MADtv Season 12: The twelfth season of MADtv aired from September 16, 2006, to May 19, 2007, with 22 episodes. Summary: A few minor cast changes were made during season twelve. The only cast members who did not return were Stephnie Weir (who left midway through season eleven), Frank Caliendo (who chose not to renew his contract), and Daniele Gaither (who was let go by FOX executives). Frank Caeti and Nicole Randall Johnson, featured performers from season eleven, were promoted to repertory status. Lisa Donovan made her first appearance as a featured performer in the season's fourteenth episode. Season twelve featured some format changes. Previous seasons featured a sketch before the opening credits, but this was dropped for season twelve episodes; instead, previews of sketches from that particular episode appear. As in the show's early years, sketches were shorter and were sometimes split into separate parts to prevent them from dragging (such as a three-part filler piece about apropos TV shows saved on the TiVos of Tom Cruise, Tommy Lee, and George W. Bush). After Frank Caliendo's departure, political sketches about George W. Bush stopped appearing as often. Season twelve also featured more TV and movie parodies, celebrity-based sketches, one-off situational comedy sketches, with recurring character sketches comprising the rest. Still, MADtv continued to air vaguely political sketches such as the "Steve Jobs Presents the iRack" sketch, featuring Michael McDonald as the Apple executive unveiling the iRack at a trade show. Test audiences tell him that the "iRack is falling" and to "take things out of the iRack" (thereby riffing on the word as a pun for Iraq). Michael McDonald reprised a character from season eleven, Larry Felmer, an obsessive fan who gets extremely angry when celebrities are mocked. Other returning characters were Crista Flanagan's Luanne Lockheart and Wendy Walker (Three Minute Meals), Nicole Parker's Disney Girl, Nicole Randall Johnson's Ka-Son, Keegan-Michael Key's Coach Hines, and Michael McDonald's Stuart Larkin. New sketches in season twelve included a Korean soap opera spoof called Attitudes and Feelings Both Desirable and Sometimes Secretive, starring Bobby Lee. Attitudes and Feelings, spoken in fluent yet random Korean words and subtitled in comical broken English (the dialogue and subtitles are not related), consists of rather bizarre soap opera clichés about the twisted life of Dr. Poon Ji Sum, his sexual antics, and his enemy, Korean crimelord "Mr. President." Each sketch ended with a cliffhanger. (The sketches were usually shown about five episodes apart.) Lee also played Johnny (Xian Hi) Gan, a Korean millionaire who hosts a rather odd talk show where him and his assistant, Pongo (who seems to be in love with him) interview celebrities. Animated sketches returned to MADtv after being absent for several years. Claymation also appeared for the first time in seven years with the recurring sketch "Celebrity Pets", in which pets of celebrities talk about their daily lives with their celebrity owners. The show also featured some non-sequitur claymation sketches such as "Red Snow" (a Happy Feet-meets-Saving Private Ryan movie trailer), a Valentine's Day cartoon where Cupid murders two would-be lovers with hollow point arrows, "Real Police Video: Immigration", "Cartoon Network Rejects", and a Christmas short where George W. Bush blackmails Santa into killing his enemies. MADtv also developed a popular recurring animation sketch called "Weekly News with Toby", in which first grader Toby (voiced by Frank Caeti) talks about his view on current events. Opening montage: The twelfth season features a new title sequence with shots of the performers as they prepare for the show. The screen divides into three different live-action shots. When the theme music starts, the announcer introduces each cast member alphabetically. After the last cast member is introduced, the whole cast is shown in a live-action shot. The music stops and the title sequence ends with the phrase "You are now watching MADtv." The sequence also features a new announcer. Cee-Jay - The Ravesignal Label: R his parents ran a club in Antwerp, and his mother DJed there. He grew up listening to the synthesizer music of several eras — from Jean-Michel Jarre to Front 242 and the Neon Judgement — but began devoting most of his time to house and techno by the late '80s. Bolland began producing in 1988, when a drummer friend gave him access to the right gear, and his tracks were soon heard on several Belgian pirate radio stations. He then sent demos to several labels, and finally heard back from R&S Records. CJ Bolland's first production for R&S, the Project's "Do That Dance," jump-started his career, and he soon saw releases from his projects Pulse, Space Opera (with the Advent's Cisco Ferreira), Cee-Jay, Ravesignal and Sonic Solution. His 1992 Ravesignal 3 EP (specifically, the track "Horsepower") made Bolland one of the hottest names in the new global dance community. Bolland made his album debut soon after, with The 4th Sign. His 1993-94 schedule also