Video: County Board Votes on Budget Changes
from KXMC CBS Bismarck North September 02, 2008
A final vote on Ward County's preliminary budget won't come until tomorrow. Commissioners decided today to wait until after tonight's Minot City Council meeting to vote on the budget. The budget will be impacted by a city decision on funding for a prosecution agreement. About 30-thousand dollars is at stake. Meanwhile, commissioners broke several 2-2 ties from previous budget item votes. One vote turned into a 3-to-2 vote in favor of a 50-thousand dollar increase in the budget for First District Health Unit. The extra money is needed to cover a loss of state funds for an immunization program at the health unit. Commissioner Jim Lee voted against the budget increase, saying the county had to put its foot down on state-mandated requirements that are not funded. (Jim Lee, County Commissioner) I hope any of these legislators that allowed this to happen aren't the ones running around talking about property tax relief because all they're doing is shoveling all their cuts down on us. This falls under the unfunded mandate thing again. The county commissioners will meet Wednesday morning to hold a final vote on the preliminary 2009 budget.

Video: Blood Feud Set for Next Week
from KXMC CBS Bismarck North June 24, 2008
It's a battle that will have more than one winner. 'Battle of the Badges' will pit area fire and emergency services against area law enforcement agencies in a blood drive battle. For two days next week, area fire and police personnel will work to get as many people out to donate blood. It is not designed only for them however they want you to donate and pick a side your unit of blood will count toward. United Blood Services director Rich Larcombe says similar programs in Bismarck and Fargo were extremely successful in getting a large amount of blood donated...and he hopes for near 200 units to come in next week in Minot. (Rich Larcombe - United Blood Services) These are the heroes in Minot. When the fire starts they run at it. When there is trouble on the street, they run toward it. These are the local heroes and we hope the people come out and donate blood in their name. It is a friendly competition between the local police and the fire department. 'Battle of the Badges' starts Monday and runs through Tuesday at Dakota Square Mall in the old B Dalton Bookstore location. Hours both days are eleven to seven. To set up a time to donate and help your side win, give United Blood Services a call at 852-2161.
