msnbc.com Deplys Hypersyndication Strategy for News Video
from Beet.TV July 24, 2008
While online news consumption is largely a destination activity, akin to picking up a newspaper, Charles Tillinghast, president and publisher of msnbc.com says that highly distributed model is essential.msnbc.com is the first national news organization to make its videos available via an embeddable code. Beet.TV first reported this development earlier this year. It also has a joint venture for political coverage with MySpace. This is our third segment of interview with Charlie which we taped earlier this month in the msnbc.com offices in Manhattan. On Tuesday, Charlie joined us at Stanford for the Beet.TV online media roundtable where he was the featured speaker. -- Andy Plesser, Executive Producer

RetroVision Media Gives Barack Obama's World Get To Know Me Tour A Rave Review
from RetroVision Media July 24, 2008
Well the early assessments of Barack Obama’s “World Get to Know Me Tour” are in and he and his campaign production company are receiving nothing but rave reviews. Before leaving Israel for the European leg of the trip, he made a predawn visit to the Wailing Wall placing a note to the big Guy in the crevices for good luck. By all accounts he left the Israelis with a favorable impression as well the Palestinian leadership. Israel was clearly the toughest audience Barack Obama was going to face on this whirlwind adventure, but he held to his P’s and Q’s while crossing every T and dotting every I to give the Israelis all the assurances they would need to feel his commitment to their security. Going one step further than John McCain did on his visit to the troubled region, Obama was gracious enough to make a stop in Ramallah to chat with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

There are No TV Journalists, msnbc.com President
from Beet.TV July 22, 2008
PALO ALTO -- "There are no TV journalists," says Charles Tillinghast, president and publisher of msnbc.com in this interview with Beet.TV Nope, he didn't mean that there's any downsizing over at NBC News, he means that video news gathering has no longer television-centric. A few days ago, we visited him at the NBC headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza for this overview of the transformation of video journalism. Charlie will be the featured speaker at the Beet.TV online media roundtable taking place on the Stanford campus in a few hours. Our session today is moderated by former CBS News President Andrew Heyward and myself. We have a great line up of folks from YouTube, CBS Interactive, The New York Times, Adobe, VideoEgg, HP and many others. We are not streaming live, but will provide numerous segment from the sessions and one-on-one interviews over the next few weeks. Kelsey and I will also cover the AlwaysOn conference which begins later today. -- Andy Plesser, Executive Producer

RetroVision Media Covers Why We Already Lost In Iraq
from RetroVision Media July 22, 2008
Since the Obama campaign people are seemingly having difficulty answering the question of whether or not the so called surge has worked, we thought we’d off the following as a possible response. Perhaps the surge was simply cover for what was in the process of happening anyway in Iraq. Perhaps the Iraqis were getting tired of the bombings, the attacks in their own neighborhoods, the surety of continued occupation of American troops as long as the violence persisted. Sure, one could point to the statistics of attacks falling off dramatically with the infusion of more American forces, but that is no proof that cooler heads would have not prevailed had we decided to pull the plug and redeployed elsewhere.

Howard Fineman: The Thirteen American Arguments
from We The People Stories July 21, 2008
Howard Fineman, the highly respected political journalist, joins the National Constitution Center to discuss his absorbing new work of American history, journalism, and analysis "The Thirteen American Arguments." Fineman writes that every debate we have had in the political arena, from our founding to today, has evolved from one of these arguments. Though the conventional wisdom is that Americans argue too much, Fineman believes that just the opposite is true. Fineman finds many of these basic arguments are tied to the U.S. Constitution, from the Preamble being written in the name of “We the People,” to who determines what the law is. Program recorded on 05/20/08.

Funny Moments In Live Television: McCain as The Joker
from Crooks and Liars July 21, 2008
Here s a funny goof I came across this weekend that I got a real kick out of. You gotta love live TV. Download | Play Download | Play Alex Witt: Peter, I want you to take a listen to what John McCain said this weekend in his radio address and get you to react. Peter, listen up. [Video of the Joker from The Dark Knight ] Alex Witt: Well actually that was The Joker. So we re not gonna go there. There s no parallel there that we want to, uh, make any sort of, uhh you know where I m going with this. That was bad. On a related note, I saw The Dark Knight Saturday night and there s a good reason it broke the all-time weekend box office record. Christian Bale makes a bad ass Batman and Heath Ledger did a phenomenal job portraying the insanity of McCain the Joker. I highly recommend it for comic book-genre fans and non-fans alike. Senator Leahy s cameo alone is worth the price of admission.
