Linguistics, I make some very obvious mistakes in my Japanese and the fellow even calls my Japanese broken - this is when they really are talking to you thank goodness, if I was still hearing something like I would probably get a big L tattooed across my forehead. We ended up talking for a good 40 minutes. This is was recorded in Kurume, I was out on a Friday - the weather has been great Anyhow the Yakiimo song is perhaps one of the staple sounds I will carry in my mind til I am six feet under I will post part two in a week or so. From : Bicycle Sidewalk
I think we all have dreams that our life would be more interesting if we only lived somewhere else - hmmmm - take a step back, there are plenty of folks who are happy right where they are. Pause. Take a step forward, look at where you are and where you are going - From my experience the dream of living elsewhere is sometimes more vivid and real than the actually reality. Everything is relative to where you spin on the earth. Music: Tift Merritt Enjoy

From : Japan Visitor Blog - Tokyo Osaka Nagoya Kyoto
Major League Baseball created a lot of buzz in Japan when it opened its 2008 season in Tokyo with two games between the World Series champion Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics on March 25 and 26. The teams split the series, Boston winning a dramatic encounter on opening day 6-5 in 10 innings and the A’s holding on to win Game 2 by a score of 5-1. Both games were played at Tokyo Dome. Former Seibu Lion right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka became just the second Japanese native to start a season opener following Hideo Nomo, who did it three times, once for the Detroit Tigers in 2000 and twice for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2003-2004). Matsuzaka was also making his first appearance in Japan since joining Boston for 51 million dollars at the end of the 2006 season. Dice-K, as he is known stateside, went 15-12 with a 4.40 ERA in his rookie MLB season and topped that off with a World Series ring. Matsuzaka’s homecoming was a bit of a letdown, however, as he struggled with his control early on and was yanked after five innings to avoid burnout later in the season. “I didn’t feel that anxious in the early part of the game but I think I was overly cautious because of my tendency to start slow. From my next start on I’d like to be just a little more assertive, especially in the early innings.” Matsuzaka said afterward, adding that he didn’t approach the game any differently that he normally does. “But given the opportunity to start on Opening Day I did feel a little nervous and excited and that may have shown a little bit. But comparing it to my first start last season I felt that I was able to approach it in the same way.” Dice-K left the game with a 3-2 lead but the win eventually was awarded to compatriot Hideki Okajima, who has blossomed into one of the Major League’s best relievers. Okajima struck out one and walked one in a scoreless ninth inning before Manny Ramirez rapped his second two-run double of the game in the top of the 10th to clinch the victory. "It was an amazing feeling going out there and seeing all those flashbulbs. It was more like a retirement ceremony than a regular game,” said Okajima, before he too admitted to feeling butterflies. “I was a bit nervous taking the mound after being away for so long." Okajima struck out 63 in 69 innings last season. He was 3-2 with a 2.22 ERA. Canadian Rich Harden stole the show on Wednesday, holding Boston to three hits and one run over six innings and striking out nine for the win. “Rich showed tonight against the world champions how good he is and how much we need him,” A’s manager Bob Geren said of the pitcher, whose been riddled with injuries the last few seasons. “I'm just pleased with his health. His entire spring training went perfectly, with no health issues. “Tonight he pitched like we knew he could. So we’re hoping for 30-plus more of these.” Emil Brown provided the offense with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third. Both games were considered home games for Oakland, despite a demonstrably pro Boston atmosphere at Tokyo Dome. From : Bicycle Sidewalk
Well, this is a really short but (I think) has a one tiny artistic moment - I like the twig moment - it seems the music lines up with the sky and the small jutted twigs just right for only a split second or two anyhow, this footage was taken at the base of Kabuto-yama in Kurume City, I am considering tagging my posts with a Google Earth file so you can get a better idea of where I am coming from, but as for now - if you really want to know - open Google Earth and search for Fukuoka, Kurume - I live near the Chikugo River The song is by John Frusciante. I am currently in Taiwan - today I imagine I will take my camera out into Taipei I have taken some great photos and will probably throw something together when I return to Japan. As for now - nothing much else to report enjoy the video!

