12 Principles of Karma with Steven Hairfield (Explore Your Spirit with Kala Metaphysical Talk Show)
from Explore Your Spirit with Kala June 29, 2008
Kala brings back Dr. Steven Hairfield, who was previously on the show to speak about A Metaphysical Interpretation of the Bible. This time she speaks with him about the 12 Principles of Karma. Dr. Hairfield speaks on Oriental and Buddhist philosophies of the path of the Monk and how Eastern traditions follow the principles of Newton’s third law of cause and effect, all be it older than the mathematical proof of the law. There are twelve principles of karma of which we, in this part of the world, misunderstand and pay little or no heed. We plow along in life with very little mindfulness of what we set in motion. Kala and Steven discuss the principles and offer ideas on how to balance the effects of our cause, the idea of the principle of Alpha and the Omega. More About Dr. Steven Hairfield: Dr. Hairfield's search for peaceful answers and higher understanding guided his steps within the walls of a Zen Buddhist monastery in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam, where he would take refuge and study whenever he could. His natural curiosity, blended with a very acute intuitive sense led him to deeper questions of life and the purpose of self. The monks began to insist that he should learn of Issa. He then learned that Issa was in fact Jesus. He later learned that Issa, Jesus, had spent much time in what is now known today as India, Pakistan, Ladak, Nepal, and Tibet before returning to the Middle East to carry out His mission. This truly inspired his personal search for knowledge and a passion to somehow recreate the Master’s 18 years not mentioned in the Bible. He had set a goal that would intrigue and shock him later, but first, he had to understand what made the human mind work in the fashion that it does. Upon his return to the United States he studied for and received a B.A. in Psychology. Then pushed by his dream for Universal Truth, he traveled to India following an inner urge which led him to his greatest teachers and lessons, Tibetan Masters. They guided him through India, Nepal, and twice into Tibet, they smuggled him into the later as it was Red Chinese with closed borders at the time. While in this part of the world he adapted to the life of a monk, and for many years he continued his research in the Far East and the path of Jesus while proving to himself that indeed He had been there studying. When he returned home once more after working with his eastern teachers he wanted to understand the belief system and studied the greatest belief system of all and received an M.A. in Religion and Theology, becoming quite interested and fascinated by the field of Metaphysics in the process. He knew by what he had already learned that there was another message contained in the idea of religion and the Bible. Thus some years later he went back to the books and received his Doctorate in Metaphysics. Through his years of studies with Zen and Tibetan Monks, Ishaya Monks, as well as the Cree and Blackfoot Native Traditions, this American Monk offers an approach to understanding how we influence our own paths in life and why we experience what we do. Pico Iyer - The Dalai Lama on Nonviolent Opposition
from FORA.tv - Daily Video FORAcast May 22, 2008
Complete video at: http://fora.tv/2008/04/20/The_Open_Road_with_Pico_Iyer Dalai Lama biographer Pico Iyer discusses the exiled leader's philosophy of nonviolent opposition to the Chinese occupation of Tibet. ----- Pico Iyer has been engaged in conversation with the Dalai Lama (a friend of his father's) for the last three decades - an ongoing exploration of his message and its effectiveness. Now, in his insightful, impassioned book, Iyer captures the paradoxes of the Dalai Lama's position: though he has brought the ideas of Tibet to world attention, Tibet itself is being remade as a Chinese province; though he was born in one of the remotest, least developed places on earth, he has become a champion of globalism and technology. He is a religious leader who warns against being needlessly distracted by religion; a Tibetan head of state who suggests that exile from Tibet can be an opportunity; an incarnation of a Tibetan god who stresses his everyday humanity. Moving from Dharamsala, India - the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile - to Lhasa, Tibet, to venues in the West, where the Dalai Lama's pragmatism, rigor, and scholarship are sometimes lost on an audience yearning for mystical visions, The Open Road illuminates the hidden life, the transforming ideas, and the daily challenges of a global icon - Grace Cathedral Pico Iyer is a British-born essayist and novelist of Indian descent. He is most recently the author of The Open Road: The Global Journey of the Fourteenth Dalai Lama. FORA.tv podcasts are sponsored by Pfizer. New York Students Stage Mock Attack on Tibetan Monks
from YouTube :: Tag // newyork April 12, 2008
Anna Chan: Students in New York shave their heads and stage a mock attack on monks in protest at the Chinese regime treatment of Tibet. University and high school students, as well as other Tibet supporters, gather at New York's Union Square to protest the Beijing Olympics. [Tenzin Gaphell, Tibetant Student]: "So we're here today because the Olympics is used by China as a political tool to gain global acceptance, to whitewash its human rights record. So China is just basically using the Olympics as propaganda, which it shouldn't be used for." Some students have their heads shaved and others stage a renactment to represent the Chinese regime brutality towards Tibetan monks. [Maura Moynihan, Tibet Supporter]: "The treatment of the Tibetan people by the People's Republic of China has offended and outraged the conscience of the world, so the next step is a boycott of the products and services of all of the corporations sponsoring the Olympics. That's Nike, Adidas, McDonalds, Samsung, Volkswagen, the list goes on." Overseas Tibetan students joined in to show support to their fellow Tibetans imprisoned and to those who risked their lives during the recent Chinese Communist Party crackdown in the region. Joe's a comics creator going back to the 80's where he was one of the co-creators of Cry for Dawn, arguably the biggest indie comics horror anthology in it's day. A few years back Joe lost his eyesight to complications from his diabetes. Youch. But there's not stopping this guy, not even for an impromptu sword fight with a sighted martial arts instructor at an anime convention. Must been seen to be believed.
