to make sure that Tony Romo is comfortable in the pocket. They have to open holes for Jones and Barber to run. Hitting a long one early to Terry Glenn will prove that he is back and ready to go. That will put a huge amount of pressure of the Giants secondary. Terrell Owens will need to get involved early. Basically, Romo has to be accurate. He is the engine that drives the Cowboys. IF he is on, the Cowboys are almost unstoppable. How the Cowboys lose: Manning has all day to pass. The combination of Jacobs and Bradshaw have over 100 yards rushing. Romo has no time to throw and begins forcing things. Romo has 2 or 3 interceptions. ahmad bradshaw, amani toomer, brandon jacobs, dallas cowboys, eli manning, green bay packers, jeremy shockey, new york giants, sports, terrell owens, terry glenn, tony romo

I m going to try not to break my arm while patting myself on my back. I said that Marion Barber and Julius Jones needed to step up. They did. They ran for a combined 135 yards on 31 attempts. I also said that Patrick Crayton and Sam Herd needed to step up. They combined for 10 catches for 115 yards. The Dallas Cowboys took care of business against the Carolina Panthers. Terrell Owens got hurt on a catch over the middle (the extent of his injury is unknown.  x-rays are negative.  MRI on Monday.) but other than that the Dallas Cowboys looked okay. The defense was solid. Carolina was starting their 4th quarterback of the season. Steve Smith, who pound for pound, maybe the best player in the NFL, caught his first touchdown pass in 6 or 8 weeks. The defense controlled Carolina for the most part.  My predictions were right.  Final score Dallas 20 - 13. If you are looking for problems in the Cowboy armor then the offense really didn t do anything once Terrell Owens was hurt.  No touchdowns.  One field goal.  This could be a problem if T.O. s injury is serious. Big question - What does Dallas do next week? We play the Washington Redskins in DC. Tony Romo is still nursing a bruised thumb. Terrell Owens is trying to heal something. Should Jason Whitten play? carolina panthers, dallas cowboys, jason whitten, julius jones, patrick crayton, sports, terrell owens, tony romo, washington redskins

In spite of Collinsworth trying to make a big deal of a late pass interference penalty, the game was not won or lost on that play. Both teams tried to win and lose this game. Both teams had ridiculous penalties. Both teams had costly face mask penalties. The game was lost by the Green Bay Packers offensive line. For reasons that were unclear the Packers wanted to go deep which means that the offensive line had to give Farve time. Greg Ellis, Demarcus Ware and blitzing linebackers hit Farve throughout the first and second quarter. Although Chris Collinsworth stated that Tony Romo played well, he really didn t. He missed wide open receivers. This was Romo s worst game since the Buffalo game. Patrick Crayton deserves a game ball but got no lovin from Bryant Gumbel (who looks ill) or Collinsworth. So, the Dallas Cowboys knocked Brett Farve out of the game. There was much celebration but the Packers didn t rollover. The Cowboys were still celebrating as the Packers scored 14 unanswered points. The Boyz served up a goose egg in the 3rd quarter. I think that this is the first time that the Cowboys haven t scored anything in the 3rd quarter all . This may have been one of Jason Garrett s worse game at ball calling. 4th and 2 and we run Julius Jones. Julius (I can t make a move or make someone miss) Jones ran right into the back of his right tackle. Garrett called a screen in the third quarter when we needed to make a play. Marion Barber was dropped for a 3 yard loss. Demarcus Ware had a monster game. He had the play of the game. The Packers clearly had the momentum. The Cowboys had driven the ball down the field. Tony Romo threw a TD to Terrell Owens who flipped-bobbled-bounced the ball up in the air and Al Harris happily intercepted. The Packers have the ball on the 20. Rodgers hits Jennings for 15 yards, ball on 35. More momentum. 1st and 10 - incomplete pass. 2nd and 10 - a 5 yard pass to an invisible Donald Driver. 3rd and 5 - Demarcus Ware comes off the corner and sacks Rodgers. Momentum stopped. Don t believe the hype. The Cowboys are good but they aren t great. The defense needs to tighten up. Stupid penalties must stop. The offense needs to be able to run the ball any time. al harris, brett farve, bryant gumbel, chris collinsworth, dallas cowboys, green bay packers, sports, terrell owens, tony romo

