Enhance your Mac OS X Desktop with Geektool
from YouTube :: Videos by iobuffa September 02, 2008
In this video, I talk about the popular Mac OS X software, Geektool. It provides embedding of scripts, images, and files on your desktop. It's very similar to Dashboard but uses a lot less resources and is much more "geeky". I've been using Geektool for quite a while since I'm a UNIX guy at heart and love to write scripts. Since Geektool allows you embed output of scripts, I have a weather forecast script, top cpu programs, and top memory programs right on my desktop. Since it is Hurricane season, I have also embedded the latest tracking maps right on my desktop. This gives me a quick view of where these storms are headed without actually navigating to various websites. Geektool is only limited by your imagination and I highly recommend you give it a try if you run Mac OS X. On Windows, you can do similar things with Samurize and on Linux, there's roottail and a bunch of others that I can't think of right now :) Google is your friend! Enjoy! Striped Backgrounds is a free service that allows you to create your own striped backgrounds. Striped Backgrounds is insanely easy and fun to use. Use the Randomize! button to have the site choose colors for you. Or, click on the color picker button, and choose your own. You decide what color your stripes should be, and in what order. When you re happy with what you ve created, just choose your screen resolution, and click the Download button. The picture will open in a new window or tab full-size, and you will then just save it to your computer. Poof! You now have your own customized, striped background. The nice thing is that they also have an iPhone section. Create striped backgrounds for your iPhone with ease. There are a couple of Google ads on there, but they re unobtrusive. They don t bother me at all. This site is easy, free and functional. Be sure to check it out, and then show me your cool new background. The Affluent Desktop Currency Trader. DesktopMaster 2.0. Crystal USB Desktop Speakers look good, probably sound bad
from Engadget August 16, 2008
Filed under: Home Entertainment Not a lot here that you can't already make out for yourself, but we'll give ya the down low, anyway. The Crystal USB Desktop Speakers are powered via USB 2.0 and only pack 1-watt per channel, yet somehow, they're touted as "audiophile" grade. The product description rambles on in embarrassing fashion about just how amazing these things will sound, but seriously, we'd just be happy with the decently cool looks (yes, we're being generous here) and relatively low $39.99 price tag.
