SELEKTOR: DJ Morsy + Kestar - Crooked Disco Vol 1
from subdrive - underground electronic culture July 01, 2008
I've been trying to get Morsy to send us a mix for a while now and we finally got his new Crooked Disco mix he did with Kestar! Brooklyn's own DJ Morsy has been killing it with Nanachill releasing mixtapes and is notorious around these parts for throwing some awesome parties, Crooked Disco included. So with that in mind, enjoy this banging set of wobbly-bass "cosmic" electro with some hip-hop thrown in for good measure. Don't forget to stop by myspace and drop Morsy, Kestar, and Crooked Disco some love! Shiloh - BBoy Mathematix
from subdrive - underground electronic culture June 21, 2008
My boy Shiloh sent us this amazing track today, a re-edit of Danger's 19h11 with his rhymes layered on top. The original on it's own is an excellent track but with Shiloh's cut the track has a whole new energy and potential as one of this summer's bangers. Be sure to download the track and give him and Danger some love on their myspaces. Shiloh - BBoy Mathematix

SKEET SKEET - April/May Mix
from subdrive - underground electronic culture June 13, 2008
I haven't had the chance of seeing LA's SKEET SKEET DJ here in New York yet, but hopefully will soon. Skeet Skeet, aka Trevor, remixes, produces and throws on the jams mixing stuff like hard electro with pop and flipping it to remixes of old-school tracks. He's currently Djing on the Warped Tour this summer and is popping up everywhere including your home town. We've got him confirmed for an upcoming Selektor mix, but until then, download his April/May Mix and throw it on at your next party. Oh and be sure to check out his blog, Eat Skeet! Skeet Skeet - April/May Mix TRACKLISTING: Goldielocks - Kids [Goldie is my favorite MSN buddy for sure, i’m gonna make sure she comes to the states soon] MGMT - Kids Ep Version [This is the version Nick Panama was raving to me about when they were signed to his label] Acid Girls - Palms [Two of my favorite dudes wrote a brilliant song here, and just wait till you get to hear the version with frankmusik on vocals… epic] Sebastien Tellier - Divine (ocelot + Bird peterson remix) [Two great producers take on an already brilliant track and kill it] The Presets - This Boys in Love (Lifelike RMX) [So Beautiful] Katy Perry - I kissed a girl (Switch Remix) [ I could only post a snippet, but you get the idea. You’ll have to come see me live to hear the whole thing] Katy Perry - Hot N’ Cold [My remix should be done this week, ohhh shit] Muscles - Hey Muscles I Love You [Best Chorus EVER] Fake blood - Mars [BANGER] Fake Blood - Fake Blood Theme [Fake Blood Banger #2] Young MC - Bust a Move (Don Rimini Rmx) [DR Killed this Remix. These Electric Lives - We Should Be Believing (Sta Remix)
from subdrive - underground electronic culture May 30, 2008
Got this in the mail the other day from Toronto-based band These Electric Lives. Their track We Should Be Believing, taken from their upcoming remix album called "TEL Remixed", got the remix treatment from our favorite Canadian Dj/producer Sta and its a gem of electro pop-rock goodness. It's a great summer track to get those indie-rock kids chanting in the middle of the DJ set. Buy their debut EP on iTunes or eMusic. These Electric Lives - We Should Be Believing (Sta Remix)

Ellen Allien's "Sool" a Let Down
from subdrive - underground electronic culture May 30, 2008
This Tuesday, Ellen Allien relased her fourth album, "Sool". Although it is an electronic album, it is not exactly what you would expect from this German Goddess of DJing. It is an extremely dark and minimalist journey ranging from songs consisting of street and diner background sounds with barely any beat or instrumental music ("Einsteigen"), to songs with disparate vocals and weird whistling tones ("Elphine"), to tracks with pulsating bass and space noises ("Its"). This is by no means a dance album. You won't be hearing this in a club any time soon. For those fans of her earlier work and her collaboration with Apparat, this will be a huge disappointment. It seems that she is trying to create an album of soundscapes. Although each track does transport the listener to a unique atmosphere of sound and, I hesitate to say it, music, I'm not sure that it accomplishes anything. Truly successful albums of this kind carry listeners to another world and manipulate their emotional state. "Sool" fails to affect the listeners emotions in any way other than perhaps, at best, slight boredom and, at worst, minor irritation. Although there is nothing outright bad about this album, it is certainly more of an acquired taste even for veterans of the electronic music scene. 2 Stars (Out of 5) Hear Ellen Allien - Its taken from "Sool". Buy it on iTunes or Amazon.

Funkabit - Cardigan (French Buffalo Remix)
from subdrive - underground electronic culture May 14, 2008
I got this a few days ago in the mail, great remix. The original is great on its own but the French Buffalo remix makes it a more-club friendly hard and bassy track to throw on. The EP comes with two other remixes by Amari and Calcutta Bubbles. Out now on Mozarella Recordings, pick up the whole EP in high quality at Beatport and Dj Download. Justice - Stress (VIDEO)
from subdrive - underground electronic culture May 02, 2008
Probably one of the most blogged about, awarded, booked, and overplayed artists of 2007 and 2008, Justice are on top of everything. You can't ignore their excellent debut album †, or the equally awesome music videos that they've made for each of the singles. This is one of those great videos. Unlike D.A.N.C.E. and DVNO which were aimed to be radio-friendly, infectious, club hits...STRESS is a straight up guerilla-style documentary following a crazy gang rocking † jackets. They're trashing everything in sight, including radios that pump out Justice's own D.A.N.C.E. I hope Justice release a DVD compilation of all their music videos...they're just too good to missed. Subscribe to the podcast to get the full-on HD version! Directed by Romain-Gavras.