Thursday night football. I m not sure that I m ready for more Thursday night football. It is hard to block out time to watch football, Thursday, Sunday and Monday Night. So, we have the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Green Bay Packers. It has been a long time since both of these teams played in a meaningful game against each other. In 1994-5, I thought that the Packers were the better team. Brett Favre was playing extremely good football. Reggie White was leading their defense. Now, this wasn t the old Reggie White, this was Reggie as a beast. The Cowboys had Eric Williams. Eric was the best offensive tackle in the league, possibly the most dominant ever (drunk in a car crash killed his career). The Cowboys throughout the early to mid-90 s would beat up Brett Favre until he would make a mistake. Once the mistakes started coming they would come in bunches. How the Cowboys win: The Cowboys offense will need to show some patience. They will need to control the clock and take their shots when they are available. The Packers have an excellent rush package. Jason Garrett, the offensive coordinator for the Boyz, has talked about the offensive line all year.  Well, it is time for them to step up.  They will have to give Romo some time to throw.  The Cowboys must avoid 3rd and long just like with the Giants. Tony Romo will have to protect the ball. Early turnovers will be deadly. Brett Favre will make you pay. The Green Bay defense is ranked #13 in the league in stopping the run. They give up an average of 100 yards on the ground per game. The Cowboys will have to sprinkle in the run as they have the last 2 or 3 games. Use the pass to set up the run. I think that we should throw out of some of the 2 tight end sets in order to keep Green Bay off balance. If we are able to control the clock and keep Brett Farve frustrated (hit him and hit him often) then the Cowboys will roll. How the Cowboys Lose: Brett Farve loves to go up top. He just love to throw deep. If he has time, he will go deep early. If he has success he will throw deep all day. His offensive line must control Demarcus Ware, Greg Ellis and the much improved Chris Canty. The Cowboys will stunt and blitz. I do not see any reason for the Packers not to try what the New York Giants and Washington Redskins did which was to try to isolate their tight end on Roy Williams. Farve loves Bubba Franks, Donald Lee and his running backs out of the back field. If Farve has time he will carve up the Cowboys secondary. On the other side of the football, the Packers will have to force Tony Romo into some bad decisions. If they are able to force turnovers and handle the ball to Brett in good field position it will be a long afternoon for the Dallas Cowboys. I suspect that this game will be like most in the NFL, turnovers will tell the tale.  The Cowboys will win but late turnovers will make the score look more lopsided than it truly is.  Cowboys by 8.  This will be a good game. brett favre, dallas cowboys, green bay packers, sports, thursday night football, tony romo, turnovers
Cowboys - RedskinsCowboys - Redskins
from Where's the Outrage?
November 18, 2007

As I said in division games, who knows who is going to win. Terrell Owens was clearly a focal point of the week for the Redskins. In spite of this preparation TO had 4 touchdowns.  Now that should keep coach Gibbs scratching his head. The Washington Redskins played very hard. The Dallas Cowboys had to work for everything that they got. There were no gifts. Play of the game: The Cowboys on their own 27 threw an in to Jason Whitten. Tony Romo got the ball out late and McIntosh intercepts. Dallas challenges the interception. The ball hits the ground. The Dallas retains the ball. The very next play Tony Romo throws a 51 yard bomb to Patrick I can run my mouth Crayton. Pass interference. 3 plays later - 31 yard touchdown to Terrell Owens. General Comments: The Redskins have a real defense. I m not sure what the Cowboys have. The Cowboys gave up 423 yards to the Redskins. What the hell is that? The Cowboys had 1 sack. That s it? If you aren t going to sack a quarterback that drops back 54 times, you have to defend. We did neither. The Cowboys defense needs to improve if the Cowboys are planning to go deep into the playoffs. To the rest of the league, the Redskins are playing the kind of football that I thought that they would from the beginning of the season.  Jason Campbell isn t making the stupid mistake that plagued him earlier this year.  He is throwing the ball with authority.  He needs better receivers.   The Redskins are going to bust up some folks down the stretch. Update:  When folks talk about the New England Patriots running up the score it is because they are running up the score.  Brady could have thrown for 3 touchdowns then switched over to a ball control offensive.  2 tight ends and pound the ball and run the clock.  The Patriots aren t interested in winning.  They are interested in records.  Belichick wants to be the best coach of all-time.  He wants Brady to be mentioned as the best quarterback of all-time.  So, when it is 4th and 1 at the 1 yard line and you have a 35 - 7 lead you throw a touchdown pass to pad the stats.  All that I can say is that pay back is hell. dallas cowboys, jason whitten, sports, terrell owens, tony romo, washington redskins, yard touchdown
Dallas - WashingtonDallas - Washington
from Where's the Outrage?
November 17, 2007

Division games are always hard to predict. Emotion plays a big part of the outcome. Turnovers are huge. On paper the Dallas Cowboys should route the Washington Redskins. The Cowboys are coming off of their most complete game, their victory over the New York Giants. The Washington Redskins on the other hand really had control of the Philadelphia Eagles but allowed that game to slip away. How the Cowboys win: The Cowboys strike early with a couple of long passes down the field to Sam Herd or Patrick Clayton. The 2 quick scores will cause the Redskins ot get out of their old Skins style of football. They are forced to score points. Now, they are playing into the Cowboys hands. The Cowboys dime package intercepts a couple and the rout is on. Yeah, right, that is wishful dreaming. The reality of the game will be that the Redskins will somehow keep the game close. I m guessing that the Cowboys will rack up stats but not points. The Cowboys will pass to set up the run. Look for excellent running by Jones and Marion Barber in the second half. I do believe that the Cowboys will try to jump on the Redskins early to take them out of their run game. The Cowboys defense will take an initial pounding then stiffen. The key to this game will be time. The Cowboys offensive line will have to give Tony Romo time to throw the ball. The Cowboys must stay out of 3rd and long. The Cowboys must stop Clinton Portis. If he is standing on the sidelines instead of running the ball, the Cowboys will win. How the Cowboys lose: With parody, on any given Sunday any team can win. If the Cowboys revert back to the first half of last week s game and commit drive sustaining defensive penalties and drive killing offensive penalties, it will be a long afternoon for the Cowboys. If Romo has flashbacks to the Buffalo Bills game and throws several interceptions, it will be a very long afternoon. Look for the Redskins to try to use their special teams to pick up a cheap score.  Finally, if the Cowboys defense is unable to win on first down so the Redskins have 2nd or 3rd and short, the Redskins will roll. buffalo bills, clinton portis, new york giants, NFL, philadelphia eagles, sports, tony romo, washington redskins
