OAS 179 The Pyramid Texts of Omm Sety with Dr. Merlinda Arnold Part 1
from Omni Art Salon 21st Century Art Podcast July 08, 2008
Jeffrey has an incredible conversation with Dr. Merlinda Arnold, an interfaith minister, psychotherapist, choreographer, and change agent recognized for the lectures and workshops she has presented internationally over the past twenty-five years to promote wholeness and peace. Dr. Arnold is also the and executive director of Sacred Way connecting ancient wisdom with contemporary insights which also produces guided tours of sacred sites worldwide. As an expert in depth psychology, world religion, mythology, and cultural anthropology, Dr. Arnold has worked with prominent scholars such as James Hillman, Joseph Campbell, Marija Gimbutas, and Matthew Fox. Dr. Arnold served as The New Seminary’s american representative in Israel during the intifada of the late 1980s and early 1990s and has led women’s groups in Egypt, Greece, and Crete, as well as throughout Europe and the Americas, to explore ancient feminine mystery rites. Her art and dance workshop program, “The Mystery Quest,” uses as a therapeutic tool a replica of the Phaestos Disk from Crete dating to 1700 BC. In addition Dr. Arnold served as New Mexico events director for the presidential campaigns of Dennis Kucinich and John Kerry, led a pro bono group for murder victims’ families opposing the death penalty, and participated in several international relief efforts, including the 2005 Tsunami Response. She also co-founded Unity in Action, a nonpartisan political organization committed to uncovering common core beliefs to foster connections among people with different political views. Dr. Arnold is the author of The Book of Grace: On the Missing Scroll of Light, as well as two other titles: Omm Sety Remembered and The Fertile Crescent Revisited: Awakening the Buried Feminine to Heal Trauma. She also produced the DVD Dancing on the Milky Way I, which was featured at the 2006 New Mexico Film Guild Festival. We last spoke with Dr. Arnold last summer about her very special role as the guardian of the Om Sety manuscripts. Since that time Dr. Arnold has been to sacred sites throughout Europe, last fall focusing on a trip to the Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland. Recently she has has accomplished a great deal of research regarding the Pyramid Texts and the sacred areas of Abydos as they relate to the revelations in the Omm Sety manuscripts. This is a very special conversation and it will be presented in 3 parts because of the detail and broad based nature of it’s content. I’m sure you will find it as fascinating and eye opening as I did, and you will come away with a greater understanding of the Egyptian mystery schools and their historical underpinnings and how they relate to astrology, the development of western civilization and conscious human evolution. I also think these conversations will contribute to your understanding of the historical development of metaphysics as we know it today. iJustine on 'lifecasting'
from Real People July 07, 2008
iJustine from JD Lasica on Vimeo. At the first meeting of Intel Insiders at Intel HQ in San Jose the other day, I finally had the chance to meet Justine Ezarik, better known by her online handle, iJustine. She gained instant Internet fame (she now has thousands of friends on Facebook and Twitter) when she began "lifecasting" her life 24/7. Yep, wore a webcam, just like Justin Kan of justin.tv. She has no regrets (turned her into an Internet celebrity) but wouldn't do it again. In this brief 4-minute video she talks about the downsides of total transparency, and about her upcoming new Internet TV show, The Really Big Internet Show. Here's a recent announcement about the show with another photo of Justine. For more, read her blog at Tastyblogsnack. How to Get Noticed in Job Market 2.0
from Bigg Success July 07, 2008
Today on The Bigg Success Show, we welcomed Phil Rosenberg. Phil is the founder of reCareered, a career coaching service that helps job searchers get past the biggest challenge in today s competitive jobs market to get noticed. Phil, what does reCareered mean? It means someone who is seeking a job change, or trying to revitalize their career, or someone who is between jobs and wants help with how the job markets have changed in the last eight years or so. How has the job market changed? Eight years ago, the majority of resumes were delivered on paper. Around 2000, it changed to where most resumes were delivered digitally. And how does that change the resume itself? It changes it completely. The paper-based resume had to be static. The only way to customize it was by a cover letter. A digital resume can be searched. It also increased the number of resumes that went into most companies, by as many as ten-fold. We always hear about search engine optimization and how you want to rank at the tops of the pages for Google. But apparently you can do the same for your resume it can be optimized? You bet, and it s especially critical in today s world. Most major employers get thousands of resumes for each job, but they only staff to look at twenty to thirty. That s two to three percent. So your goal, in submitting your resume today, is getting to the top two or three percent. Through resume search optimization, you can manage that process rather than have it be random. My strategy with my clients is to make a resume a single-use document to have it infinitely customizable so that you re gaming the search engine and forcing it higher up the search page. How do we make a good impression right upfront? There s been research from the University of Toledo and Stanford University that states that interview decisions are made within