 PES - Sneaux Shoes - Human Skateboard

Sneaux (2007, 7MB, 31 sec.) Sneaux Shoes launched a consumer-generated video campaign with a stop-motion video of a human skateboard. The TV ad features a skateboarder using a kid as a skateboard and performing classic tricks like ollies, grinds and 360s. PES who directed the video made it entirely in-camera (Canon D20) and on location through the use of a stop-motion animation technique known as pixilation. Says PES: This spot is a great example of the breadth of stop-motion. If something exists in the real world, it can be animated. Editing and sound design was done by Sam Welch at Homestead, New York.

Jeffrey has a fascinating conversation with Aaron Stern, Founder, Executive Director and Core Faculty of the Academy For the Love of Learning in Santa Fe. As designer of the core curriculum at the Academy, Aaron is also a composer, performer, educator and former dean of the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. Aaron consults with educational, arts, spiritual and social-change organizations and communities, around the world and is also trained and certified as a transpersonal therapist. A brainchild of a special relationship that Aaron had with the late musical genius Leonard Bernstein, the Academy for the Love of Learning draws on a wide, multidisciplinary spectrum of resources: educational philosophy and practice, the arts, transpersonal studies, contemplative traditions, earth-based wisdom, body-centered practices, psychotherapy, organizational consulting, and the wisdom distilled from personal experience. The scholar in residence at the Academy is American priest and theological exponent of Creation Spirituality Matthew Fox. Creation Spirituality is a movement grounded in the mystical philosophies of medieval visionaries Hildegard of Bingen, Thomas Aquinas, Meister Eckhart and Nicholas of Cusa. Author of twenty-eight books on philosophy, religion, and spirituality, Matthew Fox’s most recent book, The A.W.E. Project: Reinventing Education, Reinventing the Human has led him into an increased engagement with issues impacting the education of children, something very dear to the heart of The Academy and Aaron Sterns vision. In Aaron’s and the Academy’s view, who we are as human beings is indicated by the depth of our openness to life, our engagement with our process of learning, and our self-awareness and capacity to be as fully awake as imaginable with one another. because of this viewpoint, the Academy is strongly experiential and calls forth a high degree of self-reflection, both individual and collective. This ground of deepening self-awareness provides the stability and freedom from which right action can grow. This is an excerpt from the live Demo Night that took place 7/23/08. The topic was creating Greene & Greene style joint for the Gadget Station project. Its a long video, but lots of details were covered and numerous questions were thrown out by the chat room. This was our best turnout yet with 180+ viewers! This isn't exactly as fun as the live experience but its a close second for those who couldn't make it. Enjoy!

Don Pendleton is a skateboarder hailing from Ravenswood, West Virginia. He currently lives and works outside of Dayton, Ohio, doing skateboard graphics, painting and working on various art and publication projects. Somewhat of a recluse, he is constantly recovering from hypochondria and arachnophobia. He was the artist/designer of Alien Workshop for the greater part of a decade and has also worked with Element to produce skateboard graphics.
