The Chapman s have been speaking and writing about family life for over 25 years and now have two grown children, Nathan and Heidi. Their music, books and seminars have helped scores of parents fulfill their most important mission in life, passing the baton of faith to their children. Annie has joined us on the broadcast before when we talked about her book, A Woman s Answer to Anger. And today she is back with her husband Steve to talk about two other books they have written, Ten Things I Want My Son To Know, and Ten Things I Want My Daughter To Know. Annie says, For me there are three choices that I believe determine our destination in life. First we must help our children to choose heaven. As a mother I wanted to make sure my daughter understood the blessed gift God had provided through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. As Heidi was growing up we often spoke about what it meant to be a follower of Christ and when she was five she accepted Jesus as her personal savior. Second I want my daughter to choose happiness. Joy and contentment are born out of an attitude that is grown from the inside and shows on the outside. It is true that circumstances can make us feel helpless, but happiness is always a choice. And finally I want my daughter to choose health. Here s a bit of wisdom I have shared with Heidi throughout her life: Don t let anything you can change limit your life. Steve says, Probably the most sobering responsibility of a father is the realization that as a father you are a builder. When Nathan was born I was keenly aware that God had placed into my care the smallest, most innocent, and most impressionable of His creation. And even more serious, the hour would someday come when He would call the child back to Himself and divinely assess his condition. I knew that if my son reached his adult years, how he used his free will would have the greatest bearing on God s final determination of his soul. Today, the impact of so many claims on a person s time and endeavors steal away from the time needed to assess the condition of your soul. That s why I love to spend so much time out-of-doors. HOUSTON -- Marche Taylor's prom night experience wasn't what you would call the norm. That's because instead of a night of dancing and hanging out with friends, the Madison High School senior ended in a confrontation with school officials and her being escorted out in handcuffs. All because school officials said her dress was inappropriate for the school prom. I actually like the dress. Everybody else likes my dress, Taylor said of her custom-made dress as she showed it off Friday afternoon. Madison High's prom took place at the Sugar Land Marriot. But Taylor only got as far as the lobby because when she tried to enter the ballroom an official stopped her. She was told her dress violated a school dress code. She shook her head, she was like you are not getting into this prom, said Taylor. We were arguing back and forth because I wanted to know why I can't get into my prom. Even after offering to provide more cover, Taylor was still denied access to the final soiree of the school year. At that point, Taylor said she was furious. After all this was her senior prom. She argued if she couldn't get in, she wanted her money back. Things got so bad, the next thing she knew, someone had called the police. Officers showed up, handcuffed her and escorted her out. A photographer snapped a photo of Taylor in handcuffs, being led out of the hotel. Madison High School Principal Aubrey Taylor said says the dress was inappropriate and violated the rules. It was revealing in such nature it was not appropriate for the prom, said Taylor, who stood by the school official who denied Taylor access to the event. And while she regrets how things turned out, Taylor thinks she had little choice. They didn't give me any options, but to go to jail or go home, she said.
