review: erincaketastic

She documents life...

The good: There is a coorelation between cooking and life-- and she brings them together.
The bad: I wish she made more videos. But I love the ones she has already done.

The review:
...And it doesn't get better than that in my book.

She is definitely working through what matters to her. And like I wrote: I wish she did more.

Making cakes (and other food) for her work, while she puts a little in about other aspects of her life, really affected me in a positive and powerful way. Some of her videos are the most affecting pieces of work I've come across in this happy little world we call "videoblogging".

If you like he ...

review: One Thousand Dreams

The good: I like the diversity of ideas and vids he presents here. He seems very honest.
The bad:

The review:

review: Vlog of a Faux Journalist

I'm serious.

The good: She is not a videoblogger. She is an artist.
The bad: I'm sorry...did you say you can't handle the truth? Then you can't handle The Faux Press.

The review:
Because Jan is serious.

Don't be in the fire if you can't handle the heat. She is a Poet. She is a Philosopher. She is a Sound Mixer for things you not only watch, but you also rent at your Blockbuster.

She wants you to be engaged in Art, because she is. If you have a different reason why you make art, then you better have a voice. If you have a voice, then you better Feel. If you don't Feel, then you better Love.

Create and be Created.

review: Squeeze

Squeeze123 is a collaborative video game with some simple rules

The good: One of the first (*the* first?) collaborative video games, and still going strong. You can join too!
The bad: Nothing bad I can think of.

The review:
Anyone can make a squeeze movie, just follow some simple rules: take a previous video, remix it, and keep it 1 minute, 1 Megabyte. That's all. Watching these all one after the other gets me in that wuzzy state. Effective and legal!

I hope this will set the example for many more collaborative video games to come. One of the things that make it work, I think, is the simplicity. You can do this in half an hour. And you'll have made something that belongs to something else..

review: Geek Entertainment TV

Geeky yet ironic conversations with web2.0 players

The good: Ironic, geeky, web 2.0 conversations with people in web 2.0
The bad: Good sound, but bad image

The review:
"Explain this for my father Boris who still thinks AJAX is a cleaning project." That kind of sums it up.

It's an ironic look at web 2.0. The good thing is: they interview the real players in this space. The bad thing: it's sometimes *too* ironic. I think they should ask some harder, real questions sometimes. Don't be afraid to be serious too, guys.

On the other hand, don't be afraid to tackle the people, instead of just the buzzwords. It's easy to be iro ...

review: PrincessNyree

Dance, girl, dance...

The good: a split second of Princess dancing...something magical was there...
The bad: Only a split second of dancing...princess needs to devote more of princess on the video.

The review:
And sing too. Do what's called lip sync. ..move your mouth to the words of the song. Set up a CD player close to you...turn the volume up high enough so as to also record the song on the video camera. Do the same song with you on video lip syncing at least three times. Take all the video and edit it down to one song, putting each piece together on the computer, and put it together with the song timed just right. Maybe you can get somebody to help, but you can also get the song re-recorded to rea ...

review: No title

the good, the bad, and then there's all of us.

The good: It is absolutely mystical to hear someone tell the absolute truth to all of us.
The bad: If Greg were to do away with any and all profanity, espically the "F" word, but keep the centralized Dangercast theme, I think he'll have a hit.

The review:
An interesting vlog to say the least. It's easy to previsualize a real hit here...maybe even a TV show. It's real important to do away with all the profanity, but the "scumbags" and name calling like(and I am one, too) you so well do, really sets this show apart. If you don't use any profanity, and instead substitute a more creative way of getting the same message across, you will probably have a real hit on your hands. You are appealing to a micro audience, but a lot more folks will tu ...

review: Bottom Union

The true artist helps the world by revealing mystic truths

The good: A sense of wonder about the way life's players interact always comes through in Bottom Union videos.
The bad: n/a

The review:
The Bottom Union for the Transformation of Things is a beautiful ongoing experiment in visual storytelling. After watching a video, you will feel something. Sometimes that something is a glimmer of knowledge gained, sometimes it is a warm feeling of solace or relief. Sometimes you'll chuckle to yourself.

