(Nick is fairly safe for now, but, yes, an IP address and a timestamp is enough to get your threatened with a lawsuit.) The EFF must be good folks: They just sued Barney. Another Nick tells us that the rest stops on Iowa’s highways offer free WiFi. Mobile Core 2 Duo (Merom!) Notebooks ShipSlower Meroms, T5500 powered models, didn’t show much boost over Core Duo notebooks… overall, video and audio encoding showed the biggest performance leaps on high end Mobile Core 2 parts like the T7600. Looking for full reviews? Here’s the Dell Inspiron E1405 that dropped 8 hours of battery life, but didn’t offer much performance oomph over Core Duo models. Higher end Core 2 Duo boxes didn’t offer much battery life… but Dell XPS M1710 is the fastest gaming notebook PCMag has tested. Winbook’s T231 costs a third as much as the M1710, and offered temps of 120 degrees… don’t put your drink near the exhaust port. (At least it’s relatively light at 5.3 pounds, the M1710 pigs out at nearly 9 pounds!) Alienware’s Area-51 m5550 was the fastest on video and audio compression bya few points over other Merom notebooks… Want to look at some benchmarks, along with more architecture details? ExtremeTech’s Loyd Case ran a top of the line T7600 thru the wringer… Free Tools, The Missing Falcon, and 802.11n backwards compatibility: Patrick's favorite free photo editing tool... after Paint, anyhow. BTW 802.11n should be backwards compatible with b, g and a… if there’s ever a final spec. We’ll have to get in an 802.11n card to test this out in pre-n and draft-n.
