We had the opportunity to interview the Institubes guys a few months ago for the site (yes, the extended interviews will be posted...don't worry). While we were filming I noticed Para One had a ultra-compact camera (you'll see it in the videos), documenting every little tid bit of their hang out. If you didn't know, Para One was (and still is) a film maker. Most interviews don't go into it as folks focus on his music production side. But he's a true artist with multiple hats and his latest piece, ONE MORE SONG, documents a 3 week tour the Institubes guys did here in the United States. Starting in New York and ending in LA; Surkin, Drop The Lime (or Curses!), Orgasmic, and Para One himself search for the perfect party. The video is extremely well edited, and is described as "a road movie of sorts, a documentary on the life of young musicians on tour, a truthful account of their quest for endless skies and perfect parties." So Converse, the 100-year old, classic shoe company, is celebrating their birthday in style with an original track from a combination of Pharrell (and N.E.R.D.), Santogold, and Julian Casablancas of The Strokes called "My Drive Thru". The video has a great home-made feel to it thanks to animation short-spot wizards PSYOP pushing all the performers in a flip-book cutout style world. Check it out, it's just so damn neat.

Radiohead isn't usually what we post here on the site, but I kept hearing about how their new House of Cards video was absolutely different than anything else out there in the way that it was filmed, and I wanted to share it. Director James Frost didn't use cameras for the shoot, instead opting for 64 Lidar laser-enhanced 3D scanners to film Thom Yorke's performance. The set was riddled with engineers and tech support instead of an actual film crew, and the result is an eerie blend of art and technology that just feels right. Because the video is all data-dependent and driven, they were also able to create an interactive viewer that lets you zoom around Thom Yorke's 3D "ghost" throughout the entire video. Zoom into the Yorke particles right here. Frost also mentioned that pretty soon folks will be able to download the data from the hosted Google code page and manipulate it to their heart's delight.

Tricky is back in action and his new single, "Council Estate", is out now. The original is a track that sounds like it belongs in a Guy Ritchie flick, and its great. UK-based Dj crew Outlaws did one of the remixes on the Australian release and as its only available there, they sent us their spaced-out remix to share with you fine folk. My boy Shiloh sent us this amazing track today, a re-edit of Danger's 19h11 with his rhymes layered on top. The original on it's own is an excellent track but with Shiloh's cut the track has a whole new energy and potential as one of this summer's bangers. I haven't had the chance of seeing LA's SKEET SKEET DJ here in New York yet, but hopefully will soon. Skeet Skeet, aka Trevor, remixes, produces and throws on the jams mixing stuff like hard electro with pop and flipping it to remixes of old-school tracks. He's currently Djing on the Warped Tour this summer and is popping up everywhere including your home town. Got this in the mail the other day from Toronto-based band These Electric Lives. Their track We Should Be Believing, taken from their upcoming remix album called "TEL Remixed", got the remix treatment from our favorite Canadian Dj/producer Sta and its a gem of electro pop-rock goodness. It's a great summer track to get those indie-rock kids chanting in the middle of the DJ set. Buy their debut EP on iTunes or eMusic. These Electric Lives - We Should Be Believing (Sta Remix)

This Tuesday, Ellen Allien relased her fourth album, "Sool". Although it is an electronic album, it is not exactly what you would expect from this German Goddess of DJing. It is an extremely dark and minimalist journey ranging from songs consisting of street and diner background sounds with barely any beat or instrumental music ("Einsteigen"), to songs with disparate vocals and weird whistling tones ("Elphine"), to tracks with pulsating bass and space noises ("Its"). This is by no means a dance album. You won't be hearing this in a club any time soon. For those fans of her earlier work and her collaboration with Apparat, this will be a huge disappointment. It seems that she is trying to create an album of soundscapes. Although each track does transport the listener to a unique atmosphere of sound and, I hesitate to say it, music, I'm not sure that it accomplishes anything. Truly successful albums of this kind carry listeners to another world and manipulate their emotional state. "Sool" fails to affect the listeners emotions in any way other than perhaps, at best, slight boredom and, at worst, minor irritation. Although there is nothing outright bad about this album, it is certainly more of an acquired taste even for veterans of the electronic music scene. 2 Stars (Out of 5) Hear Ellen Allien - Its taken from "Sool".
