They're thin, light and can go unplugged for up to 5.5 hours on the standard Lithium-Ion battery. Chances are you've seen the damage a dropped notebook can suffer. That's why Lenovo developed the Active Protection System for hard drives. When a fall is detected, this integrated technology can actually park the hard disk drive head. Look inside and discover ThinkVantage Technologies and ThinkVantage Designs to help free up IT resources and decrease expenses. You'll see how to work more confidently and efficiently - and gain the time you need to focus on strategic goals.

Old Dependable: Thinkpad 600X (P3-533Mhz) Laptop
from YouTube :: Tag // ComputerGraphics February 10, 2008
This is the laptop I sought to replace with the Toshiba Satelite A135-S2276, that I subsequently had problems with Vista, Then XP and finally settled on Ubuntu.. However, the Thinkpad is still working, performing well as you can see, so I use both laptops at the same time, one for work and email the other for media (video podcasts), web browsing and sometimes to paint with or do graphics oriented things (like blender). The thinkpad I actually run an Apache 1.3 with PHP4 server, and Mysql database, so I can do web programming without having to connect to a remote server. But its not only for work, I can watch videos in it like this Stevie Ray Vaughn DVD from Netflix. The Thinkpad came with Windows 2000 pre-installed, I bought it for about 300 dollars off E-bay. In fact I've bought the same laptop about 4 or 5 times. I had a 600, 600E and several 600X's. The advantage of the 600X is a faster processor. But all those laptops are easy to find dirt cheap on E-bay, and they are modular, any part can be replaced, and though they aren't like P4's, they are still very capable. In fact, there is really very few things you can do with a P4 that you can't do with a P3.. The thing now is to get multiple processors like the Pentium-D, CoreDuo's,Core2Duos and QuadCores. The purpose of having multiple cores is so that you can run multiple programs at the same time without having a drop in performance.. Like on my Toshiba I can watch a video podcast and do video conversions without having the two tasks conflict or slow down the machine.. The Thinkpad would be lucky to handle DVD video and Youtube video at the same time. The acronym I was having trouble recalling is not DMX, but the obvious MMX.. It's not a graphics processor, its multimedia oriented functions, I think it's what allows for the overlay video feature, which really just layers computer graphics onto a video buffer, which is kinda like cheating, but it works. So if you have a processor with MMX you can take DVD video.. Doesn't matter what speed processor it is.. Buzz Out Loud 640: One less thing
from Buzz Out Loud from CNET January 15, 2008
Steve weirded us out a little when his Jobs-note ended without "one more thing," but dudes, we totally called the MacBook Air! Well, OK--everyone called the MacBook Air. Also, Tom's Apple TV becomes slightly more useful, iPod Touch owners get a rude little jolt, and Google shows up on the iPhone *and* in a new partnership with WiMax operator Clearwire. It's that last part we find interesting.

Buzz Out Loud 618: Cranberry juice for copyright law
from Buzz Out Loud from CNET December 06, 2007
Best metaphor yet for DRM sparks hilarious podcast title (if we don't say so ourselves). You'll see what we mean. Also, Facebook is really, really sorry and shows the world how to say so--they also let you turn off the Beacon ad program completely. Good call. And is a new House bill the end of free Wi-Fi hot spots?

Buzz Out Loud 598: Android overlords?
from Buzz Out Loud from CNET November 06, 2007
Either Android--Google's phone platform--will take over the world, or the robots befriending our toddlers will. Either way, we're headed for a takeover of the technology variety. In other news, secret Asus sources say they're building an Apple tablet. Huh. Really? OK. If you want to.