included production work for Mundo Muzique, Dave Angel and Joey Beltram as well as remixing for Orbital, the Prodigy, Sven Väth, Westbam, Tori Amos and Baby Ford, among others. His second album Electronic Highway was released in 1995, after which Bolland signed a mammoth five-album deal with Internal Records. The first fruits of the contract, The Analogue Theatre, were released in late 1996 to critical praise and dance-chart success, thanks to the excitable single "Sugar Is Sweeter." He founded his own label "Mole Records" in 2002. Frank De Wulf Profile: One of the pioneers of the belgian new beat and techno scene. De Wulf started in music around 1986 as a DJ/programmer for several local pirate radio stations in the area of Gent. He was mainly interested in music with a strong rhythmical content: new wave funk, electro, European and American experimental post-punk. Not just contenting himself with lining up tracks and commenting on them as radio makers in those days did, he made his own mixes and created a particular live atmosphere during his programmes. From radio it was just a small step to DJ'ing in clubs, and by doing that Frank became intrigued by the process of making music. Captured by the early spirit of the new beat movement, his desire to gain more creative possibilities made him swap his turntables for a synthesizer and a sampler, and in this modest home studio environment he started to compose his own material and to remix existing tracks. First public proof of his talents as a musician and a producer was the 12-inch "Acid Rock", which instantly became an underground hit and over the years developed into one of the classics of the first European Dance wave. But De Wulf's big breakthrough came with The B-Sides (2) series (on Music Man Records), a stylish cocktail of beats and pieces, peculiar atmospherics and citations from international Dance highlights. Season summary: After Debra Wilson left the show at the end of last season, season nine was the first without any original cast members. Former featured players Ike Barinholtz, Josh Meyers, Ron Pederson, and Paul Vogt were upgraded to repertory status. Among season nine's new cast members was Daniele Gaither, a member of Groundlings who was trained by Michael McDonald before appearing on MADtv. (Gaither had previously appeared in season two as one of the Dolemite girls in a sketch about Bob Dole.) Her celebrity impersonations included Eve, La La, and Tyra Banks. The second new cast member was Nicole Parker, who became known for her impersonations of Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Ellen DeGeneres, Renée Zellweger, and Judy Garland (as the character Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz parodies). MADtv Season 7 The seventh season of MADtv aired from September 22, 2001, to May 18, 2002, with 25 episodes. Season summary: After Nicole Sullivan left at the end of season six, Debra Wilson was the last remaining member of the original cast. Season six featured players Andrew Daly and Stephnie Weir were promoted to repertory players. Also joining the cast were Frank Caliendo, Kathryn Fiore, Jill Michelle Meleán and Bobby Lee (the first Asian-American player on MADtv). Bobby Lee frequently performed an impersonation of Connie Chung in drag. Andrew Daly appeared as Politically Incorrect host Bill Maher, interviewing cast members performing celebrity impersonations. Kathryn Fiore played neurotic teen Kate Williams and sorority sister Taylor Rosenblatt, and impersonated Barbara Pierce Bush. Jill Michelle Meleán performed a dead-on impersonation of Drew Barrymore. Frank Caliendo performed impersonations of Richard Dreyfuss, Al Michaels, Al Pacino, Rod Roddy, Robin Williams, and FOX football commentator John Madden. Will Sasso appeared as *NSYNC member Lance Bass and impersonated Louie Anderson, Robert De Niro, Debra Marshall, Kenny Rogers, Steven Seagal, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Real Mother****ing Talk, a parody of political talk-shows such as Hardball with Chris Matthews and Politically Incorrect, debuted. The skit was hosted by Dollar Bill Montgomery (Aries Spears), who interviewed guests such as rappers (Method Man, Redman) and comedians (Earthquake, Corey Holcumb). Guest Michelle Trachtenberg appeared in a parody of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Alex Borstein's Ms. Swan. Trachtenberg, who actually appears in "Buffy", was nominated for a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Comedy Series for her MADtv stint. Other guests included Todd Bridges, Vivica A. Fox, Frankie Muniz, *NSYNC members Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, wrestlers Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Man Show hosts Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel, and several hip-hop artists (including DMX, Ja Rule, Insane Clown Posse, Master P., Method Man, Redman, and the RZA). Opening montage: The MADtv logo appears on the screen and the theme song, which is performed by the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, begins. A voice announces "It's MADtv!