The Bottom Union has a vague aura of utopian or visionary idealism that can't really be touched or conveyed in any other way than the videos it presents.

It's ...

review: Kangacast

Very cute, but make it longer!

The good: Way too cute, Japanese but not anime style cartoons
The bad: They'e too short!

The review:
Very, very cute and interesting cartoons, but they're way too short. Like, 5 seconds only. I feel like they're just a vehihicle to sell those t-shirts sometimes. But really great stuff.

review: Rodrigo A. Sepúlveda Schulz

VC interviews other VC's

The good: Rodrigo is interviewing lots of entrepreneurs, I especially like his interviews on the night of the "deal".
The bad: I'd like to see more of the man himself!

The review:
Rodrigo Schulz is an early-stage VC who videoblogs and interviews a lot of entrepreneurs. I especially like his interviews on the night of closing the deal. The interviews are pretty straightforward, but interesting and personal, and you ca find this nowhere else. Unique stuff.

review: Bullemhead

Voice of the Future

The good: This guy is off the wall, a great musician who makes great experimental video, trying for something new every time.
The bad: Not enough videos coming from his friends/hicks back in the sticks of Indiana.

The review:
Bullemhead really started to come alive with the release of "Voices of the Future". The experimental format, and the ease in the often very funny dialogue, makes it a delight to watch. There is some profanity, which if you can handle it, is hilarious. The only drawback to it, and it counts for most people, is the frequency of posts in few and far between. If you enjoy slapstick, off the wall, out of left field, beer-drinking, guitar playing, humor, then Bullemhead is a must subscri ...

review: Systm (Large Quicktime)

The good: Direct link to Large Xvid Avi Torrent
The bad: No direct videos on their site

This a link to the Large Xvid Avi Torrent for Systm, an innovative video podcast hosted by Kevin Rose. Check it out!

review: ZipZapZop.com

ZipZapZop Rocks

The good: Almost always a bizarre, and intersting live performance, usually done in one take, super entertaining. Very funny.
The bad: Sometimes he get's a little sidetracked and trippy, but it becomes part of his charm. It is mostly a talking head.

The review:
ZipZapZop has become a highlight when most new videos come through, something I always look forward too, because his performance varies so much from episode to episode. His humor is completely off the wall, and wells from what seems to be a techno/hippy vibe. He reads daily from the Tao De Ching, which at times can be boring, but otherwise enlightening. As far as I know, Clark Ov Saturn lives in Brooklyn, teaches grade school kids over the TV, is an actor, musician, or space-truck mogul, as h ...

review: Echoplex Park Video Podcast

Welcome to Schlomo's World

The good: Schlomo makes everyone a star.
The bad: Celebrity is very difficult; be careful what you wish for.

The review:
There's nothing like humor to lighten life's load and Schlomo's got a wonderfully quirky sense of it.

Meet Schlomo's equally funny and quirky family and friends.

See Schlomo not run.

Always a laugh and surprise, I really dig his vlog.

review: Robert Vitello Talking

Worth tracking in case another gem appears

The good: Thoughtful content, cleverly presented. Engaging.
The bad: Not very active. Seems to have a lot to say, but isn't posting much of it.

The review:
Robert Vitello seems to have multiple personalities. I'd like to see more of them. So far, his movies are about himself and his own thoughts, and he makes no apologies for his narcissism. Humorously, when the vlog community was getting huffy and offensive in the summer of 2005 about vloggers being labeled narcisists, Robert had already declared himself one, and seemed both embarassed and proud of it. But even so, Robert is not nurturing his self-gratification. The "Robert Vitello Talking& ...

RSS 101 : Amanda Congdon

The good: Amanda is fresh, funny, full of suprises, smart and in touch with her genre.
The bad: She doesn't understand republicans.

The review:
Thanks to Ms. Congdon I've got two new toys to play with fireANTand mefeedia. I wasn't expecting it, but now, after watching todays vlog. I'm up to speed on RSS and writing this review. I love the animation bits she throws in . My granddaughter favorite is the Tuesday Weld one from friday October 21 05 which she played a snipet from today.
I hope the little blue ball one is done as a full length or give us a link to it.

review: Docmaker on the Go

Respect!

