My wife and I went to the New Bohemia Music Arts Festival here in Cedar Rapids. Iowa flooding of 2008

It s been a really hard year for Iowans. Beatings from tornados and floods over the past few months have really taken their toll. In Cedar Rapids, our Freedom Festival, where the majority of us go to watch fireworks and celebrate July 4th every year had to be cancelled this year. We have been given notice here in Cedar Rapids that we have about a day and a half of water left before it will be gone. Without conserving the water we are using and restrict the use to consumption only, it could be sooner. Noticed this morning that our sump pump was expelling an enormous amount of water ever half hour from the basement. Hooked up the hose outside to capture that water to use for flushing the toilet and, after boiling, to wash with. Cedar Rapids Flooding - Iowa - Video Along I-380 MobileDemand provides rugged Tablet PCs for businesses. Our headwuarters is located in Hiawatha, Iowa, basically a suburb of Cedar Rapids. We are closed Thursday and Friday, June 12th and 13th for the safety of our employees. We took this video as we drove through downtown Cedar Rapids on I-380 on 6/13/2008 at 10:00am. First we drove from the North heading South through downtown, turned around at the Wilson Avenue exit and headed north again. We wanted to capture the flood at its height and avoid the actual flooded areas by going through I-380. It's unbelievably extensive - causing evacuations of residential / business / hospitals, severe water rationing, blackouts, and transportation headaches. Downtown is almost completely flooded. Although CR is not a MAJOR metropolitan city, downtown is the backbone of a thriving city with a great quality of life. We're proud to be from Cedar Rapids, and Iowans. We're taking it in stride, and going to be helping each other out, and would appreciate assistance to get ourselves back on our feet.

Major flooding has submerged more than 100 square blocks in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Water rose up way too close to us earlier. It went back down later but now the skies have just opened up again and it s raining hard, hailing on us and a tornado warning. We are just not catching any breaks here in Cedar Rapids at all today.

Woke to a really heavy rain storm this morning. The power went out. That meant the sump pump stopped. Water coming into the basement. With no power in the house, I decided to take a walk out on the golf course to see where all the water was coming from. Other formats available: Quicktime (.mov)

Just a short little grouping of videos today. I had to do some work down in one of the evacuation areas in Cedar Rapids. I took a little tour out to Beverly Park today to look over the new mountain bike trails built by LAMBA (Linn Country Mountain Bike Association).
