Hummingbird Bander Goes to Work in a Washington Backyard
from KUOW News Podcast August 05, 2008
Hold a penny in your hand. That's about how much a hummingbird weighs. Every summer, hundreds of the tiny birds gather in a backyard just outside of Walla Walla, Washington. It's like a truck stop on their migration to Mexico. It's a great spot for Ned Batchelder. He's been trapping and banding the hummers for about eight years. The bands help scientists track hummingbirds' migratory patterns. So far Batchelder has banded about 20 thousand of the tiny creatures with his wife Gigi. We caught up with him recently. Here's Ned's story in his own words.

Your Story Addendum Ep 7 : Off to Swidwin, Poland.
from Your Story : How We Play the Game of Life July 21, 2008
My surname is Kath pronounced in the Germanic languages I ve been told recently here as Kat with a short sharp T . I ve also found out that the Germans would automatically spell it with a K unlike most Australians, as my family have found want to spell it with a C . They should know, as this is the part of the world that this name comes from. I have Prussian heritage on the side of my family that the Kath name originates from and even though I m seven eights British it is my surname that is the one eight. So while I m here I have a small opportunity to explore my heritage. So three friends and I we went to Swidwin originally named Shievelbein in the days of Prussia but is now part of Poland to see where in the middle 19 century my ancestor Eduard(57) s a tiny village and we had limited time. They travelled from Europe in 1884 to settle at Glenco on the Darling Downs about 150 km west of Brisbane. Sadly from the information I have, old Eduard died within a year. We had a look around and here are a few images of the area including a quick trip to the Baltic Sea coast to relax before driving back to Berlin late in the early morning. There are more images on my flickr page linked on the left.

Casey Kauffman reports from Mali, where many Africans prefer to live in the squalid conditions of so-called ghettos, rather than return home. The Coming of the Wildebeest
from Vimeo / Recent Public Videos July 03, 2008
The Coming of the Wildebeest from Joseph Kimojino on Vimeo. This morning near Mara Bridge we could see many many wildebeest covering the hills in the Tanzanian Serengeti. They have been gathering for the last few days and their number now is very large. The Sand River is very shallow with no crocodiles at this point, but for some reason they do not cross yet. Instead they just come down to the river to drink. Cast: Joseph Kimojino

Catharsis
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) June 10, 2008
This video is first of the works among my new video-creation line "Recording". I have made serial videos with my identity of only being recorder and maker in this line. Catharsis (05:25 min.; 2008; Stockholm) Gamla Stan is the center area of Stockholm. Oldest and more touristic zone of the city. Other side of the Gamla Stan subway station is seeing inland sea, have a nice panorama but trashy... When I recorded some scenes at this area a few young men which were high came up to me and wanted to do "rap" in front of my camera. I said: "Okay!" and recorded them. I was only a recorder and a witness. All big metropols in Europa need this kind of purifications. Immigrants could help. I m sure.
