From : Revver - american Videos
Author: QIP1 Added: Tue, 26 Aug 2008 16:36:19 -0800 Duration: 56When Junior complains, "Aw, who cares about rubber anyway?" Grandpa, a retired rubber worker, must set him straight! Speaking of Rubber is a phenomenal unintentional comedy, with an absurd level of corny enthusiasm. But while the goofy 1950s style delivery is hilarious, the film is an actually interesting exploration of the history of rubber, its manufacturing, and applications. Touring rubber plants and factories, the multitudinous uses of rubber are indeed a curiosity. Speaking of Rubber is an enjoyable film on many levels.

 From : YouTube :: Videos by gatorrock786
In 1946, while the bandleader of the Golden West Cowboys, King, together with the band's vocalist, Redd Stewart, composed "The Tennessee Waltz". It went on to become a Country Music standard, popularized by Patti Page and by Les Paul and Mary Ford in 1950. Later, along with co-writer Chilton Price, the songwriting team of King and Stewart penned "You Belong to Me." It was the biggest hit of Jo Stafford's career, and was covered by many pop artists, like Dean Martin, and even Bob Dylan. From : Sexy Entertainment
Author: QIP1 Added: Wed, 20 Aug 2008 13:54:59 -0800 Duration: 52This amusingly overoptimistic film, Opportunities Unlimited, paints America's prosperity of the 50's as the pinnacle of society. Most interestingly, the rise o the middle class and the baby boom is thoroughly discussed in the rosiest of references. Statistics, evidence, and platitudes are all employed to make the case that America will continue to spend spend spend - to the salvation of all! Entitlement programs for the poor were not seen as a drain on society but a symbol of America's success. The film uses a mixture of animation (generally for statistics and other abstractions), as well as wonderful shots of mid twentieth century America. Overall, Opportunities Unlimited fascinatingly captures the essence of the post World War II United States.

 From : Revver - american Videos
Author: QIP1 Added: Wed, 20 Aug 2008 13:54:59 -0800 Duration: 52This is a video of a touchstone boastful 1950s lecture on America and what a great nation it is. During the cold war, propaganda of this type was common and this is a superb example. For instance, the professor explains that the three foundations of American success are faith in God, a constitutional government, and capitalism. Dr. Ganus further explains how these three ideals are shown in American values. The film focuses on freedom. American's who have the freedom to work in a profession of their choosing are better for it. Many citizens of other nations are not allowed such a privilege. Freedom to dream allows Americans to reach their full potential and happiness. This film, which borders on xenophobia and jingoism, is the perfect example of mainstream 1950's values that promote an idealized, heterogenous America.

 From : Revver - school Videos
Author: QIP1 Added: Thu, 14 Aug 2008 11:54:23 -0800 Duration: 61Freedom to Learn explores the implications of 1950's communist witch hunts through the story of Mrs. Orin, a high school social studies teacher. When a parent notices that her daughters notes contain information about communism, she confronts Mrs. Orin and eventually takes the issue all the way to the school board. Mrs. Orin must defend herself in front of the angry mob by explaining that she doesnt teach communism, but teaches about communism. She claims that her students must know about communism in order to understand current events and to make informed decisions about their own government. She also notes the irony of her being questioned about what shes teaching in a country that espouses educational freedom. The film's conclusion is a chilling representation of the times - Mrs. Orin may not prevail in her quest for freedom of speech and ideas.

 From : Metacafe - Today's Videos by Metacafe
This is a hilarious promotional film which, while nominally focusing on nutrition, follows the story of Bob, a high school football player who finds that his girlfriend thinks he is boring, his bowling score is no good, and his skills on the field aren’t cutting it anymore. His football coach tells him that he isn’t eating a balanced diet, and Bill gets a crash course in nutrition, 1950’s-style. Since this film was sponsored by the National Dairy Council, the nutrition information is heavily skewed toward dairy products. Bob’s little sister even brings him a bowl of ice cream while he’s studying to help keep his energy up. After the changes in his diet, Bill feels great, gets more sleep, and even his bowling game is better!

 From : Revver - american Videos
Author: QIP1 Added: Sun, 03 Aug 2008 22:53:17 -0800 Duration: 57Fun That Builds Good Health is a frightening instructional video from the 1950's that earnestly introduces strict notions of social and personal conformity in American society. Ostensibly the film is about children playing, and what kind of play will be most healthy for them. But when little Jimmy Baxter doesn't enjoy football, why, his father will just have to keep working on it until he does! This film captures the essence of fifties' homogenized America perfectly. A great historical video.

 From : Dailymotion - most recent videos
Good Sportsmanship teaches young teens how to build relationships with opponents and how fitting into social groups is more important than winning or “getting what you want.” This exemplary 1950’s social guidance film uses sports as a metaphor for life in order to teach social conformity and deference to the needs of the group over those of the individual. Several scenes of kids playing basketball and other daily life situations, such as sibling interaction are used to teach this lesson. The film is full of good sportsmanship stories, as well as defining the rules of good sportsmanship in the context of high school sports. The social life of teens and social groups in high school are also explored. Male bonding activities in 1950's culture weren't always easy to come by, and this film champions the relationships that can be built in sports as ideal for teen athletes. The film is also an excellent look at school history and what life in the 1950's schools was like.Author: QualityInformation Tags: 50's 1950s high school sports toys america fads clothing fifties 50s culture clothes family male bonding social groups Posted: 03 August 2008 Rating: 0.0 Votes: 0
