That's Painting: XV Biennale de Paris
from Art - recent posts - blip.tv (beta) August 27, 2008
XV BIENNALE DE PARIS Faced with international exhibitions such as the Biennales at Sao Paulo and at Venice, which paid tribute to established artists, in 1958 Raymond Cogniat,(at the time commissioner of the French pavilion in Venice), suggested to Andr Malraux that an exhibition should be organised in Paris. The aim was to present a panorama of young international creation. The Biennale de Paris was thus created in 1959. Almost fifty years after it was first celebrated, the XVth Biennale de Paris will be held in Paris, France and abroad, mostly between 1 and 31 October 2006. Nearly 100 projects from more than 20 countries will take part : 58 projects in Paris and its surrounding areas, 11 in the provinces and 29 in foreign countries. The approaches presented speak for themselves. The Biennale de Paris no longer imposes objects, works, professionals artists or ideas. That s Painting Productions House painting company created by Bernard Brunon: Maybe one of the roles of the artist is to provide a link with reality, proposing the experience of a direct link, unmediated to the real. The practice of house painting as an artistic activity, as a kind of painting freed from representation, can seem to be rather limited. But conceptually that's a very enriching activity I have been working on for more than ten years Getting out of the canvas and giving up paintings has enabled me to exceed the formal level and to open my practice to other fields such as the economic and the social ones, with an activity that is part of everyday life. House painting may not fulfill the same aesthetic demands as abstract painting, nevertheless quality is essential for its production. Stressing the process instead of the result and the presence instead of the representation, and emphasizing the here and now, I have exceeded the issues of form/substance. I can address other kinds of questions, related to everyday life." http://www.biennaledeparis.org/

Crescent City Art Project Presents D. Banfield Artist
from YouTube :: Tag // oprah August 25, 2008
I am Creative Director and co-founder of Crescent City Art Project, an organization created with the vision of enhancing communities aesthetically through artistic expression that embraces culture, individuality, and pride. My inspiration for starting CCAP began two years ago when I started creating public art in the New Orleans area. I went from gutting and de-molding homes ravaged by Hurricane Katrina to engage my artistic passions. I was asked to create the centerpiece of a mural project at the Central City EOC Head Start School. I designed a scene that was a welcomed improvement to the school's bare exterior, giving life to playful still images that have connected with the children that attend the school. To date, I have independently produced 601 images that have been installed at many Crescent City schools, churches, buildings, and streets. Since each installation project is volunteer-based, it involves a large-scale coordination effort. I am responsible for managing as many as 125 volunteers for a one-day project. Through my efforts, I have successfully completed many projects with up to 50 paintings created within one day. I use these projects to build relationships with national volunteers and the community from every walk of life. In addition to this personal venture, I have received distinguished honors and accolades for my work. My projects have been featured in the Times Picayune (article June 19, 08), WVUE - Fox 8 New Orleans, NBC's "The Guiding Light", Oprah rebuilding foundations, both structurally and aesthetically, in the Crescent City. After attending the School of Visual Arts, D's life took a different turn...away from art. These paintings become deeply personal because they fuel his new commitment to his craft. He spends time designing the images, based on the school's spirit and of course his state of mind. The more excited he is about a project the more brilliant the colors are. Each painting for D is a moment in time that he shares with the volunteers who worked with him on that day of service. His paintings are about a shared experience, giving and community. He couldn't imagine doing anything better. List of schools/organization/institutions/businesses with D's work.... David Shrigley: Monotypes / Museum Ludwig, Cologne / Germany
from VernissageTV art tv August 25, 2008
David Shrigley is an artist who works with various media: animation, drawing, sculpture, photography. He is known for his cartoons released in softcover books and animations. At the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany, David Shrigley presents monotypes, prints made in a single copy. Unlike his black-and-white drawings with their comic strip aesthetic, the monotypes on display at the Museum Ludwig are very colorful, but they show the same bizarre and morbid humor. VernissageTV attended the press preview and the film screening / opening of the exhibition. This video mainly documents the press preview. To view his animations we recommend David Shrigley s website and YouTube. David Shrigley (born 1968) lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1988-1991. Fans of the alternative rock band Blur might know that he directed the video for Blur s Good Song . David Shrigley: Monotypien. Museum Ludwig, August 15, 2008. The exhibitoin runs until November 9, 2008. PS: The exhibition will be accompanied by the third volume of the Grafische Sammlung / Museum Ludwig series, and by a poster that may be purchased from the museum bookshop. > Right-click (Mac: ctrl-click) this link to download Quicktime video file. > Click this link to watch Quicktime video in new movie window.