 From : Bicycle Sidewalk
Well, it has been over a month since I have made a video. This is something I threw together over the weekend. As you can see - I really threw this one together I recently moved back to Kurume and I am in the process of unpacking and setting up the new apartment. I didn t use my normal green background, this video was made with only the mild green background of a bare wall in my apartment - as much as I tweaked it - I could not clean it up oh well, it is not the end of the world. This video is about 7 minutes long. I walk you through a ramen joint and then later at night in Fukuoka City - they are cleaning up after a long night s work at a food stall. I plan to start making more videos this spring - if there is anything you would like to see or hear about in Kyushu drop me a comment or an email. Enjoy!

 From : Bicycle Sidewalk
Well here are some pictures I took a couple days ago. These were taken in the afternoon on a warm December day. It has been comparatively warm this month, however today there was a steep down in temperature and it even began to snow. Japan, a country of many extremes, weather included. Over the last couple months I have not posted as many videos as I did this time last year, I have been spending time on other things, such as studying Chinese, work related stuff, some translation stuff, and other school stuff however my motivation or inspiration to share moments of Japan is still there, hopefully 2008 will be an even better year for video on the net. Here are the pics! Enjoy. src='http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/KonaLibInline.js'>

From : Japan Visitor Blog - Tokyo Osaka Nagoya Kyoto
フェザーミュジアム Listen to the sounds of the Feather Museum Japan has some bizarre and quirky museums: a sex museum, a ninja museum and even a sand museum. The Feather Museum in Seki, north of Inuyama in Gifu Prefecture, has nothing to do with feathers or birds. The museum is sponsored by the Feather Company that makes razors, shaving and hairdressing equipment as well as surgical scalpels. The whole area of Seki is known as one of Japan's top locations for the manufacture of high quality steel knives, swords and blades. Sword-making in the area began in the Kamakura Period (1192-1333) and has been going strong ever since. The modern, two-storey Feather Museum - a "razor memorial facility" - is dedicated to the history of shaving, beards and hairdressing both in Japan and the rest of the world. There are interesting dioramas and computer-generated exhibits on men's and women's shaving through the ages, a collection of razors and razor blades from around the world, recreations of historical barber shops, a section on mirrors, a children's play area and even a free shaving corner where the visitor can try out Feather's products. Feather Museum 1-17, Hinode-cho, Seki-shi, Gifu 501-3873 Tel: 0575 22 1923 9.30am-4pm (last entry) Closed Tuesday Free admission feather.co.jp Access The Feather Museum is a 5-minute walk from Hamanokaikanmae Station on the Nagaragawa Line from Minoota. Minoota is accessible from Nagoya Station. Take the JR Chuo Honsen Line to Tajimi (41 minutes), then the JR Ota Line to Mino-Ota (29 minutes), then the Nagaragawa Line to Hamanokaikanmae Station (20 minutes). The Nagaragawa Line continues on to Gujo Hachiman. Alternatively, take a JR train from Nagoya to Gifu and change there for Minoota. The nearest Meitetsu Line station is Seki on the Minomachi Line which connects with the Nagaragawa Line. Seki is one stop north of Hamanokaikanmae. From : Bicycle Sidewalk
I recently finished a DVD project for a friend. I don t have time to go into the details, however the main theme was, in a word - environment This video came to me quickly, it is kinda loose, (well really loose) however it works for me - like ticker-tape spinning out of my conscience - Enjoy. Music by Alexi Murdoch Ahh by the way, since the upgrade to Leopard my old video compress mix doesn t work anymore this video was compressed using Apple s H.264 codec let me know if you are having problems watching this video. I will try and fix the old codec asap. Ahhh I will fix this later tonight there is an offline media box at the end of the video no need to watch after the www.bicycl-sidewalk.com and the ad roll over sorry bout that.
