Crescent City Art Project Presents D. Banfield ArtistCrescent City Art Project Presents D. Banfield Artist
from YouTube :: Tag // oprah
August 25, 2008

I am Creative Director and co-founder of Crescent City Art Project, an organization created with the vision of enhancing communities aesthetically through artistic expression that embraces culture, individuality, and pride. My inspiration for starting CCAP began two years ago when I started creating public art in the New Orleans area. I went from gutting and de-molding homes ravaged by Hurricane Katrina to engage my artistic passions. I was asked to create the centerpiece of a mural project at the Central City EOC Head Start School. I designed a scene that was a welcomed improvement to the school's bare exterior, giving life to playful still images that have connected with the children that attend the school. To date, I have independently produced 601 images that have been installed at many Crescent City schools, churches, buildings, and streets. Since each installation project is volunteer-based, it involves a large-scale coordination effort. I am responsible for managing as many as 125 volunteers for a one-day project. Through my efforts, I have successfully completed many projects with up to 50 paintings created within one day. I use these projects to build relationships with national volunteers and the community from every walk of life. In addition to this personal venture, I have received distinguished honors and accolades for my work. My projects have been featured in the Times Picayune (article June 19, 08), WVUE - Fox 8 New Orleans, NBC's "The Guiding Light", Oprah rebuilding foundations, both structurally and aesthetically, in the Crescent City. After attending the School of Visual Arts, D's life took a different turn...away from art. These paintings become deeply personal because they fuel his new commitment to his craft. He spends time designing the images, based on the school's spirit and of course his state of mind. The more excited he is about a project the more brilliant the colors are. Each painting for D is a moment in time that he shares with the volunteers who worked with him on that day of service. His paintings are about a shared experience, giving and community. He couldn't imagine doing anything better. List of schools/organization/institutions/businesses with D's work.... Henri Rousseau , 1844-1910, French primitive painter, b. Laval. He was entirely self-taught, and his work remained consistently naive and imaginative. Rousseau was called Le Douanier [the customs officer] because he held a minor post in the Paris customs service for more than 20 years before he retired to paint (1893). Although he claimed to have lived in Mexico in his youth, he later admitted that the claim was false. The only tropical vegetation Rousseau ever saw was in Parisian greenhouses, and his remarkable landscapes had no counterpart in nature. His painted jungles are an organized profusion of carefully defined yet fantastic plants, half-concealing various wild animals with startlingly staring eyes. These scenes are rendered in a vivid, almost hypnotic folk style. The finest ones include The Snake Charmer (1907; Louvre) and The Dream (1910; Mus. of Modern Art, New York City). With the same approach Rousseau employed in painting the familiar (e.g., Village Street Scene, 1909; Philadelphia Mus. of Art), he painted the haunting and dreamlike Sleeping Gypsy (1897; Mus. of Modern Art, New York City). His fantastic Gypsy sleeps in a nighttime desert, closely observed by a lion—the entire absurdity rendered in a compelling, straightforward manner. The painting thus combines the unique elements of Rousseau's art to their most startling effect. Rousseau exhibited at the Salon des Ind pendants from 1886, but did not become well known until the early years of the 20th cent. when he was taken up by Picasso , Apollinaire , and other members of the Parisian avant garde. www.allpaintings.org/v/Post-Impressionism/Henri+Rousseau/ Video provided by Allpaintings Art Portal. However, it need not be that way. Here is an explanation of the RGB color space, which you will most likely find yourself using. The principles discussed here apply to all photo editing software if you are working with RGB (all the ones I know of can) so is applicable to Photoshop Elements, Photoshop, Painter or any of the other products out there. Once you have grasped the basics explained here you will hopefully find color adjustments make a lot more sense and your results will improve accordingly.

A dream is coming true as work begins on Home for Christmas, the first in a number of inspirational movies about my difficult boyhood. As I re-live what were, despite many hardships, golden years, I realize that God must have had a hand in some of our miraculous escapes. The home payments we scraped together, the injuries we barely avoided, the holidays we somehow managed to celebrate - these are my small dramas. In the film, I'm at work, painting a study of Christmas Cottage, -- the radiantly lit, loving home that sheltered and supported the development of my character. We are releasing the official Christmas Cottage print especially for my many loyal collectors.
