For years, he claimed that his work on Inside Edition garnered two Peabodys, until he was outed by nemesis Al Franken as having confused the Polk Awards (won after O Reilly was no longer with Inside Edition) with the more prestigious Peabodys. Obviously, that kind of public mistake has to smart a man with as big an ego as his mouth. So it is with no little irony to see him mention the Peabodys on his Thursday broadcast, talking about Bill Moyers receiving one. Funny enough, while I can think of no one in journalism more deserving and Moyers has been awarded 10 Peabodys over his career Moyers was not on the list of winners this year. So why the slam on the Peabodys? You may have heard about the Peabody Award, the prestigious prize given by the University of Georgia to journalists. Seems every few minutes our pal Bill Moyers wins one of those. And we re very happy for him. So happy, in fact, that we looked into the political leanings of the Peabody board. Interesting. There are ten liberals on it, two conservatives. Sounds like Newsweek magazine. Horace Newcomb, the director of the Peabody deal, and a Democrat himself, says he s not concerned. Nor are we, because we re sure the judging is fair and balanced. Party on, Peabody guys. Indeed. Actually, there are 16 members of the Peabody panel, not twelve, and their respective political affiliations seems less than obvious by the list, nor particularly relevant to their bona fides as members of the Peabody board. But hey, why deal in facts when you can get a nice little librul conspiracy action working. You know why I think Bill O Reilly s miffed at the Peabodys? Because guess who won a Peabody this year, basically for acting like Bill O Reilly?

Keith Olbermann's feud with Rupert Murdoch and his News Corp. media properties reached a bitter new milestone today when the MSNBC Countdown host smacked Murdoch's Post for a forthcoming gossip item that will, he said, allege that fellow MSNBC-er Chris Matthews was jockeying to succeed Tim Russert as host of Meet The Press at a memorial event for Russert yesterday. The item will also reportedly say that Olbermann has threatened to quit if he doesn't get Russert's job himself. Olbermann leapt to sometime-rival Matthews' defense, saying the Hardball host was asked by an acquaintance at the event about succession and immediately shut the conversation down. As for himself, Olbermann denied he had demanded to replace Russert and said he was, in any case, unqualified (though any savvy and honest successor would attach that caveat). The Page Six reporter working on the item, Paula Froelich, was awarded Countdown's "Worst Person In The World" title for the night, which will teach her a very important lesson: Do not call TV people for comment until after their shows have aired. Many viewers were offended and outraged when Fox News referred to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's wife as a baby mama. Via Salon, this evening, Fox ran a segment to remind its viewers why they should hate Michelle Obama. But they apparently weren't satisfied with the usual batch of distortions and lies, so they decided to unload a blatantly racist and sexist slur on the wife of the Democratic nominee. As Michelle Malkin and Fox anchor Megyn Kelley cordially ranted, a graphic was displayed at the bottom of the screen referring to Senator Obama's wife as his Baby Mama. source Since Salon's Alex Koppelman caught Fox News characterizing Michelle Obama as Obama's Baby Mama, there's been an uproar over use of such an offensive term. “A producer on the program exercised poor judgment in using this chyron during the segment,” Fox's Senior Vice President of Programming Bill Shine said in a statement to Politico. In addition to being insulting, the phrase baby mama is also inaccurate. The Urban Dictionary defines baby mama as the mother of your child(ren), whom you did not marry and with whom you are not currently involved. Although Shine doesn't name anyone responsible, the show's producer is Jessica Herzberg. A Fox staffer said that others internally were bothered by describing the potential first lady and very accomplished women — as the senator's baby mama. Unfortunately for the network, this comes just days after Fox's E.D. Hill addressed her use of the phrase terrorist fist jab on-air in reference to the famous Michelle-Barack fist bump (or pound) made just before his celebratory speech in St. Paul. source

In this extended clip, BillO took exception because Scott had the audacity to indict the press over their horrid coverage of the run up to the Iraq war. And poor Bill tries to spin him into the ground over his admissions that the Iraq war was sold to American people using propaganda. (rough transcript) O Reilly: You said they used propaganda and that is a loaded word McClellan: The White House Iraq group, the White House Iraq group was set up, it s a marketing arm for selling the a war. That was a specific purpose that I talked about in the book O Reilly: Because they fervently believed that the guy was a danger and could hand his weapons off. McClellan: No because the President had a bigger driving motivation which was to transform the middle east. O Reilly: You telling me that President Bush didn t believe they had the, McClellan: No, he did too. He believed that too. O Reilly:That s not propaganda then, that s not propaganda. McClellan: It is when you package it all together over sell it and over state it to the American people. That is propaganda. In Bill s mind it s A-OK that the WHIG was formed to set up a one stop shopping mart to shoot war propaganda directly into the veins of the press which would be passed on to fool the American people into thinking we needed to attack Iraq. However, in BillO s mind it was no big thing because Bush felt it justified. Unbelievable. Scotty was unflappable.

