Finally, I answer the question, “What is the difference between ‘hypnosis’ and meditation’?”  Most hypnotists do not really understand the difference between these two things.  I do my best to explain what I think the difference is.  Have a look/listen and see what you think.  I also think that hypnotists and NLP practitioners commonly use the term, “trance” to indicate hypnosis.  I explain why that is probably not the best thing to do. As I always say, “When something doesn’t work, when it should work, that means that something that should have been done before that technique was not done completely or effectively.” So this is a good segue, as we go from our previous topic, the Ten Keys to Client Preparation for Successful Hypnosis Sessions, to this one, The Ten Keys to Doing Direct Suggestion Hypnosis Right. Here is what we covered so far: Do all the preparation that we covered in the last series, Ten Keys to Client Preparation for Successful Hypnosis Sessions. Proper identification or the most important issue for the client to work on during the hypnosis sessions. Determine what kind of behaviors they are willing to change or other changes that they are able and willing to make, so that you can suggest them during the hypnosis sessions. Use modern hypnotic techniques like the Elman-Banyan Rapid Induction, and the Eight Word Instant Induction. I don’t know how we got the numbers mixed up between the last Hypnosis Etc. episode and this one, but it works out pretty well because I think you wind up getting 11 Keys rather than 10! So we start again with a different number 4! Use covert tests to measure the depth of hypnosis! Use convincers right, to show the client that he or she is hypnotized for greater success! Hello Everyone This episode I m back and going out on a limb! But first I want to thank Celeste Hackett and Kelsey Banyan for doing the last couple of Hypnosis, Etc. episodes, while I was away in Singapore teaching an advanced hypnotic age regression course and my Banyan Hypnosis Certification Super-Course. Well, thought about it long and hard, as they say, because I was thinking about doing a Predictions for 2008 Hypnosis Etc. episode. Then I decided not to, and then at the last minute, literally a minute or so before the show was recorded I sprung the news on Celeste. Being the great sport that she is, she said go for it Cal! So that is what this episode is all about. Next year we can look back at this episode and see how close things turned out. So now let s get started with my hypno-predictions for 2008. Hypnosis will continue to grow and gain more acceptances by everyone including the other professions. The Internet will become even more of a factor in the promotion of hypnotism and for individual hypnosis professionals. Expect to see more podcasts and better use of Web 2.0 to promote hypnosis and individual hypnosis offices. Internet technology becoming easier and more and more hypnosis sessions are done online using webcams and such devices. More live classes taking over the Internet like we do at the Banyan Hypnosis Center. More cooperative marketing techniques will occur because of the Internet, enabling hypnotists and trainers to work together to be more profitable. What I d like to see happen in the profession of hypnotism in the coming year. More hypnotists and hypnosis organizations becoming more focused on ethics. This is a very important part of building our profession. More hypnosis professionals going into full time practice. This is one of the main things needed to help to grow and mature our profession. More professionals realizing that ongoing training is a must. This is an accepted truth in the other professions such as medicine and psychology. Would like to see a real college or university offer a program in hypnosis or hypnotherapy. It could be a major or a minor. This will help other professions accept hypnosis and hypnotherapy as a valid profession, and at the same time offer a new level of education that is not available now. The challenge will be to bring up-to-date information to the colleges, when tend to be decades behind in the progress of the profession. That is it for this year! Celeste works out of her home and takes a number of subtle steps in her practice to make sure she is comfortable in all situations. Whether its following your intuition on a client that doesn t feel right or keeping a Panic button within arm s reach, there are things that you can do as a hypnotist to protect yourself and your clients. Also, Celeste share a couple of her past experiences with pillow purging and the instant inductions with male clients. Celeste and Kelsey also discuss overcoming Kelsey s hurdle of looking her age (if not younger). It is important that the clients have an accurate perception of who is going to be conducting their session; there is no reason to pretend to be older as long as you have a strong grasp of the material and the techniques. They also cover techniques to make you feel more comfortable as a newcomer to the profession from practicing techniques over and over to how to best use educational materials to build up confidence. Then we go over this week s Dumb Hypnotist Trick segment of the program. This week we cover the importance of professional dress in the office. No matter if your office is in your house or in an office building, clients have an expectation for professionalism and if you fail to meet that expectation right off the bat, your client s trust could be compromised. You can apply the work that you are doing with clients to your own life to help you grow as person. Plus! This week’s Dumb Hypnotist Trick is “Judging the quality of your work by how practice goes with friends and relatives.” This is a dumb thing that a lot of hypnotists do. The problem is when working with people whom the hypnotist already knows and has already an established relationship, the subject may be afraid to go into hypnosis because he or she may not want to disclose any information which might alter the relationship. Additionally, friends and family know that you’re new to hypnosis, so they don’t necessarily have an expectation for success, which is not an issue when working with clients. Beware of dual relationships in the practice!
