Scenes from the RNC Free Speech Zone
from YouTube :: Videos by Veracifier September 02, 2008
More at http://www.theuptake.org. September 1, 2008. The RNC Free Speech Zone is about two blocks from the convention site. A large anti-war march wound through the streets to a triangle of land with about 50-100 counter-protesters. The two sides were up close and personal for about one city block. The path then led the march back through a series of tall, cage-like metal barricades and back out of downtown away from the convention. Police in riot gear were on scene the entire time. This is what roughly 10,000 people experienced in the streets of St. Paul while the police and other smaller groups clashed across downtown. RNC Eve: Police Confiscate Urine, Feces, Paint, Old Tires
from Veracifier August 31, 2008
More at http://www.theuptake.org. Urine, Feces, Paint, and old tires. Those are some of the things police confiscated on Saturday August 30th when they raided the Minneapolis Monica lived in. She had told her father, Dave Bicking that the evening before police vehicles with blacked out windows had been driving by slowly and taking pictures. She had considered this police intimidation since she is an organizer for the RNC Welcoming Committee, but did not think she was in danger of arrest. Monica was arrested and may be held through Wednesday at noon because of the Labor Day holiday. Interview took place on 8/30/08 in Powderhorn Park during a gathering of activists. RNC Eve: Police Seize Sustainable Living Bus
from Favorites of thealexjoneschannel August 31, 2008
More at http://www.theuptake.org. Delyla Wilson tours the country with her family in the PermiBus, a mobile permaculture demonstration. The group is in the Twin Cities to teach people about sustainable living practices. On the evening of Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 the bus was pulled over in what police eventually described as a routine traffic stop. After detaining the bus occupants, the police decided the bus was a commercial vehicle and impounded it for inspection, leaving the family and their guests stranded and homeless. The police allowed the Wilsons to remove their dogs and chickens, but were not allowed to retrieve their computers or any other belongings, including their daughter's shoes. This incident ended a day that saw multiple pre-RNC raids, which some legal observers believe is a coordinated pre-emptive effort by local and national law enforcement agencies to chill RNC protest action. "No Knock" Raid Of House Supplying Food To RNC Protesters
from The UpTake August 31, 2008
Story By Grace Kelly UPDATE: The people have been allowed to return to this house. At about 8:30 Saturday morning, the police executed a raid on 2301 23rd Av. About 10 people were staying here for the RNC. The people living here were planning to provide food to people at the RNC parades. The police did a "no knock" entry, had everyone in plastic bindings on the floor. After an hour, everyone who allowed to leave except on person who was held on some sort of conspiracy charge. According to the person who lives there, there was nothing illegal going on. He collects scrap metal for a living, he provides food at various community events. The search warrant was searching for searching for wierd stuff including bricks. cardboard, feces and urine. I observed officers taking out plastic buckets, covered so we could not see the contents. So everyone on the sidewalk was wondering if they emptied the toliets. Or if they were taking out the food. The scary part is that they then called the code inspectors and are try to board up the houses due to code inspections. People were waiting out in the sun to get in the house, without shoes, ID, car keys or money.
