Podcast: Interview with Marvin Ammori of Free Press about FCC’s Comcast decision
from Inside Silicon Valley: San Jose Mercury News July 14, 2008
Last week, the Associated Press reported that Kevin Martin, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission said he would recommend that the other four commissioners rule that cable giant Comcast had violated the agency s principles regarding open access to the Internet. While the ruling is not final, the statement marks a major victory for Free Press, a non-profit advocacy group that filed the original complaint against Comcast, the nation s largest cable company. On Monday, I interviewed Marvin Ammori, general counsel for the Free Press. We talked about what happened last week, what happens next, and why we should all care. For background, the original complaint is here. And more background on the history of the fight can be found here. Going forward, Martin needs two more commissioners to sign on to his proposed decision within the next couple of weeks for it to become official. While the FCC is not recommending a fine, Ammori said his group would be satisfied with the ruling that Martin has proposed.

It's the End of the World as We know it and I feel Fine #35
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) July 02, 2008
Naomi Klein's speech at the National Conference for Media reform was not included on the conference website. subMedia contacted Free Press, the organizer or the conference, to ask why Klein's speech could not be found online, and the person explained that Free Press is a non-profit organization and that I should reefer to the disclaimer on their website which reads: "Despite our best efforts, we feel that some of our speakers encroached on electoral space during their remarks at the National Conference for Media Reform. It is not in our interest to disseminate these recordings. We are reviewing all of our video content and will add that which we determine to be free of electoral statements to this page." I don't quite understand how these things work, but whatever. Two sources have told me the reason Free Press did not include the speech was Klein's criticism of Barack Obama. It would be pretty fuckin lame if it were true. But fuck it, I got a hold of a copy of the speech and here it is. subscribe via Miro Player or iTunes support this podcast by purchasing books and DVD's from our store.

Barack Obama Pins Bush Economic Woes On John McCain & It Looks Like A Good Fit
from RetroVision Media June 10, 2008
The highlights are: A. Barack Obama's promises to Israel that he may have a difficult time honoring in the future. B. Barack Obama fires first salvo across John McCain's economic bow while only receiving harmless smoke and mirrors in return. Obama has successfully pinned the Bush administration's economic woes on McCain like a tail on the donkey. From our view, he wears it well. C. Country bracing for higher fuel and food prices as farmers fear modest crops this year. With Ben Bernanke signaling an end to rate cuts to stem inflation, the country is in for a rough ride.

RetroVision Media's Analysis of Obama's Win and Clinton's Refusal To Concede
from RetroVision Media June 04, 2008
Barack Obama, the nominee of the Democratic Party as of last night’s final primary contest, awakens this morning to the nightmare of a shotgun wedding with Hillary Clinton as his running mate. After clearing every hurdle to achieve what no person of color, man or woman has in the history of American politics, he now has to find a way to placate a bunch of self-centered losers from forcible glomming on to his success. Hillary Clinton failed to do the right thing, the stand up thing, and the proper thing by congratulating Barack Obama on winning the needed number of delegates to capture the nomination. Intentionally, she snatched the door open to hijack her way back into the White House by hanging on to Obama’s coattails. Somehow, she has deluded herself and the fringe element within her core support that the Obama camp gives a rat’s ass about what she wants. America is a country that loves a winner and shuns its losers. There is little room for disgruntled second place finishers.

RetroVision Media Covers McClellan's Hot Book That is Heating Up Rove's Ass
from RetroVision Media May 28, 2008
As much as we hate rats and rat bastards, many times it is the only way to get to the truth. This is especially true when the government and the power that runs it is involved. Scott McClellan’s new book "What Happened" leveled the hammer big time on the Bush administration without mercy, leaving Karl Rove’s ass hanging in the wind. With John Conyers, heading up the House Judiciary Committee shoving a subpoena up Karl’s butt to force some conversation, conversation that Karl and the rest of the White House crew has been thumbing their noses at, maybe the tool needed to give Rove the tight screw he has coming. To date Karl has been playing the executive privileged game saying he and his “Boyz” are above it all. But this well timed book release is forcing the all the ugly and largely ignored stories of what was really going on behind the scenes that led this country to war at a time that has to have Karl “The Pillsbury Dough Boy” shitting bricks

