This is as close as we ll get to a New York City Marathon special this year on the show. Not bad though. In association with my friend Jerry Cahill, host of the Cystic Fibrosis Podcast, I covered the Team Boomer post marathon fund raiser. The event was held at a very nice Irish Pub called Mr. Dennehy s. The pub is located at 63 Carmine St. near 7th Avenue South. And yes I did interview one actual runner in the marathon. I also talk with Jerry about Team Boomer and mix with some locals who talk about their experiences around town. This episode also includes a promo for an upcoming show by my pal Brother Love. I think I m becoming addicted to soundseeing tours. What can I say? I love getting out amongst the good people of the New York area. This episode has me hanging with my pal Brother Love at Liberty Jam 2006. This was an all day concert event to raise money for and awareness about Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. Liberty State Park is just a stones throw from Lower Manhattan and is very close to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The event featured a fun day of eclectic music including The Smithereens, Los Lobos, Patti Smith, George Clinton and headliners Cheap Trick. Check out a photo set from the day here. And a video will be forthcoming as well. Listen Now Download PodcastNYC-NYM-56.mp3 MP3 File NOMINATE THE NEW YORK MINUTE SHOW IN THE TRAVEL CATEGORY FOR THE 2006 PODCAST AWARDS. Share This Robert J. New York Minute #55
from The New York Minute Show - Audio June 24, 2006
A soundseeing tour of the Hoboken, NJ Waterfront this week on the show. Hoboken, nicknamed the Mile Square City, is the birthplace of Frank Sinatra and sits directly across from Greenwich Village and Chelsea on the Hudson River. The PATH trains provide easy access to Hoboken from Manhattan. Once in Hoboken you can enjoy a park directly on the Hudson River with views of the river from New York Harbor up to the George Washington Bridge. You can follow a path north along the river to the Frank Sinatra Cafe and a skate park at the north end of the path which is about a mile from the train station. I also talk about a couple of options for summer movies outdoors in New York City. On Monday nights in the summer you can enjoy free movies in Bryant Park at Sunset. You can also see indie films on rooftops courtesy of Rooftop Films. CommunityWalk Map - Hoboken Waterfront Soundseeing Tour Listen Now Download PodcastNYC-NYM-55.mp3 MP3 File Share This Robert J. A great soundseeing tour this week. New York based personal chef Mark Tafoya joins me for a walk through the Chelsea Market at 9th Avenue and 15th Street. Lots happening at Chelsea Market. Wine, bread, gelato, great bakeries, fruits and vegetables, plus the Food Network and much more. Why not join us for a fun walk through the market? This one is nearly an hour long but well worth the time invested. Don t forget to check out Mark and his chef friends over at the Culinary Podcast Network. And soon enough I ll get the video from our podcast up here as well. MP3 File Download PodcastNYC-NYM-50.mp3 Tags: NYC, New York City, Travel, Podcast Share This Robert J. It s a soundseeing podcast once again this week as Darren Levy of the Citywide radio show and podcast guides me around the area near New York University in New York City. We re calling it a back to school show. We roam the area south of Washington Square Park talking about student life in the city, discussing neighborhood topics and coveting sandwiches from Peanut Butter and Co. Are you ready for some NFL football? We re soundseeing this week from the New York Jets pre-season opener vs. the Detroit Lions. I bring my wife and daughter along as we catch the action from our seats on the fifty yard line (a very good view!) at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Yes, the New York Jets play in New Jersey and they play in a stadium named after the other New York team. It s a long story, but I give you the background while we watch the game. You re learn a lot about the Jets, how to get tickets, how to get out to the stadium and most importantly, catch all the fun sounds from the game. A big thanks to The Boomer Esiason Foundation for supplying me with tickets to the event. Enjoy! MP3 File Share This Robert J. Safuto - visit The New York Minute Show for more great content.

New York Minute #25

It’s a soundseeing tour of Yankee Stadium this week as I head up to the Bronx to catch the Mets take on the Yankees in the unfriendly confines of Yankee Stadium. Dan Does New York , a die hard Yankees fan makes the trip along with me as do his friends Jada (from Mississippi) and Kristen (from Michigan). This is a rather long show, but I did my best editing because the games are two and a half hours long. You will have to listen in to hear how the game turned out and also to find out what international tourists made the trip and sat behind us at the game. Grab a beer and sit back as I take YOU out to the ballgame. Listen Now Download PodcastNYC-NYM-25.mp3 MP3 File Share This Robert J. Safuto - visit The New York Minute Show for more great content.

It’s another soundseeing tour this week. I’m in downtown Manhattan on a summer day and it’s time for a walk through the meatpacking district. Yes the meatpacking district. It’s an area on the far west side of the island where you’ll experience cobblestone streets and the smell of fresh meat. And due to a major revitalization over the last decade you’ll also experience chic boutiques, international cuisine, hip nightlife and a hotel with a rooftop garden that provides sweeping views of the the Hudson River and the city. Let’s take a walk, shall we?Locations mentioned on the show: Restaurants - Old Homestead Steakhouse, Markt, Meet, Florent, Lotus, The Little Pie Company, Son Cubano, Spice Market, Highline, Pastis, Paradou, Rhone, Nero Restaurant, Hog Pit Barbecue Bars/Clubs - PM Lounge, Hogs and Heifers, Club Cielo Hotels - Hotel Gansevoort Boutiques - Scoop NYC, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Destination, Girl Shop Historic Sites - New York City Highline - abandoned railroad line bordering the west side of the meatpacking district.
