Behind the scenes look at the process leading up to the Chiefs draft.

The Herm Edwards Youth Football Camp, presented by First National Bank, was held in Kansas City for the first time on May 19th and May 20th at the Chiefs Practice Facility. Utilizing over 150 volunteer coaches and various other volunteers, members of the Chiefs coaching staff and Chiefs players provided instruction about football and more importantly, the skills necessary to become winners in the game of life. During the course of the camp, Edwards shared seven core concepts with the over 1,100 campers and spoke on their importance both in life and on the football field ? Expectations, Priorities, Commitment, Choices, Integrity, Teamwork and Sportsmanship.

HERM EDWARDS: Yes, the rookie mini-camp is in the books. I thought it was much more organized than last year in that the coaches were more familiar in what we want to do and the players were very attentive. They tried to do what we asked them to do. We made it very simple and I thought that was the key. I thought the tempo of every practice was very good.

Q: How was practice? HERM EDWARDS: I thought it was good. I thought we were a lot further ahead this year than we were last year. We ran a little passing camp. The linemen were here and involved in the walk-through and lifted weights early. They do conditioning toward the middle part of practice. Were just trying to throw the ball and defend the pass. Its good for our passing game and were going to do this for the next three OTAs and really wont start whole team exercises until the mini-camp. But I think we were a lot further along and it helps when you have your staff back. Were doing some new things.
