He inspired me to check out some of the bowling apps available for the iPhone. I have mixed reviews on them, but there is one that truly stands out above the rest. Let s take a look at the ones I reviewed. 300 Bowl - I bought this one, because the price had been lowered to 99 cents. My only reaction when playing it was wow. I just wasted 99 cents . Don t bother. It s not worth your time. iBowl - It s a much different dynamic than 300 Bowl, and it s free! You touch something on the iPhone screen, and flick your wrist to roll the ball down the lane. It was ok, for being free. It wasn t bad but not something I d really play much. Flick Bowling - This app is $5.00. I was worried about buying it, and wasting the money. I checked out the screenshots and such, and decided to give it a whirl. Users can select from six different players, different balls, and tiered skill levels. The game uses the phone s touch screen for input. Finger flicks control the shot line up and velocity or direction of the ball. The lane, pins, characters, and balls feature 3D graphics and textures. Gamers can choose to play alone or against the games other players, for quick sessions or full game lengths. After choosing my player and ball color, and selecting my difficulty level, I was ready to flick and play. My first ball wasn t bad, I knocked down nine pins. Then I actually picked up the spare!! Dude. For $5.00, it s completely worth it. It has good sound and control, and excellent graphics. This is truly a game I d enjoy playing often on my iPhone. I can t help it. I love the sounds of a bowling alley. What s up with that?! What other iPhone apps are you in love with? What games can t you stop playing? Dan the Mantern is responsible for a majority of the stories in the rundown today, so don't hesitate to burn him at the stake if you don't like what you hear. Personally, I think today's show is hilarious: Craigslist crime, driving exams and racial stereotypes, video game pirates, and the evolution of the Chinese "impossible" space drive. Once again, it's East meets West on The 404! Big thanks to our buddy Jeff Sparkman for today's show title. We are literally the taint on the massive organ that is CNET.com. Anyway, even though Dan helps us by suggesting the stories for the show, I managed to sneak one by him, and apparently Caroline McCarthy also caught wind. It seems like Craigslist just can't stay out of trouble. This time around, a man used the job listings to post an anonymous ad for construction workers and requested that they show up wearing a blue shirt, yellow vest, safety hat and a blue shirt. The man then proceeded to rob an armored car before stripping his clothing to reveal the exact same uniform, effectively allowing him to disappear into the sea of construction workers. He later reappeared to make his getaway by riding an innertube down the local lake. I love the fact that robbers are getting more creative with their schemes--Jason Bourne over here, did this guy just watch "Ocean's 11" or something? For all that Craigslist has given the internet community (apartments, bikes, jobs, casual "encounters"), I think we can let this one slide. We hope you're thirsty because Jeff is back on the show today and everyone is soaking wet with haterade. He hates on the new Nintendo DSi and the Wii, he hates on the upcoming Robin TV show, he hates on Jack Black, he even hates on his poor, innocent co-hosts. How ironic that the chat room had an unusually large crowd today. Dan the Mantern here. Also on today's show, Wilson gushes about his love for Google. Perhaps he has "employment envy," but Wilson is really into the Goog. With Google's new plan to save the world by eliminating fossil fuels, the search engine goliath has reached a new level of ballsiness. Don't get me wrong, we all love our ubiquitous search box. I mean, what would the world be like without the power to know anything in less than .00001 seconds? But isn't anyone else afraid of an organization that stores mountains of data about people's Internet habits, purchasing habits, emails, personal calendars and, soon, telephone conversations? It's not what they do with the information, it's what they could do with it that makes me paranoid, like telling everyone how many times Justin watched the Mini-me sex tape. Look, I'm not going to cancel gmail or stop using Google, I'm just sounding off. Besides, as long as the search term "The 404" brings you to this blog, I think I can live. It's been way too long since we've had Caroline McCarthy on the show! She makes a very attractive Jeff Bakalar replacement, and it's a trade that we'll take any day of the week. Despite his training as a journalist - and the-right-way-to-spell - he runs I Can Has Cheezburger? Because, laughing at lolcats is a lot more fun than writing about PTA elections. In the early days, many of the earlier images on this site were found around the internet and forums, such as 4chan, fark, fazed, vwforums, gpforums. The practice of captioning (specifically, cats) started many years ago on anonymous forums, most prominently called the *chans. Supposedly, the practice of posting and the actual type of these images was termed “Caturday”. This word has since detached from it’s original context, grown, and evolved into different terms like lolcats, lolrus, loldog and splintered into varying sub-memes and sub-sub-memes which employ different grammatical patterns, different contexts, and sometimes even merges memes. It has since spread through many forums, and online communities such as somethingawful, ebaumsworld. The meme continuies to evolve into many completely tangential and unrelated memes: lolbrarians, lolbees, lolpresidents (my favorite being LOLcode). A new LOL- spinoff is created every week. This is happening throughout the internet by people who are having fun, and being creative, by taking a meme (idea) and applying it in new and creative ways. Ben tells the story in a much better way than the site, or any of us, can. He is a hilarious guy, and a natural with audiences. I m sure you ll agree after watching his presentation.