RetroVision Media Covers The Cost Conscious Holiday Weekend
from RetroVision Media May 27, 2008
Returning from any three-day weekend generally leaves some of us a little sluggish and lacking that creative spark. Fortunately for me, an anonymous comment left at the blog gave me the spark for today’s podcast. Our last podcast posting covered the possibility of worldwide despair due to global disasters along with food and fuel shortages topped off with domestic and international economic downturns that last beyond our comfort zones and levels of measurable tolerance. We also mentioned that because of said poor economic outlook and global catastrophes many would be lucky to have a backyard to have a backyard Bar BQ in this year. Based on most reports from airline hotels and restaurants many did just that and stayed close to home.

Military Analysts were not fair or balanced
from Where's the Outrage? April 27, 2008
This video is based on last week s NYT article in which they exposed that many of the military analysts were either on the Pentagon s payroll or a defense contractor. Free Press asks us to get involved and pressure Congress to investigate this issue. C&L has more.

RetroVision Media Reviews and Recommends The Ruins and Street Kings
from RetroVision Media April 16, 2008
Okay, we know it’s Black Box theater Wednesday and we should have some local, affordable theater to recommend as per usual, but quit frankly, we did not see anything this week that would rate your attention. We did however get to some good stuff on the silver screen. The Ruins and Street Kings are our recommendations for an evening of kick ass action and scary spine chilling suspense. In Street Kings, Forest Whitaker as captain Jack Wander goes head to head with Keanu Reeves as detective Tom Ludlow, the kick ass detective being used by the captain to do the dirty work while he and the rest of his elite unit is raking in big dough from their own street drug sales. Whitaker is able to operate with immunity since he has the goods on all power figures in the Los Angeles political scene as well as the LAPD. This is a cool cop against cop, police corruption, internal affairs on the hunt for all the bad guys flick. This one is worth an afternoon in the theater just vegging to the action

Issue under Fire: Obama and the Second Amendment
from RetroVision Media April 15, 2008
Today, we thought it necessary and timely to revisit the issue of guns, gun control, the second amendment and how things work in the bigger cities. Our mayor Bloomberg, the NYCP Dept. Commissioner Ray Kelly, the loved ones of Sean Bell, (local man shot 50 times by police) and the officers on trial for the shooting are all trapped in this difficult situation because of the proliferation of weapons on the streets of New York. Stories like this as well as school shooting, Jr. High, High School, and college campuses are regular news items and have been getting worse every year. What Barack Obama is trying to get those in smaller, less densely populated areas of the country to understand is we need a compromise on this issue that all law abiding Americans can live with

Issue Under Fire: The Collaspe of a Nation
from RetroVision Media April 04, 2008
The magic word of the day is Collapse. The economy is collapsing, the healthcare system is collapsing, the public education system is collapsing, the National Guard is collapsing under the weight of the collapsing military, the nation’s infrastructure is collapsing along with the citizenry’s confidence in the elected leadership’s ability to break the fall. It’s not news to report that 81% of those polled feel the country is headed in the wrong direction. What is news, is the 19% that disagrees with the majority. Who, we wonder is that optimistic group that sees the nation’s current course as one to proceed on in a steady as she goes mode? Clearly, these are the corporate heads and their butt sniffing upper managers that are making out like bandits in a lawless and deregulated atmosphere. These must be that shadowy 1% and their well paid flunky crews that have always made big dough while the little guys and gals are forced to just make do. We think that collective 19% is the same

RetroVision Media
from RetroVision Media March 13, 2008
Despite our own headline, we think New Yorkers are being rather rough on former Gov. Spitzer considering he has been known for years as being a real hard-on. Given the dilemma of opting for the do it yourself plan and ending up blind like Lt. Gov. David Paterson or risking his career, marriage, and a lifetime of outstanding accomplishments for some naughty nooky must have been blue-ball busting difficult. But all things being considered, Mr. Spitzer probably should have elected to go with the more cost-effective method of dealing with his sexual addiction as he has clearly demonstrated a lack of price negotiating skills. At nearly five thousand bucks a pop, this randy dandy could have busted the family’s finances in no time. Was he not thinking of the children’s future when he forked over a roll of dough thick enough to choke a horse for a one hour roll in the hey?