The good: Amazing videos from the Bronx in NYC, focused on the rapping lifestyle
The bad: The editing uses some corny effects sometimes

The review:
Really good videos made on the streets of NYC, the Bronx, talking to people rapping, interviewing. I really like the interviews, the discussions, the streetcam feel.

The videos are well edited, although the effects are sometimes too corny for my taste :)

review: Josh Leo's Vlog

Never Know What You're Going to Get

The good: Very creative, you never know what you're gonna get, but you can bet IT WILL BE GREAT. Some videos will make you laugh out loud!
The bad: I'll leave "the bad" to someone else as I don;t ahve anything to say here.

The review:
Josh is one of those individuals who simply has a nature to do it, it's in his veins.
You never know what your going to see, it can be something musical, or something creative, or he could be explaining how to cut a mango, or simply him walking you around his birthday, or even showing us his trip thorugh Germany.

All videos are well edited and some of them have music.

In general, Josh is one of those persons who have "that magic" on camera, very enjo ...

review: Missing Kitten TV

NYC Meltdown!

The good: Mariah taught me how to love again for the first time.
The bad: I hate that thing she did that one time in band camp. Disgraceful!!

The review:
Mariah and MissingKittenTV is the heart and pulse of the NYC underground! A mix of slice of life and parts of her cable-access show, I'm jealous about how she seems to have some sort of life while I languish in the gutter. Rally good stuff.

review: scratch video

Charlene goes for the limit of visualizations

The good: Always innovative, these videos are sure to rock your sock if you are into art movies.
The bad: Sometimes they are too short, but I guess that can be a good thing too.

The review:
Charlene is a documentary film-maker in New York, and at night she makes movies that she puts online.

Her items on 'Scratch video' are hard for me to explain, you will have to experience them. But I can say this:

Mixing stunning sound with playful explorations of dailylife items like an egg or an envelope, Charlene creates an atmosphere of eerie meditation which at least gives me a new perspective on things around me. I never looked at an egg in that way, at least. ...

review: a verry cool lifeblog

UNREAL

The good: THIS SITE IS WICKED COOL HE MAKES SOME COOL VIDEOS
The bad: I CANT SAY A BAD THING

The review:
WOW

review: scratch video

Soundmaster 2000

The good: The sounds that come out of this woman...are all beautiful.
The bad: I want a full song, or even an entire album. The little bits are enough for now though.

The review:
Charlene makes the most beautiful sounds. Her original compositions are incredible. Her sound design with background noises is always perfect.

I could get more from just listening to her videos than I could get from watching and listening to many others. She fully understands the importance of a quality sound.

Visually, her videos are stunning. Simple and elegant, like an egg.

The best of the best.

review: Michael Verdi

Verdi is a household name amongst vloggers.

The good: Amazingly honest yet very enjoyable. Verdi is a household name amongst vloggers.
The bad: Nothing bad really.

The review:
Michael has been videoblogging forever. His daughter Dylan was called "the youngest videoblogger in the world" and had her 5 minutes of fame in 2005, and his entire family is great.

His entries are typical vlog style: a few minutes long, freeform shooting. Even though he knows all the editing tricks, there isn't much editing (that I can tell). The videos seem very, for a lack of a better word, honest.

I especially like it when he starts ranting about video ...

review: Insane Films

Check it out, but adult only (and then some).

The good: Hilarious queer videos - Richard is one of the real innovators
The bad: Sometimes it gets nasty - adult stuff.

The review:
Madge Weinstein's (Richard) videoblog makes me wonder. Sometimes it is brilliantly funny, sometimes it is just disturning, to the level that I don't actually watch it that much anymore, especially not before breakfast. But brilliant though.

I really like the madge weinstein stuff - Madge cooking on LSD is one of the funniest cooking shows I've ever seen.

The style is homecam - low production vlogging, just the way I like it. I've met Richard a few times and he's a ...
