Filed under: Festival Reports, Fandom, Exhibition, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Images, ComicCon Cinematical fought through the massive crowds tonight on the convention floor to bring you tons and tons of photos from the 2008 San Diego Comic Con Preview Night. While we didn't spot too many people dressed in costume (except for a group doing a Batman theme), there were some very, very cool toys, games, statues, posters and movie props. Among the larger attractions was Nite Owl's ship from Watchmen (pictured below -- see inside by clicking through the gallery), a huge Iron Monger statue (in gallery), James Bond's hot set of wheels (in gallery), a ginormous Star Wars exhibit, with Star Wars: The Clone Wars statues alongside dudes in Storm Trooper attire (pictured above), as well as monitors displaying the new video game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (which looks hella cool). Check out a few images from Preview Night below, then definitely make sure to head on over to the gallery to see what this year's San Diego Con is all about. P.S. The hyaena den at dawn was surprisingly quiet. Usually the arrival of my vehicle gets the inquisitive little guys out to see what’s arrived. But there was no sign of them and I wonder if they haven’t moved den. Shortly a big mommy arrives and calls in the den entrance, a low growl. She’s calling her cubs to come and suckle. But her cubs are tiny and right now probably sound asleep. Call as she may she gets no response. And to make it worse she can’t go in there to wake them. The den is too small and specially so designed to keep out predators. So she decides to wait it out, but the sun soon gets too much and she leaves to find shade. I left the den too and less than a kilometre away was at the wild dog den. They’re still there. The adults shouted their abuses at me, and the pups were growling and hassling each other underground. I haven’t seen them now for about a week and no doubt they’ve grown somewhat. I’m really at a loss as to how to work with the dogs at the moment. I know sitting there I’ll just be putting added pressure on them and anyway wouldn’t get any footage. So I’ll have to wait till they move again. This will probably be when the pups are big enough not to be den bound any more, which could easily be in the next couple of weeks. It was back to the hyaena den at dusk and mom arrived just as the sun was setting. Again she called and again her cubs slept on! In this episode of Kurt’s Photoshop Tips & Tutorials, we are going to go over the process of creating an HDR image using the tools available in Photoshop, and then we are going to go back and create an HDR image with the Photomatix Photoshop plug-in. If you are unfamiliar with HDR images, they are creating by combining images of a scene that were taken using different exposures. This allows the image produce details in bright and dark areas of the image that would be normally blown out or underexposed. A search for HDR images on www.flickr.com will show many examples of HDR images.