REWINDW/ CUT NYC 3-Year Anniversary - Institubes Paris Terror Club
from subdrive - underground electronic culture April 25, 2008
Today we're starting a new feature on Subdrive called REWINDW/. You'll be seeing interviews with DJs, producers, designers, promoters, etc. The first is about Cut NYC's 3-year anniversary from a few weeks ago. Shark and The Captain were cool enough to let us come in and film the party and talk to them about how Cut came to be. As a bonus you'll hear from Para One, Surkin, and Bobmo of Institubes talking about life, music, and...Bob Marley? The interviews were so good I'm posting all three as separate videos over the next week. So here's the first part of the CUT NYC 3-year anniversary, it's a sit down with Shark of CUT discussing the party, the scene, and other things. If you're subscribed on the podcast you should receive all the videos automagically. View photos from the party here.

Elika - Nowhere
from subdrive - underground electronic culture April 22, 2008
Got some stuff the other night from Brooklyn's own Elika. It's different from all the heavy club stuff I normally mention on the site, but that's a very good thing. The duo, Evagelia Maraveliasis and Brian Wenckebach, are best described as a mix of ambient-rock-vocal-electronic. It really makes me think of a meeting of Ulrich Schnauss, Madonna's singing, and a bit of Ladytron for good measure. It works; Evagelia's wonderfully lush vocals and the minimal soundscape with crunching guitars is a great sound to just listen and let your mind flow to. Check out "Nowhere" from their debut album, Trying To Get Us Nowhere. Be sure to also check out "The Whip" on their myspace. Elika - Nowhere Buy Trying To Get Us Nowhere on iTunes

Kap10Kurt - Dangerseekers (VIDEO)
from subdrive - underground electronic culture March 01, 2008
Yes, I've been on more of a video tip...but there is a reason folks! You can now get all the music videos posted here on the podcast. Which means that if you have, for example, iTunes, it's an automatic download and will drop into your iPhone, iTouch/iPod. A design group called The Holograms did this great video for Kap10Kurt's single Dangerseekers. It's a mix of sharp geometric style, 80's nostalgia, and anime. Kap10Kurt has remixed the likes of Dave Gahan, The Bravery, and Moby under the name k10k, but mainly does a live show using the Kap10Kurt moniker. He (or they I assume from the press photos) will be performing around Europe and Japan later this year. Check out their myspace for dates! Directed by The Holograms.

Heartsrevolution - C.Y.O.A. (VIDEO)
from subdrive - underground electronic culture February 28, 2008
Heartsrevolution is from the woman that started Heartschallenger, a crazy ice cream truck that pumps out electronic music and sells imported Japanese candies. You might have seen it all over the states outside parties, events, and even in Europe. Since then Leyla Safai and her partner in crime have been fine tuning their electro tunes under the name Heartsrevolution. They're coming out with a new EP and their first single, C.Y.O.A., or Choose Your Own Adventure, has a remix compilation coming out on I HEART COMIX. The comp has remixes from Lazaro Casanova, Brodinski, Lauren Flax, CFCF, and Dan O. Here's the video for C.Y.O.A. Directed by Jean Demery & Bastien Lattanzio.

Luckily there are several awesome parties on Halloween here in the city. So get your costumes and get ready to dance! SELEKTOR: Noisia - Division Promo Mix BBC 1
from subdrive - underground electronic culture December 07, 2007
My, my, how things change in less than a year. We used to focus mostly on drum 'n bass here on Subdrive and slowly shifted over to more dance-floor friendly stuff. It seems a lot of DJs and producers in the dnb scene are doing the same either by going electro or doing dubstep (like our boy Claw). Noisia has done something of the same. They came out blazing crazy mind-melting dnb tunes and have now actually done very well producing some top-notch electro/breakbeat bangers like Yellow Brick and Raar. This here's a mix they did for BBC 1 which actually has those tracks and several other electro-flavored tunes. Enjoy! TRACKLISTING 1. Does it Offend You, Yeah? - Weird Science 2. Noisia - Unfinished 3. Uffie & Oizo - Hot Chick 4. Noisia - Yellow Brick 5. Robbie Williams - Bongo Bong (Noisia Remix) 6. Noisia - Unfinished 7. Noisia - Hairy Anchor (Part 1) 8. Noisia - Hairy Anchor (Part 2) 9. Hustle Athletics aka Noisia - Lekker 10. Noisia - Raar 11. Sebastian - Ross Ross Ross 12. Noisia - Gutterpump 13. Noisia - Seven Stitches 14. Tasha Baxter - The Visitor 15. Noisia - Square Feet
