Stadium Escalators
from YouTube :: Tag // superbowl August 19, 2008
Riding the escalators at the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Downtown Indianapolis. It is the home of the NFL Indianapolis Colts, 2006 Super Bowl Champions! It will be host to the 2012 Super Bowl. The stadium seats over 63,000 for football, and because it has a retractable roof and windows, it is very versatile - able to host many different events throughout the year. It replaces the 25-year old RCA Dome, which will be replaced with an expansion of the Indiana Convention Center. You will notice ONE type of escalator: the latest KONE model with glass balustrades, brand new! The music is "The Spider" by Kansas, on their terrific "Point of Know Return" album. Friday Night Blues and Beer #120
from Friday Night Blues August 15, 2008
5-4-3-2-1.. I m on vacation! The Beer: Say hello to the award winning Red Seal Ale from the North Coast Brewing Company in Fort Bragg, California. She pours a beautiful golden-amber with a big thick head that slips down into a glass covering lace. Spicy hops and herbs on the nose. An awesome sample of an American west coast brew in the lines of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (not to be confused with the slop Saskatchewan people drink). Lots of hoppy tones baby with roasted grains and caramel and a bitter citrus followup. Awesome! Contains 5.5% alcohol and ran me around $15 Canadian for a six. Two massive thumbs up but as always get a second opinion. The Blues: Lots of sexy hot blues divas on the show tonight but that don t mean they don t have it going on. You couple husk and sultry with grinding guitars and you get yourself a little something special. Let s get it on:The Playlist: Big Mike Griffin (You Wouldn t Understand), Debbie Davies (Trying To Keep It Real), Ann Peebles (I Pity The Fool), Angela Brown m A Fool For You), Tony Joe White (As the Crow Flies), Shemekia Copeland (Should Have Come Home), Sonny Boy Williamson (Don t Lose Your Eye), Jerry Ricks (I Will Turn Your Money Green), Sonny Moorman t Worried No More), Mojo Watson (Hey Little Girl), Kenny Wayne Shepherd (Born with a Broken Heart), and Jan James (Satisfy Me).Lyrical highlight:They say look to the future, but sometimes you gotta look back.To see just where you ve been, and keep yourself on track.See you inside! 081508_FridayNightBlues{/mp3} 1:11:29 32.7 MB Friday Links: Subscribe | A big thank you to M.C. Dr. David D. Perlmutter, author of Blog Wars
from Third Rail's Podcast August 13, 2008
David D. Perlmutter is a professor at the William Allen White School of Journalism Visions of War: Picturing Warfare from the Stone Age to the Cyberage (St. Martin's, 1999); (ed.) The Manship School Guide to Political Communication (LSU Press, 1999); Policing the Media: Street Cops and Public Perceptions of Law Enforcement (Sage, 2000); Picturing China in the American Press: The Visual Portrayal of Sino-American Relations in Time Magazine, 1949-1973 (Rowman (ed., with John Hamilton) From Pigeons to News Portals: Foreign Reporting and the Challenge of New Technology (LSU Press, 2007), and Blogwars: The New Political Battleground (Oxford, 2008) . He has also written several dozen research articles for academic journals as well as over 150 essays for U.S. and international newspapers and magazines. He writes a regular column, P for the Chronicle of Higher Education. He has been interviewed by most major news networks and newspapers, from the New York Times to CNN and ABC and most recently, The Daily Show. He is editor of the blog of the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas (http://www.doleinstituteblog.org/) and his own blog about online politics, http://policybyblog.squarespace.com/. Political blogs have grown astronomically in the last half-decade. In just one month in 2005, for example, popular blog DailyKos received more unique visitors than the population of Iowa and New Hampshire combined. But how much political impact do bloggers really have? In Blogwars , David D. Perlmutter examines this rapidly burgeoning phenomenon, exploring the degree to which blogs influence--or fail to influence--American political life. Challenging the hype, Perlmutter points out that blogs are not that powerful by traditional political measures: while bloggers can offer cogent and convincing arguments and bring before their readers information not readily available elsewhere, they have no financial, moral, social, or cultural leverage to compel readers to engage in any particular political behavior. Indeed, blogs have scored mixed results in their past political crusades. But in the end, Perlmutter argues that blogs, in their wide dissemination of information and opinions, actually serve to improve democracy and enrich political culture. He highlights a number of the particularly noteworthy blogs from the specialty to the superblog-including popular sites such as Daily Kos, The Huffington Post, Powerlineblog, Instapundit, and Talking Points Memo--and shows how blogs are becoming part of the tool kit of political professionals, from presidential candidates to advertising consultants. While the political future may be uncertain, it will not be unblogged. For many Internet users, blogs are the news and editorial sites of record, replacing traditional newspapers, magazines, and television news programs. Blogwars offers the first full examination of this new and controversial force on America's political landscape.

Thomas Frank: How Conservatives Rule
from The Conversation Podcast August 11, 2008
Thomas Frank wrote in What's the Matter with Kansas that Americans go against their own economic interests when they vote Republican. Frank's new book is The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Rule. He says the political fund raising apparatus set up by Jack Abramoff in the 1980s has put in place a conservative government intent on wrecking government. Also today, we'll find out why the Seattle Public Schools' program for students learning English was ranked among the weakest in the nation. Plus, a former power company executive says we should investigate whether excessive speculation is driving up the price of oil.