Heather included a later portion of the show where O Reilly lambastes the major network anchors for saying that they had all gotten calls from White House officials, unhappy with particular coverage. I love the logic Bill employs: it can t be valid unless Williams, et al., name the officials involved and it can t be that bad, since Bill O Reilly never got a call himself. Hmm I wonder why that is, Bill. Could it be that the White House considered you an ally?

On the surface, O Reilly s charges revolve around GE s history of doing business with Iran. But the attacks grow out of an increasingly bitter feud between O Reilly and the company s high-profile subsidiary, NBC, one that has triggered back-channel discussions involving News Corp. owner Rupert Murdoch, Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes, NBC chief executive Jeff Zucker and General Electric s CEO, Jeffrey Immelt. Ailes called Zucker on his cellphone last summer, clearly agitated over a slam against him by MSNBC host Keith Olbermann. According to sources familiar with the conversation, Ailes warned that if Olbermann didn t stop such attacks against Fox, he would unleash O Reilly against NBC and would use the New York Post as well. Both Fox and the Post are owned by Murdoch, who complained about Olbermann s conduct in separate calls to Zucker and Immelt. On his show last night, Bill O'Reilly addressed the hubub over his old "Do it now!" meltdown, which has resurfaced on the internet. The Fox News host approached the topic with a sense of humor how else could he play this, really, without looking like the same angry guy he was in the dated clip? but also very briefly, and without the actual, unflattering footage. But O'Reilly did slip in an interesting, probably not entirely untrue joke about how he's had annual explosions since he joined Fox. And he offered to sell them. Someone, please, take this man at his word and at least try to buy some previously unseen footage, so we can all laugh some more with Bill about how charming and unharmful his on-camera rages really are.

Today hosted a very meta discussion this morning about Sue Simmons' WNBC f-bomb and Bill O'Reilly's old Inside Edition eruption, and anchpr Kathie Lee Gifford is extremely sympathetic toward both of the old TV hands and their embarassments. She told co-host Hoda Kotb there's always a chance she'll have her own "FUCK IT! DO IT NOW!" breakdown: "We're having fun, because tomorrow it could be you and I." Or maybe she was thinking of a more mild "what the FUCK are you doing" outburst. Given that Stephen Colbert's act on Comedy Central consists mainly of imitating Bill O'Reilly, it was pretty much inevitable that he would mock the Fox News shouting head's recently resurfaced Inside Edition meltdown. Colbert's recreation of the cuss out, set on his own supposed TV show in the 70s, is at least as funny as expected Colbert nails O'Reilly's freakout down to the silent, jacket-throwing temper tantrum at the very end and includes a clever twist involving NBC's Brian Williams. The silver goes to Doug Goodyear, John McCain s pick to run the RNC National Convention until it was revealed that Goodyear s lobbying firm netted several hundred thousand dollars for lobbying on behalf of the military dictatorship of Myanmar, which has been blocking cyclone relief aid from it s own citizens. The gold went to BillO. Mr. Orally went overboard about a Seattle newspaper for refusing to post photos of two men who were seen acting suspiciously on a local ferry, even sending his flying monkey-boy producer to the home of the paper s publisher to pressure him into publishing the photos. As it turns out, the two men turned up at a U.S. embassy a couple of weeks ago and identified themselves as European business consultants who were sight seeing while they had some time off for work. They even turned over copies of the pictures they took that day.

Exploring, perhaps, her inner Bill O'Reilly, WNBC news anchor Sue Simmons turned what should have been a straightforward promo for the evening news into an angry cuss-out of one of her co-workers. And Simmons' cursing made it onto the air, unlike Fox News anchor O'Reilly's recently-publicized meltdown. We've received several emails from viewers who caught the cursing during a break in the season finale for NBC drama Medium, and now there's video, posted after the jump. UPDATE: And Simmons has now apologized for scandalizing the entire city of New York with the f-word.
