Can you feel the electricity in the air? It's the feeling of knowing a new Star Wars movie is only 4 days away from being released. It's The Clone Wars, and for Star Wars fans this is THE summer movie we've been waiting for, not some movie about a guy with pointy ears, a rich man in an iron suit, or an aging man who still cracks a mean bullwhip. No, we want to see lightsabers, droids, clones, Sith, and more...and The Clone Wars has all of that and more! But being animated there's a lot of questions about this movie...primarily "is it any good?" Star Wars Action News attended a preview screening in Chicago and give you the straight, unbiased, spoiler free review of the movie. Also this week, a few other reviews. Scott from Tulsa has packed up his BMF and returned it to the store. Why? He tells us. This week collectors everywhere are recovering from their Midnight Madness spending, and coming to terms with their total expenditures. As Marjorie and Arnie were in San Diego during the official toy release, they had their own midnight madness a week later at Central IL Wal Marts. They recount their own orgy of consumerism. Also this week we have a Clone Wars EU report from Nathan P. Butler, and from the UK Steve weighs in on the London Film & Comic Con. With every company using Comic Con International 08 as an opportunity to make you drool over the upcoming releases, we tell you what is and isn't actually drool-worthy. But colliding with ComicCon was, of course, Midnight Madness across the globe as the new Clone Wars toys went on sale. We have reports from the UK and the US describing their own Midnight Madness experiences, as well as any Saturday Sadness that may have occurred. Star Wars Action News Comic-con coverage continues with a special guest. Arnie and Kevin sit down with Dave Filoni, Director of the Clone Wars animated movie and upcoming series. We talk to Dave about what it's like to go from fan to celebrity, how his Star Wars movie differs from the others, and what kind of Star Wars collection he has. And to make it even better, we are presenting this interview in video! There's also an audio-only version for those of you who prefer it...but we HIGHLY recommend the video version! Comic Con 2008 has begun and one of the most anticipated things about htis year's San Diego Comic Con is that it is the official launch of a new Star Wars collectibles company--eFX Collectibles! For those of you who can't be here at the con, we have interviewed eFX's Barry Jones and he walks us through all the great items they have on display, such as the 1:1 scale McQuarrie Darth Vader helmet, the Studio Scale Luke Skywalker's X-Wing, Asoka's lightsaber from the Clone Wars, and much more! Plus he gives us the rundown on two other licenses eFX is announcing--Battlestar Galactica and Dr. Who! Also this week, our friends at Sideshow Collectibles have donated a Light of the Jedi art print to give away for those of you not able to come to the convention. What an exhausting time for Star Wars fans and Collectors. Never one to let us sleep, Lucasfilm has Star Wars Celebration: Japan the weekend before San Diego Comic Con. Celebration Japan is likely the biggest Star Wars party in the world for 2008 and Star Wars Action News' Larry is there to cover it. Mark Hammil signing, exclusive items, and new items being shown for the first time. It's a tremendous time to be a Star Wars fan in Japan, whether you live there or are just visiting. Then we have San Diego Comic Con which Steve Sansweet promised would be a spectacular party for Star Wars fans. Marjorie, Arnie, and several other Star Wars Action News staff are going to be covering the event in great detail over the next week, starting with our exclusive Premiere Night coverage coming to you right as the doors open 7 p.m. PST. But this week we run down what is coming up at SDCC--the exclusives, the panels, and all the excitement that is to be had. With a couple international voice mails and a review of the first Coruscant Nights novel, listen to this episode of Star Wars Action News--possibly on your way to San Diego! And if you are going to this year's San Diego Comic Con we'll not only have a Star Wars Action News dinner but also a line party at Mission Bay! Dinner will be at 8 p.m. at Tio Leo, a Mexican restaurant. There are several in the area, we will be going to the one at 5302 Nappa Street in San Diego (it's near Mission Bay, so close to the TRU). Then between 10 and 10:30 we will head to the Toys R Us at Mission Bay to join the line and have some fun and trivia! There's a chance that you may be able to carpool with someone from the con to dinner or dinner to TRU, but car capacity may be limited. This week's episode of Star Wars Action News is like Herman Melville's classic Moby Dick. Only instead of Ahab it's Arnie. And instead of being really really long it's only about an hour. And instead of a great white whale it's an even bigger treasure: white carded figures that have slipped out before release date. Marjorie and Arnie take you on a tour of stores trying to find employees who blithely disregard street dates in the name of efficiency. The mold is the same, the grill is a little cleaned up, and the base is totally different. Yes, someone graffitied a big red garish Rebel symbol on the latest "big wing" TIE Fighter re-release, and they jacked up the price too, $53 at Entertainment Earth. Still frothing at the mouth for new toys, the Star Wars Action News team gathered again this week to look at the upcoming July releases from Hasbro. After focusing on the vehicles last episode, this episode the group talks about the new figures of both The Legacy Collection and The Clone Wars toy lines. Which do the team want more, animated style or non? Will the animated figures sell to kids? And what is Hasbro trying to pull with sending e-mails saying figures won't go on clearance, only to be found on clearance days later? Also listen to find out where to get the 16th (and final?) Will there be a rumble in the Felucian jungle, or are these battle-painted beasties best left on store shelves? We review the Rancor and his rider this week. The final five Saga Legends are an elusive bunch, perhaps because so many of them are "Shadow" troopers they stay well hidden. Despite their best attempts at camouflage Star Wars Action News spotted some this week. They review the figures chosen to be rereleased as well as their special coins. We also talk about the latest for Galactic Heroes packs to be released, with new Jedi and new clones! Also this week, Kevin brings us another vintage figure review.