the first two to thirty seconds. That blew me away. The rest of the interview is just somebody justifying their initial decision. So it s a gut feel decision that may occur even before you shake hands. It s all about preparation. Learn about your client how they communicate (verbally and non-verbally), how they dress, how they look. If you want a job, go to a place that s close to their office and sit there during lunch. Talk to people from that company who are getting lunch there. On a Friday night, go to Happy Hour at a bar close to their office and talk to people from that company. When you talk to them, watch their body movements. What s the tone they use? What s the speed they use to talk? You can also do that with their written communication their web site, annual reports, press releases. The key to all this is communicating to your audience that it seems like you already work there. It reminds me of the book, Guerilla Selling. It s all about learning about your customer, in that case, but in the case the employer you re going after getting as much information as you can, wherever you can. It s amazing how much information you can gather. Sure. That s also an effective way to use LinkedIn, Facebook or your own personal network. Chances are you have contacts within that company. A lot of people only use those contacts to see what jobs are available and to ask them to pass their resume along. They leave out some of the greatest uses of a network talking to people within an organization to find out what an organization is like and what the communication style is like. Listening for how they re answering questions rather than just what they re saying. This is fantastic advice because you do want to fit in. It s all about mimicking. When you re at an interview, should you sit up straight and lean forward or should you try to have your body language be similar to the body language of the interviewer? From what I ve read, you should try to mimic that person. That s exactly what you re doing it s called mirroring. You re trying to show that you fit in. You speak the same language. You re really trying to act like you already work at the company. It takes a ton of preparation. A lot of people aren t willing to put that preparation in, but the people who do get a huge, almost an unfair, advantage. Miro's a cool application that lets you watch and subscribe to millions of channels of content created by us (any video with an RSS feed, for example). You can browse through more than 4,000 channels in its directory listing. I've been using Miro for almost two years now (free, open source, what's not to like?). The Tragedy of American Compassion - Marvin Olasky on SBE
from Steve Brown Etc. July 04, 2008
Dr. Marvin Olasky joins us on this edition of Steve Brown Etc. to discuss his book, The Tragedy of American Compassion. Use one of the options below to listen. Bill Bennett once called The Tragedy of American Compassion “the most important book on welfare and social policy in a decade. Period.” It influenced the Clinton Administration’s welfare reform and deeply affected George W. Bush’s policies. But with the war on terror, the ideas in The Tragedy of American Compassion have taken a backseat. Don t miss this conversation with Steve Brown and one of his heroes as they look at the problem of modern welfare not its cost but its stinginess in offering the true necessities: challenging, personal, and spiritual aid rather than entitlement and bureaucracy. Dr. Olasky is editor-in-chief of World magazine, provost of The King s College in New York, and author of a bunch of books.

FOFA #712 - Your Gay Doctor - 07.04.08
from Feast of Fools : Gay Fun Show July 04, 2008
Gay men are living longer than ever and we need to make sure we continue to keep the healthy bodies we ve enjoyed in our younger years. After all, life doesn t end at forty. On today s show we re talking to Dr. Frank Spinelli, your gay doctor about his brand new book The Advocate Guide to Gay Men s Health and Wellness. Dr. Frank joins us to talk about why some gay men abuse drugs, transmit sexual diseases and how to keep romance hot well into your golden years. Dr. Frank says one of the most important things you can do with your doctor is to come out as a gay man. Simply say Doctor, I m gay. But for many of us, we shy away from doing that because we fear being judged or worse, being looked at as a freak because we don t necessarily share the same sexual orientation as our doctor. Thankfully, Dr. Frank is gay and fabulous! You can check out his MySpace page here. Listen up folks, this podcast just might save your life! The Advocate Guide to Gay Men s Health and Wellness is a fabulous book that covers all the questions you may want to ask your doctor. It makes a great beside or bathroom book. I believe that the single most important thing to improve the sexual health of all people in America is for the next President to push in congress a Universal Health Care plan for all people. The reality is that too many people living in the U.S. wait to the last minute to see a doctor because they simply cannot afford it. I can only imagine the lives that would be saved and the improvement in transmission rates of all sexually transmitted diseases if we all had the same access to health care that almost all western nations enjoy. For many of Americans, access to adequate health care is sketchy at best and I urge you to get Dr. Frank s book (it s $22 on Amazon) to educate yourself about the perils we face as gay men and also about some of the rewards and pleasures we ve worked so hard to enjoy. That being said, I urge you to save up and go see a doctor. There are many clinics in most urban areas that offer services on a sliding scale.
